It was also a bit of nonsense to say that Putin wanted to "redevelop the Russian Orthodox Church" (fifty second mark in the video) Christianity in Russia grew when the repression of the atheist Communist Era ended in the early 1990s, long before Putin came on the scene a decade later. Maybe you can say that Putin is trying to ride the church's coat tales out of political interest, but they present it like he went in there and started rebuilding things according to his image. That is just not true
There next point was that Russia has a religous interest in Syria, and then they start talking about Assad's dad and conclude with Russia is telling people it is the saviour of the Christian world. But this is not the teaching of the Russian Orthodox Church, or any other local Orthodox church, the teaching of the Church is that Jesus Christ is the Savior. They follow this up with an Assad quote where he said that Putin was the only defender of Christian civilization, okay that is fine for Assad to think, but he doesn't speak for the Russian Orthodox Church either.
Then it goes on with how there are two cities that are significant to the Russian Orthodox church, and once again they don't mention the poor Antiochian orthodox church headquartered in Damascus. They go with Palmyra that some dead empress lady, who also was not a spokesperson for the Orthodox Church, really liked. That's great and everything that Saint Petersberg is the Palmyra of the north, but I thought this article was about the Russian Orthodox church.
Next at 2 minutes 34 sec they say an orchestra performed in Palmyra, and they call that propaganda. I don't see how that performance of some dudes playing violin is propaganda, but okay. I also don't see the connection to the Russian Orthodox church; Orthodox churches don't have orchestras, musical instruments in Orthodoxy are very rare, instead they have choirs. So I don't see what this Putin Propaganda orchastra, whatever that is, has to do with the Russian Orthodox Church.
Next they go on to tell you that a Russian Veterans group with "Government links" rebuilt a church in Mauloola. The Holy Rus have cultivated the Gospel in their hearts and defended it from the turks, the papacy, the mongols, and now, it serves as a secure platform for Orthodoxy in the first world. I pray that the relations between Moscow, Constantinople, Athens, and Alexandria may heal from the problem regarding the disputed jurisdiction of Ukraine.
