Looks like that was one of the last airings of the 60’s era ABC SUNDAY NIGHT MOVIE opener before they switched to the 70-74 opener (that was SUPER RARE until the good folks at OVS uncovered it!)
5:17 - Farrah Fawcett ad for United Airlines. 5:30 - portions of "House on Greenapple Road" begin, which was the ABC Sunday Night Movie repeat of Sept. 6, 1970. That was also the pilot for the subsequent "Dan August" series. Christopher George played Dan August in the pilot movie, while Burt Reynolds played August in the series. 11:02 - Scenes to next week trailer for the Bonanza episode "The Night Virginia City Died." 49:56 - CBS promo for "The Tim Conway Comedy Hour" which premiered the night of Sunday, Sept. 20, 1970.
3:04 When I was a small kid, "The FBI" was in its final couple of seasons. It has been told to me that for the final season (1973-74 if I'm not mistaken), the Saul Bass-designed Warner "W" logo was used at the end of the credits, but we never really watched that show in our household at the time and I've never seen an episode on YT or elsewhere that has it.
@micmac99 not sure it was used on the final season of The FBI i know for a fact that it was used at the end of The Streets of San Francisco in late 1972
40:54 Looks like September 20, 1970 (Bengals won, first regular season game as an AFC team, first regular season game in Riverfront Stadium). Entire tape seems to be from around that date judging from cigarette commercials, ads for 1971 cars, and network promos for fall 1970 season. Always cool to see actual broadcasts from almost 50 years ago!
11:03 "The Night Virginia City Died," which kicked off "Bonanza"'s 12th season-its first to be taped at Warner Bros. Studios. Since they obviously couldn't bring the Paramount set with them, surely they made this as an excuse… ;)
27:31 Teri Garr. She shows up in a ton of commercials. 28:51 Michael Bell on the voice-over for Datsun. 43:49 Bob Landers, one of the all-time great voice-over talents. 51:26 Charlie Jones was an excellent football announcer. 54:31 The iconic voice of Curt Gowdy. 55:34 Lester Rawlins, another legendary voice-over artist. 13:57 We must hear from Mason Adams on every compilation! ;) 14:32 Ken Nordine does his thing for Levi's. 18:59 The voice of Len Gochman.
Given that the NFL games on this tape were Cowboys at Eagles, Raiders at Bengals and Chiefs at Vikings, I'd guess this would have been opening week of the 1970 NFL season, on Sunday, Sep. 20, the night before ABC premiered "Monday Night Football" (Jets at Browns), because of the cigarette ads that were still on TV.
There is also a PSA for the American Lung Association, which was then the National Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association in 1970,with the spinning Cross of Lorraine whizzing across the screen and the bongo like drum sound playing in the background.
I'll just throw in - The California 500 inaugural race was September 6, 1970. Also all cigarette ads on TV were banned after January 2, 1971 and there's a LOT of those ads in here!
KABC-TV featured a number of anchors who would anchor in smaller markers. Clayton Vaughn, who anchored on KABC-TV in 1970, would later anchor on KOTV in Tulsa for a long run.
Hard to believe that it was 50 years ago when all these jewels from Primetime 1970 all made their debut back in the days of real and free TV, way before the cable and digital industry went and took away all of that!on The CBS Network in Fall 1970, you had the debut of "THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW" that ran until 1977-then, there was "THE STOREFRONT LAWYERS" from executive producer Leonard Freeman ("HAWAII FIVE-O") which was later changed to "MEN AT LAW" during its mid season run, and there was "THE INTERNS", based the Columbia Pictures movies from the 1960with a cast headed by Broderick Crawford and future "MASH" co-star, Mike Ferrell. and ABC started Fall 1970 with "THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY", "MATT LINCOLN" starring former "BEN CASEY" actor Vince Edwards, the debut of Paramount TV's "THE ODD COUPLE", and other short-lived wonders like "THE IMMORTAL" starring Christopher George ("THE RAT PATROL") the "Highlander" of his day, plus "THE SILENT FORCE" and the short-lived "BAREFOOT IN THE PARK". then on NBC, you saw the debut of "FOUR IN ONE", which later became "THE NBC MYSTERY MOVIE" in the coming years- "NIGHT GALLERY" became a weekly NBC series after the NBC World Premiere TV pilot that aired in 1969, and the former star of Quinn Martin's "THE INVADERS", Roy Thinnes was "THE PSYCHIATRIST" from Universal Television (decades before they became a Comcast-owned property) but Fall 1970 was also a great place for Saturday Morning entertainment, as CBS led the way with "JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS" from Hanna-Barbera Productions, based on the Archie Comic Book series from Radio Comics, while Archie and the gang returned for another CBS season with "ARCHIE'S FUNHOUSE", while "THE HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS" debuted in their animated Hanna-Barbera cartoon series that was also produced in association with CBS. then there was "SABRINA AND THE GROOVY GOOLIES", the Filmation-produced series which "Sabrina The Teen Age Witch" starred in, after her debut on CBS's "THE ARCHIE COMEDY HOUR in Fall 1969, this time, with "The Groovy Goolies", who made their series debut in this hour long cartoon series- but you also had a new format that was introduced in CBS"s Saturday Morning lineup-the first of its kind, called "IN THE KNOW" that was hosted by the animated characters from "JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS" for the 1970-71 season. it was later changed to "IN THE NEWS" in Fall 1971- all, part of TV history, 50 years ago!!
That Dodge Demon commercial (52:59) stars Joe Higgins in his best known role as the Southern sheriff. That series of commercials inspired a country novelty hit that year - "The Sheriff of Boone County" by Kenny Price, and later on he and Higgins ended up together as cast members on Hee Haw.
2:22- closing credit of "KRAFT MUSIC HALL PRESENTS 'THE DES O'CONNOR SHOW'", followed by a brief promo for the first "KRAFT MUSIC HALL" offering of its final season (in two weeks) {Ed Herlihy, announcer}. "For a copy of the recipes seen on tonight's show, send a postcard to 'KRAFT TV RECIPES, Box 1718, Chicago, Illinois 60690'."
I was an 11 yo growing up in L.A. that year and remember this stuff like last week. We also had KTLA Channel 5, KHJ 9, KTTV 11 and KCOP 13 plus a bunch of UHF channels. PBS was KCET 28 but that's the only one I remember. Cable, while available in New York, was not yet in the West. I think Orange County got it in '80. My favorite shows were Green Acres, Batman, Hawaii 5-0, Hogans Heroes, Laugh-In, Johnny Carson, Munsters, Beverly Hillbillies, Bewitched, Mission Impossible, Outer Limits, Streets of San Francisco, Mannix and I Dream of Jeannie.
Wow, was Liz Taylor really that desperate at that point in her career that she had to take on a TV role alongside Lucille Ball? That might've been interesting, having those two acting heavyweights behind the scenes.
That little kid at 40:03 - "...Hey Mister, we're going on an airplane!" Well kid, you're at an airport, I sincerely hope you and your folks aren't going on a boat!
I don't know what "illicit substances" were used when the ad agency came up with that Levi's jeans ad, but it must have been stronger than the kind used by the creative minds behind the "TASTE ME!!" cigarette ads. 🥴
I've seen a lot of cigarette ads on TH-cam, but I hadn't seen that Doral ad here until now. It used to air on TV all the time back in the day. Now after watching TH-cam for 14 years here are two different Doral ads in the same video!
I think it is Kyle Rote doing the color with Gowdy. That's definitely Jones on the Raider game, but I didn't recognize the color voice. Boy, sure would like to see more than brief snippets of those games.
It's still America. There were people who cringed at the innovations and changes in 1970 as some are cringing now. Just the cycle of life; I'm just grateful to be living and in sound health.
Thank you! I remember seeing these oromos & shows! Brings back so many wonderful memories. ☮️💟
That Levi's ad and the pollution PSA were really good.
Looks like that was one of the last airings of the 60’s era ABC SUNDAY NIGHT MOVIE opener before they switched to the 70-74 opener (that was SUPER RARE until the good folks at OVS uncovered it!)

Love the Saul Bass-designed abstract Warner "W" logo though

What a shocker! Detroit Lions leading the Green Bay Packers! 😲
The promo for "The Young Rebels" was probably one of the first voiceovers provided by Ernie Anderson for ABC.
I know he did a promo for the 1968 ABC show JOURNEY TO THE UNKNOWN
19:16 "Cigarettes are like women: the best ones are thin and rich." Neither that ad nor that message would ever fly today!
Thats a good pne.
1:19- this title card appeared after the closing credits of virtually every "MAYBERRY R.F.D." episode on CBS.
I always like how commercials showing new TV models pretend that somehow you can appreciate how great they are, while watching your OLD set 😂😂😂
11:03 "The Night Virginia City Died," which kicked off "Bonanza"'s 12th season-its first to be taped at Warner Bros. Studios. Since they obviously couldn't bring the Paramount set with them, surely they made this as an excuse… ;)

Eve Plumb!
House on Greenapple Road was the basis for Dan August, with Christopher George as August.
Was that Jan?

The Philadelphia Eagles' last season in Franklin Field before moving to Veterans Stadium.
That was a super Bowl IV rematch! MIN vs KC! A lost gem.
Really cool to see glimpses of those broadcasts.
7:50 Eve Plumb
Scarier than anything that Jan Brady could imagine.
Excellent catch!
I'll just throw in - The California 500 inaugural race was September 6, 1970. Also all cigarette ads on TV were banned after January 2, 1971 and there's a LOT of those ads in here!
R.I.P. To all of the deceased actors and actresses in this video.
KABC-TV featured a number of anchors who would anchor in smaller markers. Clayton Vaughn, who anchored on KABC-TV in 1970, would later anchor on KOTV in Tulsa for a long run.

Senta Berger for Beautyrest! That's one I haven't seen before..and man, Big Tobacco sure dominated the commercials back in the day.
Since they had already decided to end cigarette advertising on New Years Day 1971, they were getting in as many as as possible.
The '7 in sections' ID around 29:47 was also used by the likes of WABC-7 New York, WXYZ-7 Detroit and WLS-7 Chicago.
14:34 A VERY trippy ad for Levi's
That's Lee Lawson in the Bic ad near the end of the video. I hear Harold Gould and (I think) Roger Davis doing some voiceovers.
Lots of cigarette commercials roughly four months before the ban.
40:43- ".....you can't take the 'country' out of Salem."
I was an 11 yo growing up in L.A. that year and remember this stuff like last week. We also had KTLA Channel 5, KHJ 9, KTTV 11 and KCOP 13 plus a bunch of UHF channels. Is there a part 2 to this tape? More MIN/KC football please. Its a rematch of SB IV, the very next game those two played!
0:30 Hahaha, I chuckled a little bit at that commercial.
The ABC Movies of the Week - the Netflix of the '70's. Some were really creepy and scary as I recall.
KILLDOZER, A Cold Night's Death & When Michael Calls come to mind.
Wow, was Liz Taylor really that desperate at that point in her career that she had to take on a TV role alongside Lucille Ball? That might've been interesting, having those two acting heavyweights behind the scenes.
Stunt casting...
11:04 Preview of the premiere of the 12th season of Bonanza "The Night Virginia City Died" which would air the following Sunday 9/13/70 on NBC.
"Cigarettes are like women, thin and rich". Wow. Also, is that a young Teri Garr in the L&M commercial?
That little kid at 40:03 - "...Hey Mister, we're going on an airplane!" Well kid, you're at an airport, I sincerely hope you and your folks aren't going on a boat!
Back when NBC was a solid #2 to CBS.
I'll only buy that Plymouth at 41:45 if the girl comes with it.
The cigarette ads are just all-around odd.
A blonde Suzanne Pleshette and a brunette Teri Garr.
Not being able to see all of the old school football games is killing me,networks should have done a better of saving those old games.
Something tells me Rick might have more games but NFL can be strict about these games posted to TH-cam
The NFL doesn't want their games rebroadcast in any way they don't approve.
1:00 "Headmaster": Andy Griffith's failed attempt to get out of Mayberry and the the 60s and into the modern era 70s.
Headmaster didn't last the season and was retitled "The New Andy Griffith Show."
28:43 Odd Couple promo
20:58 Is that Jeffrey Tambor in the Ultra Brite ad?
Sounds like Curt Gowdy/Al deRogatis doing the Chiefs/Vikings and maybe Charlie Jones did the Raiders/Bengals?
I think it is Kyle Rote doing the color with Gowdy. That's definitely Jones on the Raider game, but I didn't recognize the color voice. Boy, sure would like to see more than brief snippets of those games.
I think the person with Charlie Jones is either Jim Simpson or Al Derogatis
it George Ratterman with Jones doing the Raiders-Bengals game,Ray Scott and Summerall doing the Cowboys-Eagels game
Or 1970?
Like this ad. 19:30.
The cornyclean air commercial
5:25
Love this. When America was still America.
It's still America. There were people who cringed at the innovations and changes in 1970 as some are cringing now. Just the cycle of life; I'm just grateful to be living and in sound health.
my America is 1977-1985 .
41:21 a few month later she hit a man car and her grandmom get blame for it .
19:00 Sooo sexist!!!
