Regardless of which club he was hitting there is absolutely zero urgency in transition from back swing to downswing...just a buttery smooth move that is simply beautiful to watch. Total control of that swing with all clubs. We all should watch this for twenty minutes each day to try and ingrain that tempo.

that's what Nicklaus said he tried to learn from Snead during their time together on the tour.

Sam is 64 at the time, one month away from his 65th birthday. His third (& final) Master's Win came in 1954. He would shoot 83 this day and withdraw after round one. Sam went on to play & win in the first "Legends of Golf" tournament which later evolved into today's "Champion's Tour". Considering all his accomplishments in golf over six decades of competition, I'd have to rank him #1 GOAT.

He is one of the greats for sure, and one of the sweetest swings of all time. I can't put him as the GOAT though. Zero US Opens. That title has to go to Nicklaus. 18 majors plus the US Amateur twice. But I would rather watch Snead hit balls over Nicklaus.

wonderful players both, but i reckon if you were to ask either of them, they wouldn't say their beautiful rhythm came naturally, but from countless hours of hard work and experimentation. because the golfswing isn't a natural movement - for example, Sam says: "your body swings your arms" th-cam.com/video/RZ1b79epY1c/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=djhbrown yet almost all the people i play with swing their arms before their body, because that's the natural way to do it.

I could watch this video, on a loop, all day long! Snead looks like someone gave the best athlete in the city (and he was great athlete) a set of clubs, and tell him "just take it back, and be smooth getting to your left side". I noticed he has a trigger with this right knee before each swing, similar to Gary Player's, but not as pronounced. That backswing is only shoulder high, club shaft is parallel to the target line, and such a smooth, powerful swing. It's cool to see Andy Bean watching Snead toward the end of the video, then Snead watches Seve. Classic.

The modern golf swing is for the young, athletic, and flexible individuals. Too many injuries occur when all that torque is placed in the lower back. Sam allowed his lower body to be the engine and was able to outlast most of the competition in his days. It will be interesting to see how long Dechambeau lasts.

Those “people standing on the range” are the player’s caddies. Player’s would go to range with a shag bag of balls & their caddy. Caddy would dump balls onto ground & go out to wedge distance or whatever distance player wanted to hit. Player would then hit balls in vicinity of caddy & he’d pick em up & put em back in the shag bag. I guess caddies had to have good eyes but after one or two shots they’d have the distance gauged & would simply move back a couple more paces so they were just out of range.
