  • On Today's Podcast, Ashley Thompson and Dan Novak host the show and Ashley tells listeners what they are going to hear.
First, Ashley reports on the death of Iran's president in a helicopter crash. The helicopter crashed on Sunday in bad weather in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. Search crews found the wreckage Monday. Iran's first vice president has been named acting president and elections are to be held within several months.
Next, Mario Ritter, Jr. has a story about a man who appears to have become the oldest person in space. The space travel company Blue Origin sent Ed Dwight into space making him the oldest person to do so. Dwight is the subject of a National Geographic movie about Black astronauts. Blue Origin says Dwight was the first Black astronaut candidate who was chosen by President John F. Kennedy.
After that, Anna Matteo and Greg Stachel have a story about brain-wasting Alzheimer's disease. For the first time, researchers have identified a genetic form of late-in-life Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s is a disease of the brain that causes people to lose their memory and mental abilities as they grow old.
Following the health report, Anna joins Ashley to discuss a gene that is linked to Alzheimer's disease. The research says that having two copies of the APOE4 gene increases the risk of getting the brain disease.
Finally, Andrew Smith and Jill Robbins look at partitive nouns. The two teachers use an episode of Let's Learn English to find examples of partitive or measure words as Anna and her friend make dinner...or breakfast.
Then, Ashley and Dan sign off.
