    MadTv actually focuses on social issues much more than SNL did.

    • @_Devil
      @_Devil ปีที่แล้ว +9

      MadTV took social issues and said "Man, these were awful, right? Let's hope we don't repeat it again!"
      SNL takes social issues and says "ONLY ONE GROUP OF PEOPLE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AND WE NEED TO PUNSIH THEM!"

    This is one of the best MadTv skits ever because it shows how much the cast supported each others ideas and perspectives. The cast of was not only diverse but allowed to share their diverse experiences and yet also willing to be the butt of the joke. Comedy plus introspection is what it takes to make a good sketch comedy show.

    I wanna break down the hilarity of this before anyone even tries to call this racist.
    MadTV takes on social issued by "laying it bare". This is a type of sense of humor that exaggerates the most aggregious and obvious problems in the service of pointing them out without being expository. In this case, what is being critisized is the fantasy to travelling back in time and how it obscures the darker parts of our history and how it may have affected other groups. Much like calls to go back to "the good old days" obscure how painful those days may have been for many. The white couple's reluctance to challenge this is a criticism of white people who will lazily fall back upon precedent without thinking about the consequences. Mad TV was incredibly progressive.

    My hubby is white. I always think about how we may not be together if we were born in a different time. This skit says a mouthful: Racism is so dumb and some clueless white people (are like this couple) so ignorant thinking certain things just should not upset blacks (and non whites)

    • @PoshMillyT
      @PoshMillyT 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      cimter gnome Wow that's a REAL question! A lot of white people ask this and think this question. Understandable. It's just curiosity. BTW Thank you for your honesty. I am so glad to hear that you are not against people who have different cultural backgrounds finding love with each other. Now, Your comment: "it seems to be ok for any race to slam the whiteman, but not the other way around." Okay so I will give you the long answer. Let me know if I've answered you or not. But first *disclaimer* I am not white, so I do not know if the white man feels slammed or not for sure, -but from all of the comments that I have read here on youtube and from what I have heard in life, there does seem to be a sort of "white guilt" thing happening. And not trying to offend anyone. Honestly I'd love if we could all go and sit and eat skittles and be a lot more pleasant to one another as human beings no matter what color. *Back to your comment: I would first like to say to anyone white reading this who may have felt guilty about slavery: Understandable. The subject is emotional to all America; while you may be feeling guilty...we (black people) may be feeling sad or angry. again, we all are affected and it's understandable to feel emotional from it. That being said, You should not feel guilty about something that you Did Not Do or did not have any part in -period. That was just a seriously messed up part of our America's history. Try not to feel guilty, it sucked period. We all want to move on, but it can be tuff for some to understand each sides emotions"* NOW To answer your question about the whiteman being able to slam others. I personally feel if whites started slamming other races, it would be wrong like the old days...all over again. There is a respect and a line you are not supposed to cross...remember that emotion I was talking about earlier? Yeah nobody likes for their emotions to be played with or taken advantage of. Even though Slavery did not happen to us, we still feel some kind of way about it, so it's just best not to say racial things to people who are still upset by the subject of it and our America's...dark....history. The black community has worked hard with blood, sweat, and tears fighting for our equality so why on earth would we allow the "whiteman" as you put it, slam us again? No. No way...been there done that. Not going to happen. It's not what our community fought and marched for. It's just disrespectful to think it's okay to "slam" someone not white (it's a sensitive subject an not to mention racist). Is it okay to slam whites, no of course not. Our black community fought for equality, but like any people who have been down, they get stronger. Therefore you will sometimes hear white people getting slammed on from time to time. Is it right? No, but some white people do act very ignorant, but I think most are just clueless on how offensive they can be*.... (also a big huge one is *why* can't* *we* *say* *the* *Nword*? Blacks can say it! Well, simply put, it's disrespectful. Here's an Example: You know how you say "ma'am" and "sir" to an elderly person out of respect, well you *don't* say the Nword to a black person -out of respect. The black community have fought hard to be equal and free and not just from slavery and black rights...but from having whites or anybody, ever call us that word again) *So never be mad or pissed when you see someone black or of color trying to stand up for themselves, or change things bc there are always things that need work on in this country*..Black people are a very strong people...We are grateful that things are not as they were, but we have become a strong people because of it, so I doubt we will ever think it's okay for whites or anyone freely "slam" us again..Hope I answered your question?

    • @PoshMillyT
      @PoshMillyT 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      cimter gnome Well good. You are one of the people that gets it, we should not be a country or planet that disrespect one another. Unfortunately, we are human and humans make mistakes and some do and say bad things. Listen man, people are going to do what they want to do! Black OR white. It's done on both sides!!!! I will tell you this..it's probably privilege. We live in a world where people feel they can treat anyone they way they want...*people aren't loving like they are supposed to* and this is exactly what God meant by saying "love they neighbor" It's not just to do it, but it's so that we are peaceful, but instead, the history of the world has shown a whole nother side..HATE. These are the consequences: Some kids get raised into hating or disliking another race or seen something, or read something, and they cycle continues. This is why I believe in God and in heaven. I do believe He created us and gave us a place to live -and then we screwed it up. People are people. God gave us a choice. I choose to love my neighbor. Yes, any and every man: gay, straight, murderer, white Chinese, grey, yellow, even rapist (even though they suck!) I love everybody. we all make dumb mistakes and we still have to live together so we need to not hold hate in our hearts and *start loving more...again we all have a choice*. Not everyone thinks before they speak :)

      cimter gnome Yes, I feel you. I understand it looks and is sometimes that way. In Asia it is Indians and Pakistanis, but America happens to be White and Blacks mostly. We had an ongoing issue between the two races. *It's mostly just emotional ignorance now*. I too wished the hate and confusion would stop, but we must remember that *humans are humans and when we are hurt, we do not always act accordingly*

      Diet sodas are not good for your health, they do not help you lose weight and carry potential health risks.Studies have found that both diet and regular soda intake could be linked to an increased risk of stroke. Plus, diet soda has been tied to a higher risk of metabolic syndrome, which is a group of conditions that can increase your risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. One study has shown that this risk is mainly caused by a large consumption of sodium which can cause an increase in heart rate and blood pressure which can then in turn cause blood clots in the brain. All sodas are essentially bad for you. There might be small differences in the amount of sugar, calories, or caffeine between regular & diet sodas, but if you're trying to be healthy, cutting out soda altogether is the way to go.

    This skit is so true to life. It's a reflection of the reality of White Privilege, paired with Desensitization of other people's Realities which leads to White Denial as well as the fact and reality that if you were a Black person living in the good old USA back in those times you had it ROUGH. Even though slavery was ""done"", the laws that governed and supported it were still VERY MUCH IN EFFECT. They were maintained and upheld by White America to ensure that Black people ""always knew their place"".
    Some people act as though when slavery was outlawed that the abuse of Black people just randomly & magically ended with it too. The slave mentality still VERY MUCH existed within the people of America. White Supremacy was at its peak and Black inferiority was at its peak, because even though as a Black, you were no longer a slave, you could be sure you were treated like one and was made to feel like one.
    Black people were STILL denied jobs, denied housing and land (this is why most Blacks own nothing today.....nothing could be generationally passed down from past relatives because those relatives were denied these privileges...it had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with not working hard enough, Systematic Racism existed and still exists till this day in an evolved form). Blacks were still being lynched, tarred and feathered, black babies still used as alligator bait, falsely accused for doing wrong and then either unfairly jailed, or beaten to death by the ""victims"" family members, Blacks were arrested and jailed for long sentences for very petty crimes like stealing a box of cigarettes....we're talking YEARS behind bars here for petty crimes that could be solved with a much simpler and more fitting punishment (very much like today). And when Blacks were offered a job, they had to perm their hair with lye, that burnt their scalps, so that their natural, beautiful afro-textured hair would be chemically broken down and turn into something similar to the White person's hair texture. Blacks had it ROUGH. This is IRREFUTABLE!
    Blacks could not dare use public amenities that the Whites could, and certain places a Black person would never dare step foot to travel or they will be shot on site for ""trespassing"" and so many other atrocities that Blacks were forced to endure. Let's face it, White America was REALLY NASTY towards Blacks.
    It's funny when people exclaim that they wish to go back to the ""good old days""....if you were a White Man or a White Woman or a White Child, then SURE, those days were PERFECT LIVING for people who looked just like you, but if your were Black........there were no ""good old days"" back then. The reality Blacks faced in the U.S.A was so COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to the Reality Whites were living in back then.

      Black people definitely faced a lot of unfair and brutal treatment all throughout American history. They just see gang violence and quote crime statistics, but they don't recognize the history that contributed to to these problems.
      But I cannot help but feel that, at this time, one of the biggest problems holding black people back is the victimhood mentality of the progressive left.
      It is self-defeating, creates incompetent people and dysfunctional communities. It's gotten to the point where they actually have to reinforce the idea of race, and racial discrimination in order to uphold the narrative of their ideology. They go out of their way to ignore a lot of the brutality that poor whites have experienced, because it is uncomfortable to acknowledge that it existed, and that it exists.
      It's my hope that people will finally discard this debunked pseudoscience of race, recognize eachother's intrinsic humanity and vulnerabilities, and start building a society that works good.
