He was born in this place and has lived here for 40 years. He has witnessed the city transform from a small farming village into a sprawling metropolis. Whether it is a ghost town or an economic bubble, he deeply loves this place and is even willing to spend his time showing you the best parts of his city for free, hoping you can share in his pride. This Chinese fellow is truly admirable, even though he is just a humble taxi driver.

If only Americans could feel the same way. That despite our troubles and worries, we are a free and happy people. If we had that same kind of pride in our culture, the whole country would be greater. We don't even live under a communist regime. We have every reason to be proud. And yet, we are so privileged we complain about the little things. Americans love to complain about our first-world problems, as if everything we have means nothing, and as though millions of people didn't die to make our comfort possible.

Do you know why there is no tipping culture in China? Because in China, no matter what occupation, are equal, they pay labor, receive equal remuneration, do not need extra tips, because tips are the so-called aristocracy to the servant, and there is no such culture in China.
Therefore, taxi driver is not a humble profession

So stoked you got to check out China! I'm Mexican-American and spent a year teaching out there. I can't go more than a few months without going back ever since. The people are so friendly and welcoming and the infrastructure makes the USA feel like it's in the dark age xD. It's a shame the people of China get lumped with their government in the West..
Also, as you saw, I don't think the first taxi driver who went into the store for change was trying to scam you. China is an almost cash-less society. Almost all day to day transactions are done digitally, so many people don't readily have cash available. It's quite remarkable really.
Some do consider the first guy a type of scammer though, depending on your perspective. You're essentially paying a premium for not having to wait in the long official taxi queue. But it is considerably more expensive. I've learned this the hard way lol, but you did negotiate it down decently. They can get pretty expensive if you accept their initial offers.
Also, the population of random ass cities still boggles my mind too xD. And McDonalds are all over China, even at the peaks of some famous hikes. Many hiking places in China have plazas at the top.
Makes me so happy to see how much you enjoyed your time and how amazed you were man! Reminds me of what I love so much about being in China. I'll be heading back there soon and you've got me wanting to fast track my visit to Inner Mongolia hahaha.

I live in an American city of roughly the same population, and seeing so many high-rise residential buildings makes me understand why people call this a ghost town. In definition, I'd say the same because of just how large it is. But your driver? He showed you the true heart of Ordos.

Usually when China carries out some advanced construction, Western media like to call it a ghost town. After a few years, you will find that there are more and more people in the ghost town (of course there are also very few failed examples). This taxi driver wants to show you the beautiful scenery of his hometown, because you know how Western media usually describe China. He is proud of his hometown and hopes that you can show the real China to the world.

It's because the LYING BRAIN-DEAD western "media" *doesn't have the ability to comprehend that CHINA IS STILL URBANIZING.*
The LYING BRAIN-DEAD western "media" *only know about housing as some sort of commodity like in the west where people by houses AS INVESTMENTS BESIDES JUST TO LIVE IN.*
*China's leadership realized by the mid/late 1990s that there was a mass migration of farmers/rural people into the cities for work in factories and so forth and realized China MUST start building dwelllings OTHERWISE CHINA'S CITIES WOULD END UP LOOKING LIKE THE SHANTYTOWN/SLUMS THAT ARE FILLED IN CITIES IN INDIA AND BANGLADESH AND PAKISTAN.*
*China's urban population is close to 1 BILLION presently and about 200 HUNDRED MILLION Chinese are STILL expected to move to China's cities in the next couple decades......... THAT IS WHY CHINA'S LEADERSHIP PUSHED FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF CITIES LIKE ORDOS......*

      感觉听当地人的描述一部分的原因应该是炒房闹的,房子都卖出去了但都是投资房,没人住空置率太高了。房价又上去了想搬进新城的人找不到合适的房子可能就放弃了

I'm not a China hater, but the Chinese stock market is known (by the people of China) to be unstable and not a reliable place to invest money, for various reasons. This leads Chinese people to see real estate as the only safe investment option, which can then lead to over construction and real estate speculation.

Is there something wrong with my eyes? Why is the sky so stunningly beautiful? Yet, through the Western lens, China is invariably portrayed under a veil of gloom, as though it were a battlefield that has endured the relentless release of gas bombs for three days and nights.

I do understand the driver's motivation, this is how Chinese people in small inland cities are, always excited to see outsiders and eager to tell you that his hometown is not bad compared to the big city. He's happy that you're praising his hometown, which is something money can't bring.

You have brought such joy in my life, as i watch you travel the world. And you've also changed my attitude about China as well. It is a shame our media and political environment have such a negative effect on us all. I really LOVE CHINA now and I never thought i would ever feel this way. What a huge and beautiful country. Thank you for making these videos, as I feel I'm right there along with you, in your travels. I am unable to travel like I used to, so this really ENTHRALLS me to watch this. And what is most hilarious, are your remarks and funny background clips you add to it all. You make me laugh so darn hard...just what I need right now. Oh, and the friendliness of the Chinese is mind blowing. What lovely people they are...Stay safe and have fun!

Because the media is controlled by politics, trying to make ordinary people believe that they are the best, but in fact the outside world is better than the United States, this is the danger of capitalist politics.
