Hello Lindsey! Firstly, I love your channel. You were one of the very first art you tubers I discovered. You do a great job! Now... that does make compete sense. I thought in the beginning these may have been rejects of some sort. You are right. Orionstar is in no way benefitting from the sale of "Priamacolor". I have heard from a subscriber that now the 82 set is not Prisma. So... who knows. Their 120 set isn't "orionstar" either. It does seem to be a company that is buying cast offs from other brands. I suppose this would be okay for someone who is a casual crafter... but for those who keep "sets" of pencils for coloring and rely on having swatches and replacing with "backup" sets... this wouldn't be the way to go. I found them to be very waxy and hard to blend. I hope prisma was never that bad. :) These honestly reminded me of crazy art pencils. Nice colors but not very blendable. Thanks for stopping by! I admit I was a bit "youtube star struck" to see your comment. :)
I doubt it. I suspect the Chinese factory making fake Prismacolor pencils also makes pencils for no-name sets, and doesn't care what it says on the barrel.

Several years ago i had an issue with some prismacolor technical pens and contacted them. They responded back immediately and replaced the product. I am not saying they should replace these but they should be great to communicate. 😥
There may be an issue here. Prismacolor replaced 6 pencils from my set when I purchased them the last time. BUT they asked to verify my order number. In this case, the order number is linked to ORION....not Prisma
You know Donna this is kind of crazy. I wonder why those Pencils are marked Prismacolors? I use Prismacolors almost every day, and because of the differences in color and several not matching up , I would definitely think they are something else.
This is such a shame as the colour and quality is consistant with high quality Artist grade pencils. There is a real irony here that this company could be honest and make a profit by retailing under their own name. Legitimate, good value pencils can be a success in their own right - Think Guang Hui, Wan Shui, Southsun, Brutfuner also other high quality makes include Master, Feela, Zenacolor, Artaza & Castle Arts. In this day-and-age there is no reason to throw your hard-earned money away on fakes.
Castle Arts is manufactured in the same factory as Creyart and Norberg & Linden, so I'm weary of buying any pencils that look like they have the same outer barrel. Schpirerr Farben, Brutfuner, Deli/SJ StarJoy, Colleen, Master, Feela, Arteza, etc. seem to be the few "low to mid-range" brands that control their manufacturing.

I just received my Orion Star pencils and they say Prismacolor too, even though I'm in Canada. I agree with you that the cores are smaller but they still lay down nicely. I think they only feel different just because it is a thinner core. The colours on several range from slightly different to a lot different from the Prismacolors I already have. I dont have anything to compare them to in person so I was thinking about getting a few openstock from micheals but im kinda scared to lol maybe im better off not knowing though cuz I got them a little over a month ago so I cant even return them 😭...
I got my set of pencils. Same box and black case BUT I got pencils that I’ve heard are the same as Kalour, brutfiner, ccsoud, soundance, but mine are not prismacolor. Consider yourself lucky ! When you did you first review, I bet everyone jumped online and got a set. I would have. It has been established all the cheaper pencils are produced in the same factory in China and shipped to other companies to label and package as their own. Many reviewers are comparing these pencils . Buy the cheapest because they are all the same. Prisma got a lot of flak for Chinese pencils. They have changed factory and gained their reputation back. You may have received some of the left over pencils from the factory. These pencils have a lot of flaws. You can’t call them fake because they were produced for prismacolor but probably discarded when Prisma moved on. Orionstar is a third party pencil seller. They may have accepted the leftover pencils and distribute them in their black case. You are getting a better pencil than the regular orionstar, just keep them as a cheap backup set for your prismacolor set.
Plenty of fake Prismacolors out there. I don't quite see this as Amazon selling "fake Prismacolors" as they weren't sold as real Prismas, but yeah, not real. I bought a pack of markers at the flea market once that looked like Sharpies and had Sharpie trade dress on the markers but turned toward the cardboard in the package that wasn't visible until the package was open. They weren't Sharpies and they weren't good. I'm sure Sanford/Newell just loves being the brand that's worth copying...most of the time. I wasn't expecting the flea markers to be Sharpies, but they could damage the brand for someone whose first Sharpie (or Prismacolor) encounter was a poor fake. With the trouble that it takes to make so many different colors, and even do a pretty good job of choosing them, you'd think they would want only their factory claiming credit. If they sell them and build a reputation, in 5 years they might be the up and coming brand to beat. Look at how well Marco and Arteza are doing right now.
Agreed. No reason to copy if your product is worthy of attention it will get it. There are so many influencers out and about that you will get notice. I am always on the lookout for new brands to take for a test ride. Sometimes I find jewels and sometimes duds, but the journey is always fun.
Well, fakes would not be made by priamacolor. Instead created by someone else and made to look like prismacolor. Prismacolor pencils are SUPER soft and creamy. If you push too hard while coloring they just start to kind of go down like rubbing a stick of butter on paper. I have never experienced any pencil lead that is this soft. (And I have looked) prismacolors are also very pigmented with a high color payout onto your paper. These were neither of those things. They leads were much harder. They reminded me of crazy art pencils the way they laid down. There was not the color payoff expected with a prismacolor either. Also the colors did not match. For example say the mulberry in prisma did not match the mulberry jn this set. The color was not the same at all.
@@ColorWithDonna - Colleen's colored pencils are nearly just as soft. Their lead is based on a Japanese formula, and they have a beautiful lay-down. Unfortunately they're hard to get here in the US. I think the biggest option available is a 72 set on Amazon, but to get their 120 set you'd have to get it through Facebook, Etsy, or eBay. I bought mine on eBay for a steal ($56 for 120 pencils, free shipping).
I just bought 150 prismacolour but my kids want some now so I am Looking for decent cheaper ones that aren't nearly £200 and some that I can practice with before using my prismacolour any views on castle arts?
Most likely they were either the first out of a new process batch or the last out. Similar to mill ends. The developer has the right to mass sell so called defects or seconds off to another company. Orion star should have removed the prisma marking and put their own.
They are still worth the money in my opinion. I am going to keep them separate from my regular prismas and use as an off brand. I think I will put a piece of tape on the orionstar to remind me the colors are different.
Funnily enough I watched this video on the weekend and totally unrelated today I decided to sort out my kids Prismacolors. They were both purchased from Amazon at different times. Both the 132 colour set and one was purchased in May 2016 and the other was purchased a year later in May 2017. I have no idea which set is which and was just making sure each child got a colour of each pencil. I did notice, only because of this video that some of the numbers where printed just “off” from the other one. One pencil was sharpened from the numbered end and not from the pencil end! I decided to pay more attention after that and some of the colours were off...I swatched one set of the same number and the colour looks the same but the barrels look completely different IMO. I’ll post this and the photo on the Coloritaville page on Facebook because I think that is your page?
I hope I didn't sound annoyed...I am a newbie & I did cancel (or tried) just because I'm ok right now with my Artezas. Just thought it would have been cool to get some Prismas. Thanks so much for the follow up!! :)

They could be part of the Prisma Scholar line of colored pencils colors are great but pencils lay down a little lighter and not quite as soft still great but not the soft core we are use to. Not sure trying to buy the Orion star not available on Amazon. Thanks for all your time and effort appreciate it.
A full set if prismas here right now is about 89 to 99 dollars. But the point was that the pencils were marked just like a prisma. I was just curious how they got them.

@@ColorWithDonna okay, thank you 🌸
@@ColorWithDonna - Colleen's colored pencils are nearly just as soft.
Castle art is an amazing pencil. Very soft core. Not as soft as peisma but prismacolor ans castle arts work well together.
hello. i bought castle art pencils during our lockdown. They are a lovely pencil. not as soft as prismacolour but still lovely.
Perhaps these are what Prismacolor 2nds look like?
Thanks for the Video . I wasnt sure if mine where the real ones. I now believe a Little bit more that they are..:
If you ordered these and got real ones thats awesome!
Most likely they were either the first out of a new process batch or the last out. Similar to mill ends. The developer has the right to mass sell so called defects or seconds off to another company. Orion star should have removed the prisma marking and put their own.
True. They colored nothing like prisma but I get how a first or last of a run could be off.
They are still worth the money in my opinion. I am going to keep them separate from my regular prismas and use as an off brand. I think I will put a piece of tape on the orionstar to remind me the colors are different.
I agree. I even ordered a second set because they are softer than my other budget pencils that i have.
@@Lemonade_Stand_ I would swatch them since the barrel doesn't really match the color of the lead.
@@jaimiec2404 eh most coloured pencils you have to do that, even expensive ones.
@@Lemonade_Stand_ true
Have you gotten a response from Prismacolor?
Nope. They never replied to me.
I’m late to the party but so interesting!! Thanks for posting.
Its all good. Its always party time here in Coloritaville! Thanks for commenting and I hope to see you again soon!
Wow! I got the pictures. These were all purchased as prismacolor?
Ughhh...saw the video late last night so ordered 1st thing this morning. Oh, well will stay tuned...lol
I hope I didn't sound annoyed...I am a newbie & I did cancel (or tried) just because I'm ok right now with my Artezas. Just thought it would have been cool to get some Prismas. Thanks so much for the follow up!! :)
Welcome to the channel. I am ALWAYS transparent with my subscribers. I want everyone to know they can TRUST me in my videos. I do not blame you at all for canceling. Mine went back today! :)
If you order from the source, you will get the legit product. Problem solved.
I think some people missed the point. I never intended to get prisma. I ordered orionstar to try them and they were not orionstar but fake prismas. It was a warning to those who are newer and do not know a lot about pencils that these are a set to steer clear of.
They could be part of the Prisma Scholar line of colored pencils colors are great but pencils lay down a little lighter and not quite as soft still great but not the soft core we are use to. Not sure trying to buy the Orion star not available on Amazon. Thanks for all your time and effort appreciate it.
I am pretty positive these are imposters. I sent them back.
🦋 ..... the fact that the Orionstars are $29 bucks ... not $237....
For budget colored pencils I think
A full set if prismas here right now is about 89 to 99 dollars. But the point was that the pencils were marked just like a prisma. I was just curious how they got them.
To a newbie colorist or child these would probably be great.
agreed. But for my Prisma people I had to be totally transparent.
@@ColorWithDonna yes i am glad you did because i ordered them like you thinking extra pencils but swatched half and i dont think they are prismas. I didnt go thru the wax when i swatched 1/2 of them. Won't be keeping them. Dont want them mixed with real ones.
those are fakes.. sorry... the diameter.. is so much smaller and one of the main reasons I like Prismacolor is because of the thick core...
😯😐😶
LOL!
