- Join me and my trail tribesman @beyondthecampfire as we thru-hike the 70 mile Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail
The Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail is a 70.1-mile hiking trail in southwestern Pennsylvania, which largely follows the Laurel Hill geologic formation. It begins at Ohiopyle State Park and travels generally to the northeast, and ends at Conemaugh Gorge near Johnstown. Construction of the trail began in 1970.

Y’all definitely hit the trail at peak color- I would argue that the rainy day was most beautiful- those colors with the leaves wet snd glistening were POPPING! I finally got the chance to sit down and watch it, and it was well worth the wait! You captured the colors spectacularly! Especially the yellows and the greens. Everything looks so warm. There are too many good moments to list them all, but here are some of the things I liked: the flashback to the motel, the yellow fern shots, the toe gore, all the rock labyrinth shots but especially the one where there's a little bridge over the rocks and the trees above are golden, the woolly worm, that wide shot of us walking in the ferns that took so long to set up, the relief of getting to camp on night 2, the horses, the shots at the pond, the final overlook, and the 3-2-1-0 countdown at the end.
Thanks so much for immortalizing this trip, and for inviting me to join you. It was an experience I'll remember forever, and I couldn't have done it without you. I'll be watching this one in the future whenever I want to remember what it was like to hike the (so far) longest trail of my life. Thanks again, brother. Here's to the next one!

This is sooooooooooooooo beautiful! (I was honestly just wondering where you went!) I wonder what it all looks like now?? With the BOMB CYCLONE!!! I'm in Houghton, Michigan. The Upper Peninsula...and it's white out. Not as nasty as a lot of people have it...but it's just white out. LOVE this all..the birds chirping, the mosses, lil' critters, etc....and what's the story behind touching mile markers?? (or whatever those things are...) I bet the smells were just fabulous! I wonder if the ski hill does color tours...they do U.P. here. When people go places and ask me if I want anything...I tell them "A rock". Wouldn't THAT be fun! Get me a rock. lol
I'm still here! Just been busy and in a creative funk 🤣. I live in Kentucky a few minutes south of Cincinnati Ohio and the temps Yesterday were -9 with -30 windchill. Worse thing... only a couple inches of snow 🤷♂️! We were pleasantly surprised with the mile markers, so touching them was like giving them high fives as we made our way down the trail! Just a weird hiker thing! The rocks in the UP are good for collecting! I follow a gentleman on Facebook that hunts rocks with copper deposits in the Keweenaw Penninsula and makes art pieces with them!
