The fact that they gave Peppy an entire level to himself to demonstrate his skill as a veteran is SO good. Makes sense, given he’s had more experience than even Falco, and he’s supposed to be the flying ace of the team.
If the bad guys knew anything about Star Fox, their reaction would be something like this: "One ship? That's it? Oh please - gunners, blow him outta the...wait...wait.....what's he doing? Are those...Barrel Rolls? He knows how to do BARREL ROLLS?! Oh s*** - abort! ABORT! BEFORE IT'S TOO LA-" *dies explosively*
What I love most about this level is Narratively speaking, Peppy is showing his experience to the next generation. He solos a fleet ship by himself before fox could get back to help. And the one thing I love the most is Fox didn’t try to stop Peppy, he knew Peppy’s skill. He refers to peppy as a “Seasoned Pro” and the glue that holds the team together. This level really showcases everything I love about the Starfox characters.
I suppose Peppy could be the closest thing Fox had to a father figure. I can imagine the stories Peppy would've told Fox about the old Star Fox team and elaborating on his friendship with James. Fox, with this mission, got a glimpse at how Peppy used to rock & roll with James.
My headcanon: This wasn't planned, Peppy's VA just walked in one day frantically shouting BARREL ROLL over and over, so the director decided to record it.
Well if you think about it the full team took down an entire Space Armada. So one ship could at least take down a Salvadora. Also the Salvadora in Star Fox 2 was taken down multiple times.
@@autumn_basil All the other Salvadoras (or Cannon Betrayers as they're called in SF2) were destroyed at the core. Peppy didn't even need to infiltrate this one, he took it down from the outside with just his Arwing. Man's powerful.
And people try to say that Lylat would stand a chance against top tier sci fi factions like the UNSC, Covenant, Galactic Republic/Galactic Empire, Sith Empire, or Imperium of Man.
Falco: Hey Peppy what are you having for lunch? Peppy: BARREL ROLLS!!! Falco: neat. You wouldn't mind if I have some of your barrel rolls? Peppy: Do A Barrel Roll!!!!!!
It's a Cannon Betrayer from Star Fox 2. And yes, it does draw inspiration from a Star Destroyer, but it was designed before the Star Destroyer that's most similar in design (the Venator-class) was ever even conceptualized.
Fox: "You really *didn't* need my help out there, didn't you?" Peppy: "I still got some fight left in me-" Fox: "So why are you always asking for help any other time we're fighting?" FBI: He's catching on, withdraw informant!
Director: Now I want you to go in there and say barrel roll differently a few times ok? PeppysVA: Why’s That? For the joke? Director: You’ll see. Then this happens
i kind of wish you could play as other star fox members in similar situations, maybe a slippy gyro stage, or an arwing stage with falco transition from mach speed to proper fighting or something
i got the reference. it's a short level with nothing really interesting about it besides peppy yelling barrel roll. idk, I was more like, that's neat, I guess
The Lazy Eyebrow Reviewer I am losing my marbles not because he says barrel roll, but because destroying the guns destroyed the ship WAT (I look way too much into the logic behind games, if you couldn't tell already)
I don't know why people are losing marbles over Star Fox Zero. Star Fox is back and people hate it. Is Star Fox really going to be that series where "All the games that aren't Star Fox 64 suck"? The only game that I think deserves any legitimate criticism is Command. All the other games are good.
I find it hilariously awkward that he's constantly shouting "Barrel Roll" every time he's doing an Aileron Roll. Barrel Roll is a completely different maneuver.
Content like this was wonderful, the simple fact is the system it was on crippled it. The Star Fox series games have, historically, been used more as Tech Demos for the new Hardware's Big Gimmick than anything. Star Fox Zero served as a big ol' demo for the Wii U Gamepad, and the motion controls, to the point where both were a central part of how the game controlled. There straight up wasn't an option for no motion controls. And that *drastically* reduced the game's accessibility, as well as the appeal to people who just want a good Star Fox game with no extra frills or gimmicks.
To be fair all those cannons getting blown up, causes severe hull damage, as well as internal damage. Eventually this could do enough damage to the whole ship, resulting in the main reactor going critical. This came to mind since those cannons, use allot of energy to be armed, and ready to fire. If those cannons get taken out, as fast as peppy took them out, it could overload the ships reactor, as well as compromise the structural integrity of the ship.
We all knew Nintendo acknowledging the Barrel Roll meme was inevitable. Also, does the commander (who interestingly has the Forever Train engineer's design) of the Salvadora remind anyone else of Admiral Piett from Star Wars?
The fact that they gave Peppy an entire level to himself to demonstrate his skill as a veteran is SO good. Makes sense, given he’s had more experience than even Falco, and he’s supposed to be the flying ace of the team.
Assault and Zero shows us that Peppy is someone you shouldn't underestimate
BARREL ROLL!!!!
They even acknowledged the meme! 😂

Seems like something TerminalMontage would do.
@Lumakid 100 very true.
Or probably like this: Wait...What’s that weird shape? Why does it look like a AR-Wing- Wait.. ITS STARFOX! ABORT-
As soon as I heard the "DO A BARREL ROLL!" in the reveal trailer, I knew that they'd use this meme at one point.
They did not disappoint.
Peppy: BARREL ROLL, BARREL ROLL, BARREL ROLL, BARREL ROLL
._.
Js
Yes
James: Oh, Peppy. I’m really proud of you. 🥹
BARREL ROLL.
This is exactly why Peppy is a good example of why some people shouldn't retire.
he's a good example that even old dogs still have teeth
Never underestimate an old man in a profession where men die young.
My life is complete every time peppy barrel rolls he says "Barrel Roll!"
Cbaha Gaming
And yet he still took about Ten levels in BADASS
That would drive me nuts...
Cbaha They know what we want.
Now if only we could get Rick back.
I freaking love that he say barrel roll every time xD It's like this mission is made just for the meme
+-Project Xfire- That's probably because it was. :P Nintendo's openly acknowledged the meme by using it in trailers for the game as well.
It never pays to underestimate BARREL ROLL!
if peppy said it tho everyone: my life is completely finish

Gratuitous Lurking
Well, yeah. It was one of the ORIGINAL memes, of course it'll be one of the first they reference.
Gratuitous Lurking They know da memes!!
"BARREL ROLL!!!"
You're killing me with this awesomeness.
[muffled barrel roll in the distance]
My headcanon: This wasn't planned, Peppy's VA just walked in one day frantically shouting BARREL ROLL over and over, so the director decided to record it.
That would be an awesome headcanon!
You know your army sucks if a fleet of ships led by a *SUPERDREADNOUGHT* is destroyed by a single fighter pilot.
Not to mention that said fighter pilot is ready for retirement.
Well if you think about it the full team took down an entire Space Armada. So one ship could at least take down a Salvadora. Also the Salvadora in Star Fox 2 was taken down multiple times.

1 Word BARRELROLL!
technically that's two words
Its not a barrel roll either.
Falco: Hey Peppy what are you having for lunch?

Falco: neat. You wouldn't mind if I have some of your barrel rolls?
Peppy: Do A Barrel Roll!!!!!!
The memes, Jack.
topazfox Your memes end here.
DNA of the soul.
I can't even stop laughing every time Peppy says, "Barrel Roll!"
WTF is an Imperial Star Destroyer doing in Star Fox?
I think Nintendo predicted the scene from Star Wars the Last Jedi.
Honestly, it looks a lot like the Battleship from the hard route of the original Star Fox.
It's a Cannon Betrayer from Star Fox 2. And yes, it does draw inspiration from a Star Destroyer, but it was designed before the Star Destroyer that's most similar in design (the Venator-class) was ever even conceptualized.
VestedUTuber Actually it looks more like a Harrower-class Sith Dreadnought than a Venator.
VestedUTuber th-cam.com/video/BwF9mgkHZiY/w-d-xo.html
I like to imagine peppy just screaming barrel roll constantly.
Rip Rick...you will be missed
Even though this was technically the voice work of Jaz Adams, yeah RIP to Rick.
Fox: "You really *didn't* need my help out there, didn't you?"
Peppy: "I still got some fight left in me-"
Fox: "So why are you always asking for help any other time we're fighting?"
FBI: He's catching on, withdraw informant!
Idk why, but I find the fact that he says "barrel roll" after doing one really adorable.
Someone should tell Peppy he’s doing the wrong kind of roll, a Ailleron roll, but then again, who really wants to break it to him.
Peppy is officially a Pokemon now.
Even though "Barrel Roll" isn't his name.
Director: Now I want you to go in there and say barrel roll differently a few times ok?
PeppysVA: Why’s That? For the joke?
Director: You’ll see.
Then this happens
Godspeed Rick May ;m; I miss him
wow, this game is amazing.
nintendo has been doing some really good games lately.
like kirby planet robot too.
I really love Star Fox Zero for this, you get to play as Peppy Hare!
I had no idea. Imagine how stupid i looked cracking up at my phone on the staff bus, each time peppy did a BARREL ROLL
the first time i played this and played as peppy,i felt so honored
"Sir, this ship lacks point defense weapons."
"Why are those like... important?"
rrrrrrrrrready the Main cannons
MLG Player destroy that little pest!
Barrel Roll!!!
Oh Peppy...eat your heart out.
"Barrel roll!" :D
Who would Win?
Fox Falcon and slippy or
ONE BARREL ROLL BOI
Finally get to play as the legend. R.I.P. Rick May.
This level automatically makes Zero the best game in the entire series, awkward controls be damned
The Controls are good
The Birth Place Of The Barrel Roll Meme Was From Star Fox 64, During The 1st Mission...
Star fox 64 i still love that game
4:55
Fun fact, thats the ONLY time in starfox series where there are 2 arwings with laser upgrade at the same time in the main game.
Good point
True. I wonder if we’ll see Falco or Slippy using the Twin Lasers or even the Hyper Lasers?
One super destroyer versus one memetic bunny. Certain victory.
"BARREL ROLL!"
I just find it cute the way he says barrel roll. :)
When you're Peppy and can't go 10 seconds without doing a Barrel Roll. >___
I'm convinced they bombard you with so many lasers at once to make you Barrel Roll at least once so you can hear the Easter Egg
Peppy: barrel roll!
Me: *instant like*
If Peppy and Iroh met in a bar...
*when a "one man army" meets another*
About time “Barrel Roll!” became a meme.
Alarion Roll!
You get to play with Peppy instead of Fox on this level.
much better than TLJ Dreadnought battle
Grizzly Anything is better than that farce.
The 2 legendary words in the videogames
This level should have been called "David and Goliath"
Tidbit: Peppy is not doing an actual barrel roll. HE IS LIVING A LIE!!
i kind of wish you could play as other star fox members in similar situations, maybe a slippy gyro stage, or an arwing stage with falco transition from mach speed to proper fighting or something
peppy was always my favourite starfox character
Peppy: BARREL RO- Some dude working for Andross: IT'S AN ALIERON ROLL!!!
3:00 what the hell are you waiting for??!!! Do a barrel roll!!!
i had fun with this level, but I still don't get why everyone is losing their marbles over it

So does that mean that every single mission, Fox has to hear Peppy yell "BARREL ROLL" at random times? Geez, I feel for the guy
After Titania, I thought Zero couldn't fan service anymore...then this happened xD
Peppy... Just.... Barrel Roll! Barrel Roll! Do a Barrel Barrel Roll! Do a Barrel Barrel Roll! Do a Barrel Roll!
I find it hilariously awkward that he's constantly shouting "Barrel Roll" every time he's doing an Aileron Roll. Barrel Roll is a completely different maneuver.
Is it instant Game Over if Peppy died when he failed to destroy the enemy ship in Salvadora in Star Gox Zero?
Peppy: *single-handedly destroys a dreadnought
Eh, mission complete, no biggie
omg he says barrel roll, EVERY. TIME. YOU. DO. IT!!!
Peppys never hit so many targets 😂😂
THAT'S SO COOL!!!!
Take a shot every time someone in the comments makes a Barrel Roll joke, congrats, you just emptied out the whole liquor store
BARREL ROLL!
Yay Peppy gets his time in the spotlight!
Barrel Roll!
Unless you build your shit like *Spirit of Motherwill* from Armored Core 4A, destroying the guns won't destroy the ship.
I'll try spinning, that's a good trick.
Whos here to pay respects to Rick May?
The funny part of this is every time you do a barrel roll in this level Peppy says “Barrel roll!”
