    First album that I ever bought and with my own money that I saved from working as a laborer for my fathers construction company. I was ten when I bought it in 1976 & I still have it and it still sounds great :-)

      +Erik Roberson This came out right after Alive 4. Ace unfortunately was out of the group and Tommy Thayer had started his tenure. Ace was not at a good place during this point in his life. He did put on the Space-Ace costume for a few min for the brief few words he gave.

    This album is a thousand times better if you've seen this concert. It's forty years later for me and I STILL get the same excitement I felt at the concert I was at in 1976. There will NEVER BE a BETTER "Live" Album made like this one that still holds a magical rock & roll spell over us true KISS Fans. By the way....I like most genres of music from Soul/Funk/R&B to Heavy Metal, Country, Blues, and I appreciate all other forms of music.

    Too much time is spent justifying the 'overdubbed' sections. I wouldn't have wanted a double LP full of mistakes. They made the album much better and history seems to approve.

    As much as I loved this album as a kiss fan, back in the day I always preferred Alive 2. I loved them both don't get me wrong, but I just always preferred the songs on alive 2. songs like Detroit rock city, makin love, shock me, I stole your love, I want you... I love the early stuff trust me, but these songs were ones written in their prime.... 1976, 1977.... destroyer, rock n roll over, and love gun, in my opinion, are just better albums than the first 3. And as a Kiss fan to hear those songs live on Alive 2 was just pure magic. Ace just ripps the solos on makin love, shock me, love gun, I stole your love.... his best work in my opinion.

    I remember seeing this album at the store (I think it was a grocery store...back in the 70's, they sold all kinds of stuff) and I thought the cover was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I was only 10, but my friends big brother had the album and the music was just as good as the cover...I had never heard rock that hard before and I loved it. The enhanced crowd sounds made it even more powerful...even though I kinda figured it was augmented.
    The other album he had was ZZ TOP "Fandango" (which, btw, had one live side) and I loved that one, too...although not as much a "Alive".

    Get over it people. This is not the Eagles standing still staring at their instruments as they play each note precisely. KISS are entertainers putting on a show that is about the visuals AND the great music. Anyone who has seen KISS live know they can play and sing.

      @waltermirren7957 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +zkhott1 Even the Eagles (another one of my favourite bands) live album was overdubbed. As was Frampton Comes Alive, Double Live Gonzo, Cheap Trick at Budoken - even James Taylor. The ONLY one I am not sure of is Love You Live by The Rolling Stones. I have heard the board tapes and there is really no fucking difference. I guess because The Stones have no fucks to give. Even the April Wine album (they opened for the Stones at the ELMO) was "tweaked".

    Kiss should have been filmed performing all songs for ALIVE during the photo shoot and filming for the vhs promotion of their most successful album. The perfect example of such footage would be from 28:40 during the COME ON AND LOVE ME song when Ace's black Gibson Deluxe, Paul black Gibson Firebird, and Gene's Gibson bass guitar.

    Kiss Alive! was the album I heard that blew my mind! The effect they desired they achieved. It worked on me for sure. I was a bright eyed 7 year old kid now given a reason to learn how to play guitar. Eddie Kramer did a superior job mixing and producing the record. It's to this day the most energetic live record ever. After Alive! everyone had to make a live record thinking it would work for them as well. 1976 saw Peter Frampton Frampton Comes Alive. Biggest record he ever had. After that record, he pretty much bombed out. I listened and memorized Kiss Alive!. It was the first album I ever heard from them and it was all I needed. I was a huge Kiss fan. I honestly never thought Alive ll ever matched up. I was too young to go to a concert but Alive! made me envision and feel the experience.

    This was the 1st "record" I ever bought in my life, and I was 12 yrs old. It took me 18 yrs to see the original line up at the 1st show of the reunion tour in Detroit MI at Tiger Stadium on June 28th 1996 and 2 day's after my 30th birthday. This was and still is the very best concert I have ever seen in my life and there is NO comparison. I went fucking crazy down there and almost climbed the fence and jumped down on the field. And talk about exhaustion afterwards and drained of energy. I will never forget it. I am now 48 yrs old and still get out this double CD and listen to it and get chills down my spine and get tears.

    • @80sHairNation
      @80sHairNation 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is, it has nothing to do with the "best" in the terms of what you are thinking. I have some of the same sentiment as the original poster did....but it's not the best because they are masters or sound incredible. It's the whole package of them, their shows, the simplicity of their songs and finally - some nostalgia. It was the first of it's kind, in a different era and it worked beautifully.

    At 0:37 the narrator of this video claims that "Alive became the first LIVE masterpiece of rock" ~ This is a FLAT OUT LIE because a statement such as that blatantly demonstrates a total disregard for "DEEP PURPLE MADE IN JAPAN" which pre-dates "KISS ALIVE" by three full years.

    • @termsofusepolice
      @termsofusepolice 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The narrator's claim is a joke. And Made In Japan was late to the party. The "first live masterpiece of rock" was clearly the Who's Live At Leeds which came out in 1970.

    Very hard to listen to a(n) (always mostly) Gene and Paul interview as they all too frequently speak (and write lyrics) in clichés and lots of metaphors, analogies, and similes. i.e. Face the Music, "meat and potatoes", "Kiss is a Fourth of July fireworks show with a backbeat", "James Bond has a license to kill, rockstars have a license to be outrageous", "spit in the face", "only in America", etc...

    • @azrael193
      @azrael193 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ...I personally loved the music...from the first album to around the time of the "Unmasked" album...they were just a guitar heavy rhythm oriented rock band with catchy hooks.....granted the wellspring of subject matter they drew from (especially the first three albums) was limited to, well...getting laid...period....They seem to be primarily known now because of their merchandising and their spectacular live show and not so much their music and thats too bad!

    Actually! Paul McCartney and Wings made a triple live album so to suggest they were pioneers is a bit egotistical. I love Kiss and im a massive fan but they did tamper with it as well. I have seen Kiss live about 5 times and even in 2008 at the Melbourne grand Prix i think it was an amazing performance considering the day was a 43c temperature. But i think the egos get a little bit out of control in this doco. Kiss were larger than life and Hotter than hell. But dont brag too much boys. lol

      @QuietMan1965 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Wayne Ogston The Wings triple live album was released in December 1976. Kiss Alive was released in September 1975. So technically they were sort of pioneers as far as double live albums go. I'm not sure if there were any double (or triple) live albums out before September 1975.

    KISS is always talked about as being ahead of their time in the showmanship of live performance. Alice Cooper had been doing it for year prior.

    When it came out, I remember wanting to party with the two girls on the inside jacket picture, holding up the KISS sign.
    That album really did represent a great live show.

      I still woulda partied with 'em. Nothing more electric than your first big live show as a kid in the seventies. Back when "they" kind of looked the other way....

      Yes, there are. Dire Straits' Alchemy has no overdubs. Pretty Sure that Deep Purple's Made in Japan is all live.

      It made KISS more popular, but it definitely did not change the music industry. Quit drinking Gene's koolaid. He's the Donald Trump of music.

    I always thought it was interesting that Gene's bass is playing at the end of Firehouse while he was supposed to be walking out with the torch to breathe fire. Yes, there were overdubs on this album but it wasn't completely re-done like Alive II. The band and record company were broke and they had to release a live album because they couldn't afford to put them back in the studio. Kiss' studio albums weren't selling but people were coming to their concerts. It made perfect sense to release a live album.

      Haven't you ever heard of hammer ons and pull offs, maybe your not a musician?!? Yeah, this VH1 show pretty much explains why KISS made the Alive album in detail, thanks.

      +DamionChrist Yes I have but I never noticed he did that with his left hand and held the torch with his right, oddly enough. Guess I was always paying attention to the torch. My bad I guess.
