@@BlindCoversit's not really mars volta anymore. A few too many deaths of their members and their most critical member john theodore left the band in 2006.
@@BlindCoversas horrendous as it was, somehow that’s the review that convinced me to check out the band seriously back then. And then it instantly became one of my top favorite albums of all time in spite of the fact that I’m not even a prog or hard rock enjoyer at all to this day (this band got pretty random bunch of huge fans tbh lol)
Honestly I feel like that was half the fun of Pitchfork, you'd end up listening to music that got an extreme review one way or another. The albums they drag through the mud are as special to me as their 9.5's
Big Volta fan, here. We've all heard the song plenty, and if you haven't, you can go listen to it without anyone talking over it as much as you want. I actually appreciated hearing their off the cuff responses to The Widow, especially the comment about its "atmosphere" and that it has "fight" in response to the seemingly dark and somber lyrics on just a page itself. Good and brief. I like a blunt Brit, and these two just cut straight past the chaff. Can't wait to see more! Might I recommend a few Cardiacs songs as a potential choice? Baby Heart Dirt Baby Clinks R.E.S. RIp Tim Smith 🖤
its a good idea, don't think I've ever seen this type of content. I just dont think I can keep myself outta the equation and keep myself from being attacked by what I interpret them being cocky and thinking they're superior in some way in comparison to TMV lol
You shouldn't have. This is the mars volta's worst song in their first three albums (honestly they have a few gems in their next albums but unless you are a hardcore prog fan it is not worth listening to). You should have been allowed to cover a more adventurous song. This was a radio friendly song they had to do for their second album. You should have been given the song Eriatarka to cover. It is their best 'normal' song in the pop format. Most of their class songs are the ones which take you on a trip for 15/20 minutes. Unfortunately, two of their band members died, one from a heroin overdose, John frusciante is not interested in playing it seems, and their best member got kicked out in 2006. I love tame impala, jamiroquay, pink floyd, shpongle, the voidz, but the mars volta are the most creative band I have listened to. Anyone can like TMV, they are more addictive than drugs if you get them, but an assault on the ears if not.
this is an interesting idea, but a lone guy/gal sitting at home listening and doing a reaction can do a better job. The talk you had shouldn't happen during the actual song, at least not so much. You clearly have the production value but the actual video just gives me indifference vibes.
Echoing this - I’m kinda bummed that they were doing commentary talking out loud on the first listen. IMO it would be a better format to first listen in silence, perhaps writing down notes, but only seeing facial expressions. Then once they have actually listened to the song all the way through, they speak. When they are talking over the track, it’s so off the cuff, seems they are talking more than hearing the song all the way through, so it feels disingenuous.
You gathered two snobs. Let them think they were better than the original.. Thats a cool premise. But you ruined it by talking over the real song.. wtf
Dude's grown a bit of a beard to show that time has passed.
Man said he prefers his version over John Frusciante shredding on the guitar. Lmao.
I was lucky enough to see mars volta play with system of a down back in the day and all i can say is that man can fucking dance.
Oh maaaaan, there’s a show coming up in SF this summer that’s System of a Down, The Mars Volta, Deftones and Viagra Boys and that lineup is CALLING ME

Yeah I saw them on that tour too, will never forget it.
This channel is criminally underrated.
We're so back baby!
I would LOVE to see a version where they get the lyrics and the melody but no other direction. I think it would line up more like an actual cover
“I like ours better” I can’t tell if these two are serious.
oh I think they are. And I mean they should right, imagine not thinking you're making good music.
I just don't agree with them but hey...
I think they are being sarcastic. The song is practically perfect, and for them to think they can do better is the part that is funny.
I love that I couldnt tell if this was serious until the Pitchfork line lol.
And Im relieved
Also I was actually completely wrong!! Somehow Pitchfork only gave Frances the Mute a 2.0 🤯

@@bigwengz914what a great summary 💯 truth all around. And Eriatarka has always been my favorite
What the hell is this channel omg???
Just a reminder that pitchfork gave this album a 2/10. Blasphemous
I was SCANDALIZED when I looked that up while editing this. absolutely bananas

You people talk to much during the song.
I’m pretty sure I DON’T like yours betta.
This is a joke right?
