  • The good people over at Hercules sent me their "Hercules DJControl Inpulse 300", So I spent the last month learning how to DJ. I start with learning the basic which is mainly mixing tracks together, and once I got comfortable with that, I got to play around with the many effects. I am definitely not a good DJ but I intend to keep practicing because its so much fun!

Like i dont want to sound ignorant but truly this isnt even close to djing at all like its not even remotely close....please keep in mind when working with a controller you can see everything that’s going on including the beats .... that’s not the case with big machines and night club mixers and cdj ....dont to mention vinyl PLEASE NOTE THAT I’m a producer and i’ve been doing djing for about 3 years and i agree that production is 100000 times harder than djing but still to say that djing is eazy please try mixing on cdjs or vinyl .... i loved the video and the comment ...and i just wanted to prove a point that’s all

hey I'm a DJ here that's starting to get into producing. what i've learn from production has helped me greatly with my mixing skills and use of effects, and i believe you will gain some new ideas from dj-ing to your production.
here are some suggestions for you to try out in your mixing:
beatmatching by ear, playing with the eq, long mixes, melodic mixes (mixing in key), phrase mixing. use effects to either clarify the differences of tracks in the mix, or to blur the boundaries between tracks. your skill as a producer and musician will benefit you greatly in the live performance aspect as you'll start incorporating more samples, syncopation and effects to your tracks and mixes!
also, maybe as the salty DJ in me but please dont rely on sync and software track reccomendations to dj,trust your ear and taste, beatmatch by ear and curate your songs!
cheers simon and its nice to finally see an upload 🤙🏻

But I have 8 years of music production experience and very basic DJing experience. I would like to definitely take my DJing skills to the next level to become a better musician and eventually start DJing at local clubs/bars for extra income. I just can't decide if to start off with the impulse 200 or spend the extra $100 on the 300. Would it be worth it for me or no?

As a vinyl deejay I'm going to try not to sound old and senile. I encourage new deejays picking up the hobby, it's kept me broke but sane for the last 20 years. However I must say that with deejay controlled software it takes away a lot of the basics. You mentioned "overwhelming", which I completely understand from a beginner standpoint! With these controllers you have so many buttons that you're not "supposed" to touch as a beginner. I started mixing techno because of it's repetitiveness, making you focus mainly on beatmatching, not looking at a laptop to see if the kicks match up, and just keep two tracks "synced" by LISTENING and without the use of a button. After you learn and get to KNOW YOUR MUSIC and notice everything is just based on a 4/8/16/32/64 bar sequence, it all starts to make sense and on you go. If you're hesitating to pick it up, don't, it's easier than ever to start learning it nowadays.

I use to invest in a bunch of controllers, even bought the mixtrack pro... realized most of the time i was sitting there with my keyboard and mouse. Everything else was collecting dust... I'd use them for about a month & ended up selling most off...

I recommend the ddj 400 as a starter controller or numark mix track pro 3
