The artwork in that Williams' Lectric Shave commercial was by longtime Mad magazine artist Jack Davis, whose artwork ended up being among the most viewed in the world, in magazines like Playboy, TV Guide, Sports Illustrated and Rolling Stone, among others, as well as on album covers (Johnny Cash's 1966 album Everybody Loves a Nut, among others), and, as you can see here, TV commercials.

That Uncle Remus character portrayal 37:30 would totally not fly today; especially since no one can show that movie anymore.

"THE NEW CBS TUESDAY NIGHT MOVIES" featured a 90 minute format in the 1973-'74 season. In addition to various original TV movies, they also occasionally presented episodes [six each] of "SHAFT" (Richard Roundtree} and "HAWKINS" {James Stewart}.

Re the "Energy Crisis": Back then we just accepted what we heard from the oil companies and didn't question it. But the signs were all around us that the problem was largely created by their greedy CEOs and boards of directors who were funneling off oil for storage in other friendly areas like the Bahamas. "Destination unknown," indeed...Sure, the OPEC nations raising prices and limiting oil supply was real and not a hoax, but the major oil companies like BP, Gulf, Shell, Sun Oil (Sunoco), Humble (Esso/Enco, later Exxon), Standard-Chevron-Amoco and Texaco were culpable for the long lines and short supply at the pump.

Former NYC Mayor John Lindsay was among the last of his breed: a liberal Republican. It seems so ridiculous today, but back in the old days they actually existed. Lindsay was no unicorn; you also had Nelson Rockefeller, among others. As the report says, Lindsay saw the writing on the wall and left the GOP in 1971 because there was no longer any room for a liberal among them; when Rockefeller reentered private life after his stint as Ford's VP in January 1977, there were no longer any liberals in the GOP, and that may have been the "trigger mechanism," if you will, for what we have today.

There is one on here from my actual birthday (12/24/1969), the home VTR machines were only recently introduced. Just learned that Sony, Ampex and RCA came out with BW video recorders as early as 1965 specifically for the home market. They were relatively expensive for the time, around $700, and the average person simply did not have these. Color TV sets back then cost on average $300-500 which was not cheap in those days for the average household. (A Chevy Nova cost about $2,500 and you could still get a candy bar for a nickel and a loaf of bread for a quarter.) I would be utterly flabbergasted if a video aircheck from 1966 or 67, recorded on a home machine, showed up on TH-cam.
