  • On our last day in Manila we visit the Manila-American Cemetery. It is a beautiful memorial to those who fell in the Pacific theater of World War 2. It is a must visit location for anyone from the United States, or who have ties to the battles in the Pacific.

    Visit the World War 2 memorial in Washington DC…you will find all 50 states line up in a semi circle with the Philippines and Guam at the end.

    I was teary-eyed watching this video. My grandpa was a member of the USAFFE - United States Armed Forces in the Far East. He survived WWII and was buried in the Hero’s cemetery that’s close to the American cemetery. We owe a lot from the United States of America. This country has given me so much opportunities, so much freedom that I would never get from my home country. I’m so grateful, really grateful🇺🇸🇵🇭🇺🇸🇵🇭🇺🇸🇵🇭LONG LIVE THE FRIENDSHIP AND BROTHERHOOD!

      We were teary-eyed being there. It stills your heart to see the massive amount of names of soldiers who gave everything so others could have a more free life. We are grateful for your grandfather’s service as well! We agree, long live the friendship and brotherhood! 🇵🇭🇺🇸

    The American Cemetery in Manila is much more ELEGANT than Arlington Cemetery. I know because I’ve been there in 2000 Washington DC

      The American Cemetery in Manila was designed by an American,it is not just names listed on the Wall like the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C.They wrote the name ,rank and the State where the person came from.The names of those who died are listed under the State where they came from and you have to walk all 50 states and the names are from the Left to the Right.Very moving.I sobbed seeing the cost of lives during World War 2.

    Watching this video made me choked up. Thank you for visiting. Majority of Americans don’t know anything about the sacrifice Filipinos and Americans service members. I had no idea that cemetery is there. There are more American cemeteries in the Philippines you can visit.

      ❤️ we were choked up too. This cemetery should be a location every American visits while in Manila - being able to see a physical representation of all those who have their lives. US an Filipino. Thanks to the Philippines for hosting the site and keeping it so beautiful.

    The land upon which this cemetery rests was bequeathed to the USA from the Filipino people in perpetuity. You will find that to also be the case with most if not all the overseas military cemeteries run by the ABMC (e.g France, Belgium, Netherlands, etc.). There is nothing to feel guilty about. A similar situation exists with foreign embassies.

    • @getoutntravel6162
      @getoutntravel6162  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct - but sometimes what a government does will not match the sentiment of the people and can lead to ill feelings. I'm not saying that is the case here though. Its a beautiful cemetery - if you are ever in Manila, I suggest giving it a visit.

    Because we are American country before. The name of our country "Philippines" is an American name... American version of Las Islas Filipinas. Our currency before is US dollars. If US did not grant independence for Philippines then the US territory is from West to East. US have state located in ASEAN region.

    • @getoutntravel6162
      @getoutntravel6162  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Geoffrey, I didn’t think about the name being American. Thanks for the reflection. Hopefully, we can return soon and spend more time in your beautiful country and make more wonderful friends over sisig and lechon!

    Filipinos have so much debt of gratitude with American people, and the cemetery's well keep is the evidence of it. Yes, there are almost 17 thousand American people buried in that place and more than 5 hundred Filipinos.

  • @user-wi9ki1hy2p

    16,636 Americans and 570 Filipinos are buried in that cemetery

      I heard that there was actually no remains of any deceased soldier in that cemetery. The bodies of soldiers listed in that cemetery were never recovered so they just created a memorial for them.

    • @getoutntravel6162
      @getoutntravel6162  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I have read there are some listed as “represented”, but multiple sources - one of which being the American Battle Monuments Commission - state that thousands are buried there.

    It should be mandatory that all Americans who visit the Philippines should pay respect to the dead soldiers and respect their families who cant afford visit the Philippines.

    • @getoutntravel6162
      @getoutntravel6162  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hopefully, videos like this can help families who cannot afford to visit to have an opportunity to witness the memorial from afar. They deserve to see where their ancestors have been laid to rest.

      @@getoutntravel6162 I was thinking of bringing my GOPRO the next time I visit the CEMETERY video all the engraved names and publish in TH-cam, maybe there are some families out there who wants to see the names of their love ones.
      I will be doing some little service for them.

    • @getoutntravel6162
      @getoutntravel6162  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is not a bad idea. Even knowing what to expect when going there - it’s still takes you by surprise - the astounding number of names on those walls. Having a video out there clearly documenting all of it for others could be an impactful teaching tool and way to connect living relatives to the ones they lost.

      @@getoutntravel6162 Ok I will visit on 1st week of February and make an effort to video all the names. I will let you know.
      I also took a lot of shots in Corregidor Island and documented some of the history pictures of the Americans (Mc Arthur) and Filipinos that was trapped in the tunnel and other facilities. I don't know if you visited corregidor.

    Oh that's why it's beautiful and well-maintained because it's an american land in the Philippines and it's the US government that pays for its maintenance. If it was the Philippine government, you will see many informal settlers already occupying that land.

      @@getoutntravel6162 no need because our government will provide financial assistance to the poor Filipinos though it wasn't enough cuz some families are bigger & the cost of living is a bit high for us locals that's why many of Filipinos are still living in the poverty.
