    35:13 Yes. That’s exactly how I felt the first time I saw this. Shock. Numbed. Horrified. Confused. Like I’d been sucker punched in the solar plexus. Hard to breathe or think. Had to sit and process for several long minutes.

    I love and hate how much Nell and Arthur mirror Olivia and Hugh (Nell's parents), both beautiful couples, so caring of each other, and the way Arthur supports Nell through her sleep paralysis is very reminiscent of how Hugh tried to be there for Olivia during her headaches. All the more tragic is how they share similar fates.

      I haven't watched the show in a while, just snippets from youtube reactions, but could it be she stopped taking new meds cause the Bent neck lady was back? Maybe she thought it was a side effect. The meds were new and she saw her for the first time in a long time, I thought that was the reason

  • @Karaokuma
    @Karaokuma 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

    This scene gets worse and worse the more you pay attention:
    1. It wasn't her mother that killed her. It was the house. Hill House used the specter of her mother to kill her.
    2. The specter of her mother doesn't lay a finger on her. She pushes her over the edge with a literal kiss of death.
    3. The shot of Nell's body hanging above the floor lasts a few seconds too long, so you think the cut to black and credits is coming immediately and THAT is when the episode rears back and punches you in the stomach.
    This is THE most frightening, heartbreaking, and shocking twist in all horror fiction.

    It wasn't actually Nell's mom that killed her, the house did. Her mom was mentally corrupted by the house while she was alive and because of that her spirit is somewhat corrupted as well. Olivia is acting particularly strangely in episode 5. Hazel Hill had a daughter, Jacqueline. That's her cup of stars. I think for Mike Flanagan, cup of stars symbolises death. He's an atheist, and he seems to subscribe to Carl Sagan's notion we're all just stardust, and that when we die, that's what we become, cf. Midnight Mass. So, drinking from a cup of stars means tasting of death. It's also a bit of foreshadowing. The old lady is Hazel Hill, whom Clara Dudley looked-after. Hazel's brother is William Hill, the tall ghost who haunted Luke for his hat. Hazel and William are the children of Jacob Hill. He built Hill House. Nellie was staying at the same hotel the family stayed at after fleeing Hill House. There's a direct link between Nellie taking psychotropic medications and Luke's addiction. If Nellie doesn't take her meds, Luke remains clean. Now that Nellie's dead, we presume Luke has conquered his addictions. There are quite a few recurrent motifs in the series. One is the color _red,_ which can symbolise danger or love. Maybe even dangerous love? There's unknown menace of the Red Room. Ghost Olivia is wearing a red dress. The colour red appears throughout the series. It's important to mark it. Another motif is _time._ There are clocks, watches and the sound of ticking clocks. Also, the timeline of the series is non-linear. That's why the time motif. The House bends/breaks time and space. It can then rearrange time and space as it pleases. It's related to the Maze motif. There's the _fixing_ motif. Hugh and Olivia fix houses; Steven fixes people who've seen ghosts by providing non-supernatural alternate explanations; Shirley fixes bodies and helps grieving families; Theo fixes disturbed children; Luke is trying to fix himself and Nell, along with Hugh, are trying to fix the family. Nell and Hugh are probably the most unselfish members of the family. This may be why they've been able to remain close to one another. They certainly have the tenderest interactions. Recall what happened at 3 after the hour, all the surviving siblings clutched their necks. When Steve told Luke that Nell was dead, Luke made a motion towards his neck. They all supernaturally sensed how Nell died. While the family does suffer from PTSD-like trauma, clearly something supernatural is happening. Another motif is the _come home_ motif. It may be the most concerning of all. Notice how the House seduces poor Nellie by giving her everything she's ever wanted. Dreams/waking-up is another important motif. Now that Luke is clean, he's starting to see things clearly for the first time, and he doesn't wear glasses anymore. 😉Like Olivia says: "We take care of this House, it takes care of us."

      @DavidMacDowellBlue หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jhornacek SPOLERS FOLLOWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      I don't believe Poppy is THE evil in this house, although she is mentally ill as well as vicious. The house itself is malevolent in some real way, slowly devouring the souls trapped within its walls. When it gained access to Olivia's psychic power it began to be able to do more, and still more when Nell stopped taking her meds which made her more vulnerable to the power of the house. Once Nell died in the house, it now had access to still more raw psychic power so it could reach out to Luke, to Shirley, etc. Nell ultimately fought back. Poppy and Olivia were tools of teh House, the former more obviously because she is emotionally unstable to put it mildly. The latter is in a more vulnerable state not least because of her ability to "see" things. With Nell and then Hugh within the house, there are wills matched against teh evil of the house so teh rest of teh family is probably safe.
      I remember reading an idea Mike Flannagan had (although it was not sourced so who knows if this was true?) that the house was in some sense alive but the Hills were such a toxic family the house got a totally distorted idea of what it meant to be alive, to be a family, to have any kind of a relationship with others. Which makes sense to me, and tends to be my own head canon.

How could they make him relapse? If anything they should improve Nell’s mental health after a few weeks (and maybe Luke’s in a snowball effect)
      I think that her treatment makes Nell feel numb and disconnected from her twin, which she hates + possibly induces hallucinations as a side effect, which terrify her. But abruptly stopping this type of treatment is extremely dangerous. It makes her lose her last shreds of sanity and increases her vulnerability.
