  • Today Josh and Annie share our mindset on prepping, the reasons you need to start stocking up today, and how to get started stocking up without it being so intimidating. Hyperinflation and rising costs, compounded with shortages coming from current events, means it's essential that you have a plan for how to care for your family. Stocking the pantry for our family of 8 makes our grocery hauls look daunting every time, but you can start small, just buying a few extra items to put away every time you're at the store.

I started dreaming about God telling Joseph to prepare for 7 years of famine. It took me a few to get the message, but God kept at it until I heard Him. And He told me to test Him on providing, because we couldn't afford to. I started tithing faithfully, and prepping at the same time. There are months that I have absolutely NO CLUE how God did it, but He has provided abundantly! And I was planning on a years supply, but I keep hearing 2 years, so I'm finally listening. Pray, and trust. God will provide for His children!!!

During the war the government was telling families to grow a garden and have backyard chickens to “do their part” on the home front. This same mentality should be going on today too.

That's what I tell everybody. Some Christians don't feel the need to which is fine I guess.. yes God can provide! but he is also giving u all the warning signs to prepare for yourself and your family. We don't know how much we will have to go through before the Lord takes his ppl. Better safe than sorry 🤷‍♀️

@@olanizimmerman remembering Noah and all those who ignored him and made fun of him. So many other examples as well. I suppose folks think every is going to manna falling from heaven. Sometimes just doing what is right and normal is manna from heaven.
I'm reminded of a man in a flood. He prayed for God to help him. It started to rain and water was rising. A fire dept came to his rescue. He said he was waiting on God. The water got much higher he retreated to the second floor. A man in a boat came for him. He called out he was waiting on God. Finally the water was so high he was on the roof. Once more a helicopter came to rescue him and once again he cried out he was waiting on God.
The moral to the story is God answered his prayer 3 times but he ignored the obvious for the miraculous. Faith is not the absence of wisdom and is not the absence of doing.

At age 53, I planted my first seed a couple months ago. I spend a couple hours a day learning skills like gardening, baking, preserving, etc. channels like yours have been a life saver. It’s just time to do this now. Never had an intuitive yearning like this, best comparison would be “nesting” when you’re pregnant. I am single but am food preserving for as many people as possible. There will be many others like me that never had more than 2 days food in house. I spent $40 a day eating out, living in the city. Those days are over.

I am the oldest of 8 children in my family. I was born in 1955 and we grew up in the 60’s. My mom had 8 children in 10 years. My father is a baker. We didn’t have much money so my dad did most of the shopping since we only had one car. My parents had a large pantry and always kept it well stocked with canned fruits ,vegetables and potatoes ,evaporated milk, instant potatoes etc. We lived in suburban Long Island , New York. So we didn’t grow anything but grass, shrubs and flowers. But my parents kind of taught me to always have extras in the pantry and to buy things in larger quantities when things were on sale, which was an absolute necessity when we were growing up. Times were tough.
I have been slowly stocking up on canned fruits, vegetables and meats, flour, water, juices, evaporated milk, dry milk, baking powder, rice, broth, soups, paper products, plastic wrap and bags, soaps, toothpaste, medications etc. I have seen the problems on the news with trucking, possible severe supply shortages, issues that could be related to the war in Ukraine and our government telling us that we will experience a cyber attack at some point. I have seen the weekly food and product prices going up from .50 to $2.00 at a time. I have seen empty shelves in Walmart and my local supermarket, no pasta, no water, no cream cheese, no mozzarella cheese, no yogurt. Low supplies of milk, canned goods, butter and others. I started slowly stocking up about 2 -3 months ago when I noticed these things .. I think it is wise to be prepared. I have 4 grown children. I live in Florida now for almost 30 years, and my two boys live nearby and one of my daughter is moving here in two months from CA with her family. So I am trying to prep for them too! I am going to start freezing some more things, but living in Florida and having experienced many hurricanes on the east coastal area, I know what it is like to be out of power for 2 weeks in 90 degree weather. You live out of coolers with ice. We also have a generator, which we purchase gas for ahead of time, but how can you be sure it will be available if there is a crises. We have a charcoal grill, a propane gas grill, battery run fans and I recently bought battery run lamps that are great. I usually depended on flashlights and small battery tea lights. I just purchased a set of battery candles also and some previously mentioned items in case the power grid ever goes down. I used to make homemade honey whole wheat bread all the time in the 70’s and 80’s using fresh yeast after taking a bread baking class. I plan to try it again soon, hopefully I still remember how! I would like to purchase some dried beans and am interested to learn to cook recipes with them. I also have seen several videos on how to grow potatoes in 20 gallon containers and would like to try carrots also and anything else possible. We are landscapers here in Florida. But haven’t really tried a food garden. We just grow herbs. I don’t know if this is possible now with hot weather coming by May . But I would like to know what I can grow here. I have only tried tomatoes in the spring and the plants didn’t last once the hot weather hit. We also have lots of critters: raccoons, moles, squirrels (that eat EVERYTHING including my hibiscus flowers) and dig in my potted plants. I agree with you that it is common sense to be prepared. Glad to have found your channel. 😊💕

I do find it odd that so many people think that having our homes stocked well is odd and hoarding. As you said, our grandparents and great grandparents stocked and it was totally normal and excepted. They would have been deemed crazy if they didn't! We have stepped up our prepping for the past two years, got out of debt, had a whole house backup generator installed, growing vegetables, and saving, saving, saving!

Good day Louise from Neuerburg Germany. We too have been prepping for about 2 years or so now. Here too flour, pasta, oil you can forget about getting it now. I am not sure about Belgium but the new problem here is no canned tomatoes or tomato paste of any kind. Here too the prices are absolutely ridiculous. I almost fainted at the cost of 1 kg of mixed ground meat €9.18. We have expanded our garden as much as possible this year too. I plan on canning (pressure canning too) everything I can get out of my little garden. I pray for everyone out there that they wake up and realize what is happening. Very hard times are coming. Please take care of you and Keep prepping! Don't wait! Get whatever you can get or afford to care for yourselves and your loved ones. Liebe Gruß aus Der Eifel Jacqueline 😊

Love you guys...My doomsday UNprepared event was a California earthquake, 6.9. What I had in my small food pantry was thrown into the middle of the kitchen. Broken bottles of oil, vinegar, catsup, and the like was 6" deep on the kitchen floor with every piece of glass I owned. To say I learned the hard way, was quite a learning experience.

I like to prep my pantry for anything that could happen. I grew up in a large family. My mom used to have us kids help with canning from our garden. She will buy extra food and can goods to place in hers pantry closet. When she see sales on meats, she buy it and place it hers deep freezer. My mom grew up during war time when food was ration. There were foods that you could not get because it was stock pile for our soldiers to provide for them. I just looks at it as a blessing to learn how to prep because you don't know what the future will have for us. Besides that I can give to my family when in need. My mother always said that you never know what tomorrow will bring. Just be prepared for the future. I remember as a child that the state that I lived in have a very bad snow storm. This storm shutdown majority of the state for over a week and you have to walk everywhere. The closest supermarket was about 3miles away from home. This maybe one of the reasons why my mom did what she did for her family.

Yes! My favorite medical supplier is Refuge Medical, their profits go to getting kids out of child trafficking and into specialized rehab homes. Plus their prices are amazing and all made in the US and support many families. Their wound care bucket and Stop the bleed kit are the best deals but the individual first aid kit (ifak) are there most popular product.
Also Jace Medical is a great way to get emergency antibiotics ahead of time, which is something the preparedness community has needed for a long time!

We don’t have animals but do keep bees, grow a garden and hunt. Thank you for your video and this subject. I hope people who don’t live like this, start now. I have been watching your channel for just a few months and want to thank you for referencing our Lord and Savior! I enjoy watching your channel and the back-to-basics mentality that you share. I grew up with my parents growing most all of the veggies on the small lot we lived on. Mom canned or froze to preserve the garden food for the winter. Dad also got pigs a few times and we had backyard chickens sometimes as well.
The Lord impressed me with such a sense of urgency in the fall of 2019 to start canning food that I bought on sale as we travel most every weekend for ministry and are never home to tend a garden. In August 2020 my husband lost his job. He still doesn't have a steady income but the Lord has provided!

There is wisdom our elders have been through, I love chatting with my grandma 102 yrs old & been through the depression. Hubby & I started stocking our pantry during 2020 it wasn't easy with all the limits. We felt an urgency to get ahead of inflation & do what we can especially with my celiacs & needing gluten free. I made a few pantry videos to help gluten free folks. Great conversation 👌

I am born and raised in NYC-the belly of the beast...MANHATTAN:) lol, I agree with you since the whole lock downs started-I realized immediately after going to the supermarket right across the street from me, the shelves were EMPTY, then I went to Wholefoods the size of a city block...EMPTY SHELVES , only junk fund was left in both of these supermarkets! I decided at that moment this will never happen to me again. I bought organic seeds and some planters to start greens in my 5 window sills. I also started prepping with extra EVERYTHING...flashlights, batteries, plastic bags, canned and packaged foods. Then I started making my own survival totes of foods, which cost a fraction of what these companies are selling them for. Each tote holds 3 months worth of food for 2 people comfortably. It was well worth it! I relocated to the country of upstate NY and with a small group of like-minded people, we started our own food bulk purchase group. I bake my own bread now from scratch! I partnered up with another person to start an organic garden in the community garden in the village. So I can harvest, can and jar for the winter. Things I've never done before, and I love it...I feel secure knowing in case of serious emergency, I'm okay, at least a little ahead of most people who either have no clue or are in deep denial of prepping. thanks for your confirmation:)

Growing up in a family of 8 with both parents living through the Great Depression, we always had a pantry stocked with several months or more food and supplies. Daddy worked for GM and when a strike was expected, they would increase the supplies even more. Eventually daddy made an extra pantry in the garage (insulated and heated with a single lightbulb) for mom’s annual canning- peaches, pears, green beans, tomatoes, etc.
I have tried to always keep a month or more worth of food, but lately have been working toward a year or more of food and supplies, including seeds that can help keep us eating even if the food in the stores gets sparse. I have canned and dehydrated more in the last 6 months than I have in the last twenty years.

One (9yo) is on the edge of the Autistic/Asperger's spectrum and has texture issues plus some of his likes and dislikes change frequently. We had to sit down and make a list of things to add to our stockpile that he never turns down. We haven't made that shopping trip yet, but will be soon. And of course, what was going to last us 2 a year or more is now cut in half or less, so we feel much less prepared than we did a month ago. Definitely will need to up our game a bit!

Lol. I used to buy 7 gallons of milk for 4 people weekly and need to buy a couple more gallons during the week when my kids were home. People would ask if if was having a party or donating it. Nope my kids and husband love milk, we don’t drink pop or juice. They love milk, they are farm kids but we don’t raise cows and our neighbors wouldn’t sell us raw milk even though my husband and I were raised on it from our farms. We grow our own vegies and fruit, I can and I hunt and process my own venison. I make my own noodles and bread. So I actually didn’t need to buy a lot in weekly groceries except for milk and a few basics butter, sugar! Flour and condiments. I am so proud to hear sensible people like you folks. I taught my children to be more self sufficient. I needed them to know how to process their own food for live to freezer. When my kids went to college my daughter had a small freezer in her dorm room and she had a crockpot. I would get her a deer and that is what she would eat. She had health issues eating the cafeteria food. She had frozen vegies and canned fruit. My son’s roommates in college couldn’t believe that he knew how to cook and clean. Lol. I also supplied them with homemade laundry soaps because it was so much cheaper. So you folks make me so proud that you are raising your children on how to be self sufficient. No one is going to 5pm e card of you. You need to take care of yourself so you can help others also. God Bless You!

This is really excellent. I live alone on my one acre homestead that I just acquired two years ago. I spent the last two years doing light renovations and making it ready for when I get older. I’m 64. I don’t have animals, I have bees, and my goal is to grow as much as I can. The winters are quite harsh, so it’s nothing for me to walk into Costco in the late fall and drop hundreds of dollars on a winter haul. It isn’t possible to grow everything and I don’t want to drive forty five minutes in a snowstorm to go to Napanee. 🇨🇦 I also want to can some meat products for when there are power failures. Sometimes storms come sweeping through here and they take down a lot of power lines. I am new here to your channel and I love this channel. Thanks for everything you do. Peace, love, and God bless you.

I'm so glad y'all are being up front and sharing that things are getting serious. We have 3 children and grand children and honestly, they haven't got it yet, so I'm trying to stock up for 5.
God bless families, like yours, who are working together and staying together. Your videos are a blessing and I've learned a lot. 🙏🏻❤🙏🏻

I hear you on the teenagers. We are a blended family and had 5 teenagers between the ages of 14 and 19. It was amazing to watch food disappear. Our Costco bill was consistently over $1000 every month, plus other grocery stores. Thankfully, we are past that and down to just 2 of us.

I just filled up my expedition, and it was $89 at 15 mpg; it won't get me far. My husband's truck is the same.
We have always stored what I call bare bone basic staples. This includes beans, flour, wheat berries, rice, cornmeal, sugar, salt, oats, a large variety of herbs and spices, basic single ingredient foods. All of this I can combine to create anything we want from scratch. We make our own condiments, seasoning blends, brown sugar, baking powder, etc.. We've been doing this since 2008/2009 and cooking from scratch since then too. We garden and preserve our food. We raise chickens and waterglass our extra eggs. We used to raise meat rabbits too, but haven't added that back in since moving. We wild forage for edibles. We also grow and make our own herbal medicine too. It's all a challenge, but it is very rewarding when you learn more and more of what can be done. Thank you for sharing with others and keep up the good and faithful work.

I'm so glad ya'll did this video. In my opinion, the video came across as concern, knowledgeable, and helpful. I pray others take away the same thing. I've never understood the judgments of others. We only have one son left at home out of four. One of our sons has a family of his own. Another is engaged. We are not only stocking up for the three of us, but for our children and grandchildren as well. If and when something serious happens all of our boys want to come home. Instead of three at home we will have eleven. That's a huge difference! If we weren't stock piling we would run out of food in two months instead of six or eight. I honestly believe we are doing the Lord's will not ours.

Awesomeness and yes things are getting very serious! My hubby said yesterday all our kids are grown and on their own but what about these folks that still have a bunch of kids at home to feed besides all their other needs ! Folks need to hush ! Yall have a large beautiful family you are Responsible for so preparing is your responsibility and you have to be wise and thoughtful!

I don't mind being labeled a food hoarder. What I buy isn't destroyed except by consuming it, which means I would have purchased it eventually, anyway. I have about two years stocked up, so when everyone is grabbing all the toilet paper, canned foods, etc, I am not with them fighting for the limited supplies when the panic hits.

I found shirts and pants and sneakers on clearance along with winter items. I grabbed up what I will use. I didn't over buy but got things I needed for my grandkids and us.

Even in the Bible there are examples of famine so yes I agree it was commonplace for families to save for a rainy day. Great content and I love that you are sharing with the world the importance of personal responsibility. I prep because I have a family that relies on what I do or do not do. Having a plan is indeed paramount. Godspeed.

I just bought chicken and pork chops for my son’s family. He has 5 kids supporting mostly on his own. So when I find good deals I try to help him stock up! I’m already stocked up, so now I only fill in the holes. I’m in FL so I’m used to preparing.

here's how I addressed this with my left leaning friends who watch the news & make hoarding comments. I buy in bulk every few months & only drive 2 miles round trip once a week to my grocery store for fresh fruit & anything I'm in need of before my bulk order. I bring my own shopping & produce bags to the grocery store. I don't buy packaged items. When I get my bulk orders, nearly all of the packaging goes into my compost vs the dump. I'm incredibly intentional with my tiny .50 acre with rabbits, quail, chickens, a garden that I grow fruit/herbs & veggies. I have planted berry bushes, fruit trees. I compost, I use my animal waste & compost for my plants. My chickens eat a lot of bugs so I don't need toxic pest control treatments. We don't go out to eat anymore unless it's a special occasion (like how we grew up).
ALL of those things are helping the environment, reducing waste & healthy practices. Then I feed them. They've stop criticizing me and are now asking for help. I'm not bothered by what other people think but when they attempt to accuse me of something & they're not correct, I'll stand my ground & have a conversation with them.
Our biggest concern with the current & impending food shortages & that in our neighborhood, We're one of the only ones gardening, etc. Protecting your food supply is another huge issue people need to think about. We have to factor in power outages, hurricanes, extreme heat & other things as well.
