I'm a student pilot and a frequent traveler, and based off of the pressurization systems aircraft have today, the pressure differentials are very low. I've never had a problem with a fountain pen! Great video!

Great! I'm flying to Thailand at the weekend and was wondering if it was ok to use one of my fountain pens during the flight.

Unless you're using the Pilot Metropolitan with the little squeeze 'converter.' Maybe it's just me, but mine has leaked every time [3.] (even when I didn't try to use it in flight.)

Interesting. I'm not sure Brian has tested it with all the different filling mechanisms, so it's possible that squeeze converter isn't the best. - Colin

I have seen a lot of information about fountain pens on planes, but do all this applies for parallel pens too?
I'll be flying in two more weeks and I wanted to know if it is ok to use mine or if there is even more risk of leaking.

Yeah, they should be fine as well, just make sure you follow some of the same principles, keeping the 'nib' up, keep the cap securely tightened. If you are worried, putting them in a ziplock bag can help limit any sort of leaking that might happen. - Colin

Oh! I always thought they would leak. I'm glad I'm wrong ^^

Yeah, outside of takeoff, you should be good to go. Write away! - Colin

Why would you write during takeoff anyway?

Like Brian said, I doubt many people are writing during takeoff, but if for some reason you are, it's a bad idea. - Colin

I am not much of a traveller but last week I went for an Italy trip and took my Lamy Logo and Al Star on board and took the test to write during take off. To get the ante up I decided NOT to fill the pen completely and leave them half full. There was no burp. No leak. No splatter. No drop of ink spilled and no instant combustion. No instant plane crash nor were there any leprechauns involved. Not that that has anything to do with it but I want to make sure thats clear. No leprechauns. Anywho. My two trusty Lamy's acted the part. They wrote just like any other moment in space and time and didn't seem to care the slightest bit about take-off, cruising or landing. Ofc: YMMV
edit: Lamy Logo had a cartridge and the AlStar a converter with Akkerman#28.

What's the thing next to Brian on the desk?

It's called an Ooze Tube, Brian has like 3 of them. You can get them on Amazon. - Colin
