  • Trinidad, CO has a pop. of 8,329 . It was first explored by Spanish and Mexican traders, who liked its proximity to the Santa Fe Trail. It was founded in 1862 soon after coal was discovered in the region.
    In the early 1900s Trinidad became nationally known for having the first woman sports editor of a newspaper, Ina Eloise Young.
    Trinidad was dubbed the "Sex Change Capital of the World",[25] because a local doctor had an international reputation for performing sex reassignment surgery. In the 1960s, Stanley Biber, a veteran surgeon returning from Korea, decided to move to Trinidad because he had heard that the town needed a surgeon.
    Trinidad is home to the Cartopia Museum which is an art car museum based in Trinidad, Colorado. It came into being due to the unexpected but delightful success of ArtoCade, Trinidad's yearly art car parade dedicated to building community through the arts. Let me know if you’d like to see me film the car parade this year!

      I am planning to come to Trinidad next week to check it out. I’m meeting my brother coming up from Texas to look at Realestate as he wants to get out of Texas. I live in Denver area and would love to hear about the things and areas that you suggest. I Want to move too but don’t want to leave my grandkids who live here (Denver). My brother is single and he is afraid he would be lonely there . I hope he finds a place. A 3 hour drive to Trinidad is better than a 13 hour drive to Texas.

    Lived and worked there in 1988-89, as the morning radio host at KCRT at the top of Santa Fe Trail. The most popular hangout back then the Golden Nugget Lounge, owned by Dane and Lee Tapp. It really was the 'Cheers' of Southern Colorado. Everybody knew your name. Also got involved in local community theater and performed at Trinidad State Junior College Auditorium. That was also the year Trinidad high school won the state football championship. Hollywood also came to town to film the movie, 'Big Bad John' (released in 1990. Fun times! Great Friends. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

      @@novelworldtravels Big Bad John was far from a Blockbuster, It starred Jimmy Dean, based on his country classic song, Big John. I remember in the evening, the cast and crew would come in and dine with the locals at various spots around town. I never new what happened to that film. . . probably straight to video, but someone recently posted the full movie here on TH-cam. . . th-cam.com/video/I31kxKFH4bA/w-d-xo.html

    I got an Air B n B in Trinidad. I attempted to stay an evening. I informed the host that I had a service dog and by law (ADA) I am only required to disclose that it is a service dog and that the dogs duty is medical alert. I did not feel comfortable sharing any other information with the host due to privacy. The host tried to tell me that I was lying and the dog was not a service dog. I explained that I was a veteran and it is a PTSD service dog. She told me I was lying and that it was fake and that inwasnt really a veteran. After some exchanges I canceled the reservation and blocked her. She then texted me saying I was stealing veterans good name (insevred three tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq). She accused me of using a fake service dog and that I was a “trumper” because I am from Texas. That encounter made me so mad I won't even stop in Trinidad for gas. Glad you had a better experience then I.

    • @novelworldtravels
      @novelworldtravels  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your service. It sucks that you had such a lame experience. Sometimes it's stressful to get lodging in a town you aren't from without the added hassle of being called a liar. That host probably shouldn't be on the Airbnb platform if they can't be fair and treat people with dignity. I will say that that person is likely the exception and surely doesn't represent all of Trinidad. If you are in the area, why not stop in for a meal at a highly rated place and maybe check out the car museum. Those folk are super welcoming. By the way, Texas is a great place. I was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston for a minute. I had a pretty good time there. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed the video.
