I'm a Carlisle United supporter who moved to Halifax about 2 years ago from Keighley, when in Keighley I'd have never imagined going to the Shay, but when I moved to Halifax I thought I'd go down, I started going around February last year & now have a season ticket for this season. I think it's quality that there is professional football walking distance from my house. But in terms of Halifax town, they do nothing to attract new fans, within the town on a match day there is absolutely no indication that there's a game happening, off the field the club is amateur (no tickets, cash only, no club shop etc etc) the pricing is very expensive and obvs the club is slap bang in the middle of Manchester, Leeds Bradford etc which young'uns Will go support them as on tele more etc etc. i think another point is, obvs the club reformed in 2008, which i think it has missed out a whole era of supporters there unfortunately

Hi Stye, enjoyed your video & found it interesting, Halifax needs more like you that care for the club. Does the local council not take an interest in the club putting it at the heart of the community & using the facilities the club has to offer ? Do the owners not try to promote the club in the community or at local schools to encourage kids to the shay with a parent ? How much does the community care about the club & if it lives or dies ? Anyway you have a new subscriber & good luck to Halifax this season, hopefully the local community will start to back the club & that you will soon get promoted back to the EFL.
@@jacacc12 thank you for the comment, first of all I’m not a big fan of the way the vast majority of the local council treats The Shay or the teams that play there, I don’t think they could care less if there was a stadium there or a block of flats, but I think there are people whether they’re associated with the council or not who do care about the clubs there, I like our owner very much for helping us come back after we went bust in 2008, but I think he’s aware that the club needs more than what he can offer at the moment, we need more investment and sustainability behind the scenes of the club in the long term future and so we could do with some help off the pitch, we’re not a dying club but we’re certainly not the most financially sound either, and the whole reason I made this video was so the local community could be more aware and help Halifax more, Just me talking on camera and asking why would never do enough, the club needs to be looked out more in all ways, locals, council, owners etc., I know Halifax can be a bigger club certainly a League 2 side in the making, as long as everything is positive on and off the pitch, thanks for all the comments.
I was in a Shay crowd of 970 when we were in Division 3. It's not a new problem. People will make all the excuses they want, and what you'll find is when the results are good they'll complain about the football, when the football is good they'll complain about results and when the football and the results are good they'll complain about the facilities or the atmosphere. The simple fact is that Halifax doesn't give a shit about it's football club
@@moodyb2 I think I know was at that Division 3 match, but someone also use to tell me that crowds below 3000 back in the day use to be poor, nowadays it’s rare and usually the biggest crowd of the season, to be honest one thing I forgot to say in the video was that some teams at our level seem to have had a rise in crowds, unlike ourselves, mainly because of people not watching or being able to afford watching the premier league or other big leagues on TV, I wish our crowds got bigger along with the other teams, sadly that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon, if there was a big reason though, I’d love to see it being sorted for the sake of the club.
York are getting 5,500-7,000 this season. Earlier this season they took 2,224 fans to Halifax. out of an attendance of 3,961. Credit to Halifax, they gave York unlimited tickets.
Its a shame that you don't get bigger crowds, the local community needs to support you. There must be angst somewhere against the owners or council or something. You have always brought a few to us at York. By the way, your 2000 comment about those clubs towards the top is way off. Oldham and York are in the 5,500 average, Southend 7,000 and Hartlepool 4.500. Rochdale I can't remember but its probably nearer four thousand. All those clubs market in their local area heavily.
@@andrewcopeland I should have probably checked the crowds at those clubs before making the video, but I knew they got more than us by a fair few supporters, I couldn’t agree more with local marketing though, there’s not enough in Halifax for its sports teams, and the local council doesn’t do enough either, definitely think they should be more advertising and marketing for Halifax in its own town.
Surely Halifax is a rugby area? On the rugby league front, locally there's Halifax RLFC (pro club) plus amateur clubs like Illingworth, Elland, etc. On the rugby union front there's Halifax RUFC, Halifax Vandals, Old Crossleyans, Old Brods, Heath, Old Rishworthians, etc etc. When you consider all the young lads who play for all these clubs' first and second teams, and all their family, mates and wider community who watch them play rugby every weekend, it isn't any wonder football is squeezed. Halifax Town have ALWAYS had poor crowds. I've always assumed this is because the area's sporting interest is rugby oriented. But then, I'm not a native of Halifax so I can't claim special knowledge.
@@ChrisLonsdale67 yes it is more of a Rugby area, especially Rugby League, I believe Halifax RLFC (or Panthers as they are now), have four league championships from the old rugby league and five challenge cups as well as producing a lot of talent for the global rugby league landscape even now, all I’m asking is if you’re a football fan in this area and not really rugby fan (or both), why not come watch the local football team, plus most teams in our division, like Oldham, Rochdale and York who I brought up in the video also have similar sized rugby league/rugby union clubs with similar amounts of supporters as Halifax RLFC, if Rugby is more popular with sports fans In Halifax (especially younger sports fans), than those towns then naturally Halifax RLFC are gonna be the breadwinner out of the two.
Also look at the age range of your supporters, is it an aging attendance, we had that at York but ever since the move to the new ground our average home attendance has more than doubled now and the average age has fallen with hundreds of 12-19 year olds. A season ticket is a reasonable price for under 18s too.
The trouble is all kidsnow want to support the big clubs,Manchester and Liverpool and Leeds is on the doorstep, not like the old days when you supported your local team i follow Huddersfield but i sometimes go to the Shay if we have no game its a shame that people have no loyalty to their locality anymore.Hope Halifax can survive and prosper.
@@johnwalsh1990 I do see some people nowadays bored of watching Sky and The Premier League on TV, so watching your local team is always an option if you are fed up with all that, but I suppose it’s a choice on who you want to watch instead, if Halifax isn’t appealing and Leeds and Huddersfield is then naturally people would go watch them instead.
