Definitely heavy end for GS! Though they are using growls more recently, they tend to be to accent certain parts, rather than the formulaic verse growl / chorus melodic (or vice versa) that I hear a lot elsewhere. For more Hana growls definitely checkout more Doll$boxx. Oh and also the recent live version of I wish I that the band released which also has English subs is well worth watching. For a complete switch up from here have you seen any Tomo-zo led songs yet?
GS is such a amazing group, how they can take chaos and create a beautiful song is incredible. Their live performances are unbelievable. Like you I’m a huge F Chopper Koga fan but I love the whole band. If you’re new to the Japanese music scene I’ll suggest checking out Hanabie-We Love Sweets and Bridear-Brave New World Revisited, and of course all the Gacharic Spin you can find (especially the live performances)
Gachapin are one of the few bands that have 3 main vocalists (Hana, Angie and Oreo) (I omit Tomo-Zo, cause she get's her vocal showcase separately). Unlike other bands though, they arrange their vocals totally flexible, that they even switch within phrases, who is singing (in this song they even trade off single words) and they can pull it off flawlessly live. You picked up, that both Angie and Hana did death-screams, not a lot of people do that. Respect. Can't wait for you to react to their new single Replica (coming out later this week), it's totally different again. They totally embrace "crazy", they always did. Til Angie and Yuri joined a couple of years ago, a lot of people didn't like them, cause it was too "all over the place" for them. But you'll get it once you go backwards in their catalogue. cheers :)
I discovered GS with Mindset a couple of years ago, quickly followed up by I Wish I. I was blown away by both. In retrospect, this is the song which truly shows Angie to be a great, great vocalist. And she's gone from strength to strength since then. To see where she and the rest of GS have reached today, just listen to Replica, their latest release.
The best thing about this song is how they suddenly turn in to Doll$boxx after about 30 seconds - catches everyone out 😂 and then back to Gacharic Spin - they're nothing if not unpredictable !
They have the ability to play anything but they only did ‘that’ once. Most of their music is closer to mindset than i wish I though there is a wide variety… if you want to hear Hana’s old school growl go back to the first doll$boxx album and listen to take my chance. Actually the closest you will get to this kind of sound is the second doll$boxx ep. Hana writes most of the music and if fuki is singing lead as in doll$boxx then you get more of her usual metal style. Btw her current band is unlucky Morpheus they will supply you with all the metal feels you can handle.
Good rule of thumb when it comes to Gacharic Spin: If you think there's something they can't do it's either because: A: You haven't heard it yet. B: They haven't gotten around to it yet. I'll echo homegnome's earlier comment, if you want something completely different from this, then a Tomo-zo song is the way to go. For something else with a bit of heaviness in it, I'd say 「起死回生Forever」 which is freakin' great. Like all their songs really. ..I genuinely can't think of a song of theirs that I don't enjoy some version of.
It seems your feelings match mine when it comes to this band! You will constantly be surprised by what they come up with Hana played drums on this track as Yuri was on maternity leave at the time this album was recorded, she appeared on drums in the MindSet video as her guitar work was more rhythm, but appeared on guitar in this MV as she shares that lead part with Tomo-Zo. The drummer who appears in this MV is their live tour drummer for the time when Yuri was on leave, a guy called LEVIN from the band La-cryma Christi. They recorded their last album and their upcoming one at his studio as well. Have you seen the two different MindSet live videos GS have on their channel, one where Hana is drumming and singing from when Yuri was still off, and one with her on guitar and singing after Yuri returned? I see you have not dived very deep into DOLL$BOXX yet either, Hana's metal screams are featured quite a lot in that band. I urge you to watch (I hope record it for a reaction as well but even if not you should definitely aquaint yourself) this performance by DOLL$BOXX of "Shout Down", "KARAKURI TOWN" and "Sekai wa Kitto Ai wo Shitterunda" th-cam.com/video/EOLZ2gLGwL4/w-d-xo.html If you did not know, Pantera is Hana's favourite band, to the point where at her birthday special show a few weeks ago her, Tomo-zo, Koga and Angie did a Pantera cover band section called "Hanatera" - Hana (Hana Paul) on drums, Tomo-zo (Tomozoge Darrell) on guitar, Angie (Philip Angimo) on vocals, and Koga (Rekoga Brown) on bass. Gacharic Spin also have a classic metal cover band called Metallic Spin that they occasionally "tour with" who act as show openers.

Fun fact: Hana has always had a metal scream. Check out some of the earlier "Doll$Boxx" tracks and she does it all over the place.
Monopoly was a cover project that I spent weeks on. I haven't sampled the rest of their catalogue but I intend on doing just that!
