    Kindred is also one of the only champs where your team makes it harder for you to play the game by playing the game. Senna is the best botlaner in the entire game. She has everything a botlaner would love to have. The only counter to her is hard engage, mobility, or sharp burst. All the things that most botlaners don't have at least until mid game. By then, Senna is rolling all over her keyboard to kill you.

      I dunno how senna used to be, but as of now I play her in support.

    • @joshuaa7266
      @joshuaa7266 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Imo Senna is primarily too strong because she has the damage of an ADC with the utility of a support (AoE root, shields, and heals). The problem is that you can't nerf her too much without making her unviable for one of her roles, and if you try to nerf her evenly for both, you put her in an awkward state where she's outclassed in both roles.

    I love Kindred but there is one reason I never play them. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE on the enemy team will actively go out of their way to shut you down, even more than a yi. One game I played Kindred the toplane fiora actively lost top to deny my bottom scuttle crab and got collapsed on. And it's not just when I play kindred. Another game I played mid our kindred jungler got three man collapsed on the top first scuttle EVEN when me and my friend toplane went to cover the Kindred and 2 v 3ed. It became a game of protect Mr President because of how hard the enemy team was focused on hunting them. It's actually silly so I'd rather just play yi at that point. At least I will out heal everyone and be untargetable.

      Listen, I am 220k kindred main, and I know ur struggle, but when started playing irelia bc she's fun(still a kindred main btw) nothing hurts my mental more than knowing I would be beatin' by my favorite champ, so I would go out of my way to target kindred every game, it's just a superiority complex whenever I see this champ on the enemy team

    • @keikosatoch.2259
      @keikosatoch.2259 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      In this case you need to not take that scuttle and start to manipulate the mark system. So if you know they are going to collapses on the current mark ward it so you know the time. From that point wait 40 sec and clear the second suttle if at this point you didn't get one at this point. During that time you can take the raptors/ gromp to start the mark manipulation effect and make sure you keep a pink in the other enemy jungle. Somewhere like blue bush or the bush near wolves for raptors and red buff or just behind it from gromp. She is a huge mind game champ. So learning so of her most insane details make her so much more viable as a champ.

    • @caremo98
      @caremo98 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Hmm, a pretty easy solution to this is that the passive and you can place two marks at a time, but only your team will see which mark is the real one. This way you could decieve people esier by using them and wouldnt suffer from that collapse so often, because the enemy doesnt know if they are camping the real mark.

    A friend of mine started playing league, really loved kindred and didnt rest until he had enough Blue Essence to buy her. Everybody discouraged him from playing kindred since she was difficult, I however did not. I taught him how to jungle as his first role and let me tell you, his first games were terribly frustating, it was damn awful. Even though he was struggling, In the end of a week he had a solid understanding of priority, vision control, map araweness and objective control. When he started trying out other champs the results were very clear. Syndra? Too easy. Aphelios? Not that bad. Zyra? Not a challenge. Zyra especially shocked me, considering how well you need to position with her long cast times. Kindred is the best champion for learning how to think league, as long as you are fine with negative reinforcement.

    A few things as an avid Kindred player: the fixes you propoosed would break her early clear making her such a powerhouse early she would be able to full clear with ease while keeping pace with the enemy jungler, who may not be even doing the same. She is really strong and your tweeks will invalidate her stacking mechanic.
    She is really strong early and she is and has exselent skirmishing at lv's 3-5, being able to take on allot of opponents. I agree with your points that she asks allot of soomebody that would take up the role in the first place but: kiting camps, tracking the enemy jungler and looking after your team are things that every jungler has to do, not only Kindred. She may be demanding but I would argue that Graves, even if you put him with the other Fighters, demands more of the player playing him at every elo above silver to perform at the same rate as Kindred. The demand for you team to pick around you, if you first pick is real and I agree with you there.
    The trap of fishing for marks is old and I myself have fallen for it many times while I was learning her, but Kindred do not require their stacks to function in the early game. They can be a snowballing early game jungler as much as any other, but she does only bring damage and light utility in her basic spells. Kindred's stacks most of the time are simply a byproduct of a good overall performance with the champion, as you need to invade when ahead and counter jungle with every champion that fills the role if you are able to.
    TLDR: Kindred are hard as they punish you much harshly for not having down the fundamentals that every jungler demands, still the mechanical skill required to pilot them is not as high as described and they are not the only punishing jungler. She is meant to break early games open and the scaling is icing on top if the game happens to drag on.
    Amazing video, keep up the amazing work.
    Found your channel recently and am really interested in what you do here.

      I mean while I agree with some of your points Kindred more so than any other jungler is match dependant, other junglers can still work with a bad matchup thanks to their utility where as if Kindred falls behind she stays behind, she has very few catchup mechanics and has such poor stats that at any point you make a mistake you basically become useless.
      Legitimately her base stats are awful, and without stacks she can be blown to bits by anyone that sneezes in her general direction. Her only great quality is her range, which can help her win early game but its not as much of an advantage as you would think. Graves at the very least becomes a bit durable with his armour stacking, Kindred has to panic R and hope she can outduel her opponent when its finished.

      The difference between a good kindred, and a bad kindred is how many marks they need to function properly. 10 marks at 20 minutes is perfect.
      If you can manage 10-15 by 30+ you are doing great.
      A lot of people will attempt to group for dragon. You can easy swap for baron, or vice versa if there's a mark. Any marks past 8 makes you better, and better. About 5-8 puts you on par with a normal carry. 10-12 with 2 items makes you a hyper carry with 3 items.

    Why is it the enemy gets to know everything? They get to know who you've marked and the jungle camps marked.
    When somebody dies on the map, even if you haven't selected a target or were not a part of the kill, your passive turns off and you cannot select a target for a small bit of time.
    There is a cooldown to the passive itself, meaning that even if you perfectly kill somebody the second you mark them you still have to wait.
    With cards stacked against you, why is the design this way? You almost exclusively cannot go and be a laner, so why is it that your existence in the jungle is made to be this uphill battle where even when you are ahead your information is still telegraphed to the enemy? Unless you have reliable teammates, the enemy team can just be semi-aware and stop you. Top lanes will take krugs/gromps/scuttles just so you don't get a mark. It's not even just the enemy jungler who can fuck you over. What is your teammate to do? Stand at the camp and protect it for you?
    I truly do not believe that the enemy should have both your personal mark information and the random jungle camp information as well.

    The issues start to crop up at 2:23 when u start discussing their scaling. The origin of that issue is that Kindreds abilities have anti-synergy against champs. Their Q gains cdr while W is active but W deactivates when you chase a champ outside Ws radius. W deals current job dmg which would encourage you to engage with Q with it, but it's actually E that provides the CC needed at the beginning of a gank. However E's final proc deals missing health which encourages using it to finish a fight, and worst Q and W do not help stack E. Their passive encourages counter jungling without on-comand single target burst to act as a safety smite, hard cc, nor any sort scouting mechanic. Their kit is kinda a mess with conflicting goals

    Kindred is actually pretty beast at botlane. I got my mastery 7 on them because of it. Your early game damage with press the attack combined with your "E" instantly deletes your opponent. Your marks are also pretty consistent since you will cycle your mark with the enemy support and adc. The "w" passive also acts like a fleet footwork without the movespeed which boosts your survivability. The only downside is if you can't get ahead enough you will lose to heavy late game ADCs like jhin and vayne

I have to do so many things right and have the stars align to have a team giving me backup, whereas the enemy just picks Jax or Rammus jungle and has roughly the same impact simply by walking at me and pressing their button whenever they see me. I love that getting marks feels meaningful, but at the same time I'm looking at a champion like Senna, who starts out at higher attack range, has an easier time collecting stacks, gets more bonus range from those stacks, additionally also gains ad, crit and lifesteal from those stacks and unlike me doesn't stop gaining more range at a certain point either. It's like those two champions are from completely different games.

  • @briargray2355
    @briargray2355 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I entered the game because I love Kindred and have been playing them main as a new player
    And watching this video, I will give a resounding "yes, this."
    One of my big things is the big things I struggle with is how the enemy gets to know where your jungle marks are, and they're always inside of the enemy jungle. Their ability to see those marks makes them totally crash in on those areas to deny you your marks, and they almost always have an advantage on getting to them first because it's...in *their* jungle.
    I feel like something that'd make them a bit more forgiving to play is having a few of the marks appears in *your* jungle. You still have to hunt them down, and you're still dependent on your marks, but it just means every now and then you get the advantage on getting to your mark before the enemy jungler. Or maybe potentially give increased move speed while moving towards your mark (like with Soraka towards low health allies).
    As it is now feels soooooo so tilted *against* Kindred. You're completely dependent on the marks to function, and the marks are specifically encourage a pure-aggressive playstyle to invade the enemy jungle, which Kindred is too squishy to survive if they come across anyone, at least early on before they can burst the enemy enough to come out on top. They have great wall-jumping ability, but I've found most champions in the jungle have lunge and CC type stuff that locks me in place and squishes me like a bug. I joke to my friends "once I see a champion on my screen, it's already too late."
    Kindred is what I refer to as bad "artificial" difficulty. Their challenge doesn't overtly come from a wise use of your skillset and the skills being hard to use. Quite the opposite on that front with Kindred, really, I think their actual toolkit is very good and easy to apply. No, the difficulty comes from an unfair slant against them as a champion mechanically. The fundamental things to make them work are gatekept behind a passive fueled by stacks that are obscenely easy for your enemy to deny you.
    Playing against a Kindred as a jungler, it is *so* easy to just get to their mark before their do, kill that camp, and then slide back to ganking. Maybe even run into them and lock them down with a CC to seal their fate.
    The fact that I'm a very new player and can *easily* shut down a champion's route to basic viability is...well I think that speaks volumes.

    • @user-pe4if1xy2c
      @user-pe4if1xy2c ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fact that youre a new player is why this is a skill issue. You first observe the enemy team and the enemy jungler's attitude towards your mark. They are either hell bent on getting your marks, or just ignore it. Either way, it gives you the knowledge of what theyre going to do, and you can do SO MUCH with that information. A common example is an enemy jungler who prioritizes your marks. When your mark spawns you just gank the lane and clear the camps opposite to it. This works EVERY TIME.

    • @briargray2355
      @briargray2355 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@user-pe4if1xy2c No longer a new player, as it's been 2 years, and I still think this.
      Enemies can change up prioritizing the marks. They can let you have one, take another, mix and match, often times based on how close they already were to it.
      A support who isn't an idiot can ward according to the mark placement. If the mark is on the botlane side you easily ward it. If it's on toplane side, you deep ward the bot jungle to know if Kindred is there or going up top.
      Support and ADC can also push the lane and go that particular mark if the jungler isn't close, and Kindred isn't going to stand a chance in the 2v1 and less likely to get help because you crashed the wave.
      Imo Kindred needs something that gives some sort of advantage in the pursuit of a mark, like in my original comment, greater movespeed towards a marked target, something like Warwick (though toned down a bit, don't wanna give too much advantage).
      While now that I'm more informed as a player I see more of the nuance to Kindred's kit and the pursuit of marks, I still stand by their mark system being too heavily skewed against them and their gameplay not facilitating mark hunting in an engaging and rewarding way.

    As a 500k kindred, I think you are heavily underestimating their early game strength and somewhat overestimating their reliance on marks. Kindred is an above average early game duelist with low cd Q and kiting around walls. In most games 4 marks by 10-15 mins is sufficient not to be useless and 7 allows you to carry. Four marks allows you to not explicitly play around stacks and 7 means you don't have to think about them except in convenience.

    Platinum one trick Kindred there.
    Picking kindred in duo queues and being provided someone you can trust in, play around a half side of the map, with the synergies and backup you need is something that makes Kindred an excessively strong pick. And then, there are moment my premade is off, and I decide to queue up alone.
    THAT is basically flipping a coin and pray I'll have what it takes in my games to pop off. Thus leading to throwing LPs away most of the time.
    After investing like 3500+ games in the champs (playing them since day 1, before and after rework on passive) I can probably say I master the passive system, I can track where the next marks are gonna spawn, I know who and when to mark people, I know my damage from minute 1 to the last minute, I know what lanes and laners I can gank depending on picks and lane status, when to go for objective or invades. But it's not always enough to perform well in my games. Playing Kindred makes me equally feel like I'm being the hunter, and the prey. Enemies will always be there to contest any mark at any moment, but no matter how many times I ping, even in advance, where I'll need assistance people will nearly always ignore me. They have no idea what my champ does and require in game, sometimes I've even seen high platinum people flash out of my ult after being cast for 2 seconds cause they'd get low inside.
    Playing Kindred is not like playing Dark Souls and rely only on "gitting gud". Your own or your team's macro will ruin more often than your gameplay will.
    And still I keep picking them in every game, solo, duo, flex, just because I fucking love how it feels when you get to the point you can three shot priority targets. Or snowballing to the point I have 3 levels and one and a half item on the enemy jungle main that I spent half game invading and solo killing with little to no counterplay. Or when I fed my ass off, and carry fights just by pressing R at the moment I had to.

    I agree with many points of the video, and as a kindred main I really like it.
    Except maybe the part at around 5:45.
    Kindred is actually not that weak early, she can easily duel champs like Lee Sin and Elise due to her superior Movement-capabilities and her very very higher sustain damage if you survive past an early point.
    I was especially surprised when you said that Evelynn would "bring the pain early" to Kindred.
    Evelynn is extremly weak early, with low damage, low health and low mobility. The only thing Evelynn has earlygame is clearspeed, which Kindred is very good at keeping up with.

    Another issue that could be plaguing Kindred is the mark spawn mechanics of her passive. The marks kindred can get are random in location but on the enemy's side of the map, which means that the enemy jungler knows where to path to shut down a Kindred.
    If they made changes similar to the ones made for the Omnistone keystone, like that the mark is more likely to spawn near where Kindred is currently located, it would make both the mark acquisition be faster and more reliable, and also easier to track where Kindred is. I'm not sure if that would be a perfect solution, but it would certainly help.

    Kindred is really good if you know how to counterplay the enemies own objectives, that also means giving some early drags if it's a champ that can lvl 4 the drag like you can. So Rift or an invade is always a great option once you know where the enemy is. Also, people don't know that you can manipulate the spawns on the marks which leaves new players at a total disadvantage on trying to learn them.

    I used to play kindred a lot, and the reason I stopped was the team comp problem. Very rarely does your team need another ADC, and usually as a jungler you fill the gap of either AP, tank or assassin in the team. I do pick them in or against tank heavy team comps, where having another ADC in your team makes a lot of sense, or when I get an AP/melee botlaner.
    The power reliance on marks is true as well, specially noticeable when your team is on the backfoot, getting priority in lanes to contest marks or being able to kill someone from a losing position is very hard. So it really does feel like a feast or famine champion, where winning games get snowballed easily but losing ones are very uphill.

    "Why no one plays kindred"
    Kindred isn't played because her clear feels bad because her w sustain is to poor and doesn't really help her clear. Her champion is featured as playing as the two hunters of death but wolf has nothing to do with the kit to be honest. Kindred's ult takes to much knowledge to know when to use and her her passive requires your team to play with you but in the most popular elos, plat and down, kindred's mark feels more like a chore than anything because her team doesn't play around her champ. In order to raise kindreds popularity (without a full rework), i would say that her W needs a change or at least a visual rework to make wolf FEEL like hes there, her passive needs to let her see marks BEFORE the enemies 5 or so seconds, that way she can path to it before the enemy team, or her ult needs to be changed to keep everyone alive then do a burst of damage to enemies that is a % of the overall damage prevented that way people aren't scared to play her and messing up in team fights.

    Speaking for myself, what I don't like about Kindred (in any role; not just as jungle) is the reliance on stacks. You have to roam to jungle camps. You have to head hunt. If you don't, you don't scale well. But its disruptive to the natural flow of the game. It can mess up your pathing as jungler to go for a certain camp. It might not be a good call to gank top, even though you could use the early stack. Thematically it was a good mechanic. But in game terms it's a headache I don't need.
    ...
    What I think Kindred could use is an easier way to get early stacks. When a new marked camp appears, maybe it goes to whatever camp is nearest instead of to one across the map. When Kindred marks a champion, maybe don't make it take 8 seconds; maybe it takes 1 second per stack you already have, so that ambushes are easy early but get harder later once you have plenty of stacks. You still eventually get a marked Baron Nashtor; that part of it doesn't need to change.

      I wish they reduced the lock-in time for Kindred's mark on champions. Like a slow-moving ADC has to give you 8 seconds of advanced warning before she can engage, but Evelynn only gives you 2.5 seconds of warning before you can get charmed and MR shredded by a near perma-invis champ? Granted, Evelynn doesn't infinitely scale, but making it easier for Kindred marks to apply would help Kindred be a more active threat in the game, and give her a better playstyle (kill-centric huntress) than her current build - which is a counter-jungling reliant champ that's too squishy to effectively counterjungle - without overloading her kit.

    The Hog Rider is a rare card unlocked from Spell Valley. His fast move speed can boost forward mini tanks like an Ice Golem in a push. At the same time, he can also function as a tank for lower hitpoint troops such as Goblins as he still has a fair amount of health. Most cheap swarms complement the Hog Rider well, as they are nearly as fast as him and usually force more than one card out of the opponent's hand.
    The Hog Rider struggles with swarms, as they can damage him down and defeat him quickly while obstructing his path. Barbarians in particular can fully counter him without very strict timing on the defender's part, though be wary of spells.
    A Hunter can kill the Hog Rider in 2 hits if placed right on top of it. However, if you place something in front of the Hog Rider, Hunter's splash will damage the Hog Rider and hit the card in front of it more.
    Good placement and timing with Guards and The Log will fully counter the Hog Rider, canceling all Hog hits.
    The Hog Rider in conjunction with the Freeze can surprise the opponent and allow the Hog Rider to deal much more damage than anticipated, especially if the opponent's go-to counter is a swarm, or swarms are their only effective counter to him. Skeletons and Bats will immediately be defeated by the spell, while Spear Goblins, Goblins, and Minions will be at low enough health to be defeated by a follow-up Zap or Giant Snowball.
    However, this strategy isn't very effective against buildings as the Hog Rider will take a while to destroy the building, giving the opponent ample time to articulate another counter.
    Non-swarm troops can deal a lot of damage during the freeze time, but this can allow the opponent to set up a massive counter push. For this reason, players should either only go for a Hog Rider + Freeze when they have other units backing it up from a counterattack, or if the match is about to end and they need to deal as much damage as possible.
    It is not a good idea to send in a Hog Rider simply to destroy a building, especially if it is the only building targeting unit available, as defeating Crown Towers becomes substantially more difficult. Spells or simply waiting out the lifetime of the building are more effective. The exception to this is an Elixir Collector placed in front of the King's Tower. If a Hog Rider is placed at the bridge, he can destroy the Collector for a positive Elixir trade, though the damage from both Princess Towers will usually mean he does not survive to deal any damage to them. However, if the opponent sends in defending troops, it can be an opportunity to gain spell damage value.
    In a deck with several low-cost cards, it might be worth it to simply send the Hog Rider against one building. These decks shuffle their card rotation quick enough, that they will arrive at their next Hog Rider before the next building arrives in the opponent's card rotation.
    Long-ranged troops like Musketeer and Flying Machine can snipe those buildings, preserving some of the Hog Rider's health, possibly allowing it to get some Tower damage.
    When there are buildings placed in the middle to counter the Hog Rider, understanding the placement of the Hog Rider and the type of building placed can help the Hog Rider to bypass certain buildings.
    Passive buildings such as spawners and Elixir Collector have a larger hitbox than defensive buildings; which means that if a passive building was placed 3 tiles away from the river in the middle of the opponent's side, then the Hog Rider can't bypass that placement as the Hog Rider will get pulled to that building.
    Defensive buildings have a smaller hitbox than a passive building, which means that if a defensive building was placed three tiles away from the river in the middle of the opponent's side, a Hog Rider was placed at the very left or right side of the Arena may be able to bypass it due to its smaller hitbox.
    If the player has a building already placed down in the center of the arena, and the opponent tries to bypass it with a Hog Rider at the edge of the arena, they can use certain air troops to push the Hog Rider towards the building as it jumps over the river, effectively denying the bypass attempt. They must be already hovering over the correct placement, as very quick reflexes are required to correctly perform this technique.
    For Bats, Skeleton Dragons, and Minion Horde, they should be placed right in front of the Hog Rider as soon as it is deployed.
    For Minions, Skeleton Barrel, Mega Minion, Flying Machine, Electro Dragon, Baby Dragon, Inferno Dragon, Balloon, and Lava Hound, stagger the above placement one tile to the right if the Hog Rider is placed on the left side of the arena, and vice versa.
    They can also use ground troops to achieve the same result. Something like an Ice Golem deployed at the Hog Rider’s landing spot will obstruct his path and force him to go around the unit, which causes him to be closer to the building instead of the Crown Tower.
    The Hog Rider can kite Very Fast non-building targeting troops due to his own Very Fast speed and building only targeting if he is placed on the fourth tile from the bridge, slightly into the opposite lane. He can also stall grounded units when placed right at the bridge. He will pull them towards him while deploying, and then be untargetable by them when he jumps over the bridge. After landing, he will pull them back. This can be useful when the player needs to deal damage in the same lane they are defending. It will also help separate troops behind a tank in a large push.
    A Tornado placed on the second tile in front of the player's King's Tower and staggered two tiles towards the Princess Tower will activate it without any damage dealt with the Princess Tower, helping them in defending future pushes. This can also be a method of mitigating all damage dealt with a Princess Tower, but doing this more than three times may result in the King's Tower's health being low enough to be targeted directly, opening up the possible threat of a back door three crown. A better alternative is to pull the Hog away from the Princess Tower into the attacking range of all three Crown Towers, which will negate all damage as long as none of them are already distracted
    A very powerful combo is the Hog Rider, the Musketeer, and the Valkyrie typically referred to as the Trifecta. The Musketeer will defend against most troops, while the Valkyrie can protect her and the Hog Rider from swarms or high damage units. The Hog Rider is used to deal damage to the tower.
    This can be effectively countered by Lightning, one-shotting the Musketeer and severely damaging both the Valkyrie and Hog Rider. The Minion Horde is also effective, but the enemy can Zap them and the Musketeer will one-shot them all. Even if the Musketeer is defeated, the Hog Rider and Valkyrie will have enough time to severely damage the Tower.
    The Hog Rider should be placed behind the Valkyrie to give it a boost so that it stays in front of the Hog Rider, protecting it.
    A Hog Rider combined with a Goblin Barrel can be awkward for the opponent to defend against. Timing it so that the Hog Rider is tanking the tower shots for the Goblins is the most effective way to deal damage. However, a Barbarian Barrel can shut this down with minimal Tower damage for a positive Elixir trade, as long as the Goblin Barrel was placed directly on the Tower.
    Pairing the Hog Rider with the Balloon can deal devastating damage. If executed properly, the Hog Rider will act as a tank while the Balloon threatens to deal massive damage. The Hog Rider can also destroy any buildings attempting to slow down the combo. However, this combo is very vulnerable to swarms and anti-air cards as neither of the troops targets anything but buildings. Additionally, they are easy to separate, due to the disparity in move speeds. Alternatively, the Hog Rider and the Balloon can be played in different lanes to spread the opponent's defenses thin. However, a building or Tornado can bring them back together for easier defense.
    The Hog Rider can be paired with the Lumberjack as both a swarm bait and damage combo. It is a very fast combo with an extremely high damage output potential, so the enemy will likely try to counter it with a swarm. If this happens, use spell-like Arrows to render the opponent defenseless. If they manage to defeat the Lumberjack, the dropped Rage will make the Hog Rider even more dangerous than it normally is.
    A fast and deadly combination is the Hog Rider and Mini P.E.K.K.A. combo. Both units are fast but the Mini P.E.K.K.A. does much more damage and does not attack only buildings so the Mini P.E.K.K.A. can deal with troops like the Executioner and Musketeer. However, this combo can be defeated with swarms like Skeleton Army, which will defeat both of them since neither of them can deal area damage. They are also unable to target air troops, so the Minion Horde can stop this easily.
    A risky play is to deploy the Hog Rider at the bridge as soon as the match starts. If the opponent does not react fast enough, the Hog Rider will deal a significant amount of damage to the Princess Tower. This can also allow the player to quickly scout the opponent's deck if they happen to react to him fast enough.
