Sam, that was interesting to watch even though things didn't go according to plan. Dutch football didn't bevcome fully professional until the mid-1960s which may explain why an amateur team won so many league titles. You're in a great part of Europe for groundhopping: very good public transport, distances aren't too great and the standard of football is pretty high. My brother lives in Cannes and the local club AS Cannes had a young player called Zidane. Whatever happened to him? Looking forward to your German content.
Hi Sam, just stumbled upon the video. Didn't knew you travelled all around Europe to visit football stadiums when we did let you in and happen to speak a little bit. Great to see the video you've made! If you ever happen to visit once again, be sure to let us know! And don't forget your scarf! Good luck and have fun on your football adventures Sam! Cheers, Excelsior Rotterdam
Mate, I got something you might want to visit sometime. Here in the Netherlands we got 2 big amateur derbies, both played in the Tweede Divisie (third tier). Katwijkse Derby between VV Katwijk and KVV Quick Boys and to me the most interesting one to me; the Spakenburgse Derby, with their 'stadiums' only ~50 meters apart, both derbies have a very fierce rivalry for that tier in Dutch football. Would love to see you go there someday!
I'm an Excelsior fan who lives in Scotland. I got to your channel through your Scottish videos, in Scotland I follow my local team Lochee United. I actually saw you at the Auchinleck Talbot v Hearts cup game at the start of the year but you were very busy at that moment and later I missed you, otherwise I'd have said hi! Thanks for your video, lovely to see my club on your channel. In terms of support we're quite a small club, really just a big family club. Some great people work at the club who have gone to the club from a very young age so I'm not surprised they let you in. As we're a small club, they are very approachable as most people know each other. We've played at that ground from our foundation in 1902, although it's obviously been rebuilt since (we've had spells away but always returned). My family originally comes from Kralingen, the part of Rotterdam where Excelsior are from. I've been a season ticket holder until I emigrated. If you'd like to see other historic grounds in the country, I'd thoroughly recommend DHC in Delft. Now 6th tier, but a former professional club and a beautiful historic ground. Currently their capacity is 8K, it used to be much more but at this level they already never get close to 8K.
When I was a student I lived very close to het Kasteel and would often get off at the tram stop from 6:50 to get groceries. At the same time I'd usually have classes in the highrise building you can see at 8:20 meaning I'd see both the Sparta and Excelsior stadiums during my daily commute. :)

I was in the Netherlands 3 weeks ago. (Utrecht, The Hague and Rotterdam) Sparta Rotterdam: Fantastic staff. Especially the seller in the shop was super nice and friendly. And the exterior of the stadium is absolutely beautiful. My girlfriend had to go to the toilet urgently and the gentleman in the fan shop made an exception and she was allowed to use the toilet. Excelsior: The fan shop is really small. Super cute just a small switch with a glass window. I always buy scarves from the clubs I visit. The nice young man also allowed me to take pictures in the stadium, which I really liked. Feyenoord: I didn't like that... They came across as a bit arrogant to me... But big shop. And of course the stadium is great.
Arrogance is the disease from amsterdam. A thing the Feyenoordfans strongly dislike. So perhaps you could match up with the hardcore fans who often don't like that as well.

Amazing video Sam, went to Rotterdam a couple of years ago and it was one of my favourite cities I've ever been to. Looked around the outside of De Kuip but gutted I didn't check these out, will have to at some point!
A great vid Sam. My ex-girlfriend was Dutch and from Rotterdam so seeing the place on video brought it all back to me. That outside of the Sparta ground looks as amazing as Parkhead or Ibrox.
Great bud bud👍🍺 The Scottish clubs like Raith and Dundee should revamp their stadiums to having raised seating with facilities underneath the stands and higher up TV crew areas. Would solve the space problems they have for their stadiums in current locations, would open up more facilities and also provide better viewing for TV companies because the whole pitch can be see from a higher camera angle.
For future reference, "sfeer" means "atmosphere". I'm off to Utrecht via Rotterdam in 3 weeks time for the first time in 3 years and your video has got me all psyched up!
Great video, thanks! Go to Breda if you have a chance. N.A.C. is the club with the longest football club name in the world and has some of the most passionate fans in the Netherlands (club flags flying all over town on match days, no drums allowed, only singing at the top of your lungs for 90 minutes). Man City tried to buy them recently, but the fans revolted.

Great video. But maybe if u ever come back to Holland go to Willem 2, NAC Breda or Go Ahead Eagles. Also if u want to see some top tier amateur stadiums that maybe under the radar check RBC Roosendaal and DHC delft
Pity you could not get inside Sparta Rotterdam's Castle Stadium to have a look around. You make really great videos of all the football grounds that you visit. Have you ever visited Coventry City's CBS Arena ?
I’ve been there when I went to the friendly match Feyenoord against Atletico Madrid, I’m an Atletico Madrid fan, and I went as well to Sparta’s stadium, I saw it from the outside, It’s a cool looking stadium. The back entrance is where you’ll find the castle entrance
Being born and raised in Rotterdam i can tell you the castle is great. But the ground in general is just another stadium like many others. Great vid tho
I have been watching a lot of your videos and it's very funny to see you walking through the city where I live now. Got to say that Feyenoord is the most beautiful club in the world though.
Oeps, you sat in the wrong dug-out. But you sat on the chair of our lord and saviour Marinus Dijkhuizen. (Also, the hospitality shown by my club makes it beautiful! ❤️🖤)
Went past Excelsior ground on the way to 1991 cup winners cup final, I'm sure it was a 3 sided ground as I remember back then , but I may of been mistaken
How many EFL, SPL or Bundesliga clubs would even consider letting you on the pitch? And Rotterdam really is a gem of a City, I was at De Kuip for the Netherlands - Wales Nations League match earlier this year and it was great
Great vid as always. There is a Croatian Football Team called HNK TROGIR who's stadium is sensational, there is an actual Castle alongside the pitch, its stunning and sits on the Adriatic Sea. Check it out my friend 👍
Nice video once again, especially since it’s in the Netherlands. Train strikes were really bad so I’m sorry for that. Next time I hope all your video’s will go to plan. Enjoy Germany!
Hi there....nice channel! As a Sparta fan it dissapoints me that Sparta wasn't more welcoming or accommodating :( They probably had their reasons, but still...
if you ever return to the Netherlands, fc Wageningen is a must go. they went bankrupt in 1992. supporters thought after the last game they could simple return next season but in one go the club was gone. after years of neglect volunteers took care of the stadium. in 2013 the roof over the seats had to be demolished for safety reasons. volunteers have placed a new roof recently. fc Wageningen played 2 seasons in the Dutch Eredivisie and won 2 dutch cups(knvb beker).
@Footy Adventures: Now you're finally in Germany and unfortunately you don't announce yourself beforehand. There would definitely have been a visit there.
I began this video in Belgium, filmed the majority in the Netherlands and finished it in Germany. I'm exhausted so PLEASE, PLEASE subscribe!!!

Great video Sam..can u come to Plymouth Argyle one day we have lots of history..nice stadium..we are massive in Devon! Would be interesting ⚽️👍
You should go to royal antwerp football club in Belgium. Amazing history with one of the best atmosperes!
Nooit Opgeven Altijd Doorzetten Aangenaam Door Vermaak En Nuttig Door Ontspanning Combinatie Breda. Lmao very long name indeed (Noad Advendo Combinatie)
11:40 cheeky Feyenoord sticker haha
Great video. But maybe if u ever come back to Holland go to Willem 2, NAC Breda or Go Ahead Eagles. Also if u want to see some top tier amateur stadiums that maybe under the radar check RBC Roosendaal and DHC delft
Great video again Sam! Did you know 'Eredivisie' means 'Honour Division'? ;-)
I love your vlogs bro🤩 Greetings from Poland😎
Pity you could not get inside Sparta Rotterdam's Castle Stadium to have a look around. You make really great videos of all the football grounds that you visit. Have you ever visited Coventry City's CBS Arena ?
loving the vids mate love from the hibees family
You should go to Go Ahead Eagles in Deventer, proper oldschool ground
I’ve been there when I went to the friendly match Feyenoord against Atletico Madrid, I’m an Atletico Madrid fan, and I went as well to Sparta’s stadium, I saw it from the outside, It’s a cool looking stadium. The back entrance is where you’ll find the castle entrance
@24K.productions lmao diego simeone was not having it with the ref and our coach 😡👉
Saw Sparta when I was in Rotterdam in 2011,they'd just gone down to the second division and took quite a while to get back up
Being born and raised in Rotterdam i can tell you the castle is great. But the ground in general is just another stadium like many others. Great vid tho
I have been watching a lot of your videos and it's very funny to see you walking through the city where I live now. Got to say that Feyenoord is the most beautiful club in the world though.
Excelsior used to be Feyernoord farm team. Most of the Feyernoord youngsters ply for Excelsior before joining their parent club
Would love you to cover Dortmund and the smaller stadium, die Rote Erde beside Westfalenstadion.
Oeps, you sat in the wrong dug-out. But you sat on the chair of our lord and saviour Marinus Dijkhuizen. (Also, the hospitality shown by my club makes it beautiful! ❤️🖤)
PLEASE visit HFC in the Netherlands who are The oldest football club in the Netherlands. 🇳🇱
I got to see Sparta vs Ajax there 2 weeks ago. it was a great experience.
Always curious about this castle when I watch Sparta games. 😳
It's so overrated. It's littarlye just 1 wall/door that's castle like. Rest just stadium 🤣
@@Rickertik010 en alsnog mooier dan de badkuip
a beautiful stadium in between a residential area
@@malhi0102 typisch Spartanen gedrag. Altijd denken dat ze beter zijn 🤣🤣
Sparta is the club of rotterdam
Class video
Thanks mate!!
Went past Excelsior ground on the way to 1991 cup winners cup final, I'm sure it was a 3 sided ground as I remember back then , but I may of been mistaken
How many EFL, SPL or Bundesliga clubs would even consider letting you on the pitch?
And Rotterdam really is a gem of a City, I was at De Kuip for the Netherlands - Wales Nations League match earlier this year and it was great
Killie played Sparta about thirty years ago , A four Team tournament to celebrate promotion, beat them 2-1 if I remember right
SPARTA ROTTERDAM!
Great vid as always. There is a Croatian Football Team called HNK TROGIR who's stadium is sensational, there is an actual Castle alongside the pitch, its stunning and sits on the Adriatic Sea. Check it out my friend 👍
SP - ER - MA
I think De Kuip has floodlights outside the stadium as well.
Sam you ever thought of buying a drone would be ideal for taking pictures if ground is closed .
You should go to a FC Twente game if you get the chance, best atmosphere in the Netherlands
welcome to sparta rotterdam!
Maybe you must visit a Match from NAC Breda at home vs Willem II
@Footy Adventures: Now you're finally in Germany and unfortunately you don't announce yourself beforehand. There would definitely have been a visit there.
When will the Dortmund vid be out? Saw u next to the Sud
Can you go to bari italy 🇮🇹
Have you been to The Hague (Den Haag)? You have to experience the atmosphere at the ADO stadium!
Celtic wore numbers on their shorts for the first time in a friendly against Sparta. Think it was around 1962/63
I know and worked with a Sparta fan. Shame you couldn't get into the stadium
Top 5 most successful Dutch Football Clubs by League titles

Playing in 3 d pitch has its advantages lilt constant tool on the ball
'Tribune' in Dutch means 'Stand'. Therefore it's the RVP Stand.
Let us know next time you're planning to come through Rotterdam! we'll save you a Feyenoord Ticket :)
