Mike and Jen , just saw your Podcast this a.m. We have had a chat with Windell Stephens about the coming glut issue and the Unprepared potential purchasers subject last week . My wife and myself are going thru the Education process since March 2020 . I have amassed a notebook of intel ...We have talked with manufacturers , dealers , owners , watched countless hours of YT video . We know the lifestyle we want , we know the coach which will avail us that lifestyle most affordably , comfortably . We are kicking tires each chance we get , we are comfortable to allow the industry / lifestyle to shake out .
Now to the Drought here .... Living along the Colorado river here in Mohave County , Az , today is a sobering reminder of just what a tenuous area in which we live... Today 30 June , marks anniversary # 8 of the Yarnell Hill fire ; whereby we lost 19 courageous men of the Granite Mountain Hotshots in 2013 ..
We have FIRE RESTRICTIONS galore here City wide , Countywide , Statewide , but the crazy thing is that the local vendors along the roadside & Walmarts & Sam's Clubs are selling huge variety packs of fireworks .. Not to mention those being driven in from neighboring states . It is a frightful time to be sure... Keep up the good work , we enjoy your knowledge base .

I was never so aggravated as when I went to Arizona to boondock and I saw all the trash in the desert. Trasher's should be made to pay a large fine and 90 days , 8 hours a day, 7 days a week cleaning up . If I catch someone trash michigan or any other place I will report them.

I also believe there is going to be a surge in used rvs. RVs are a expensive luxury item that keep on costing you lots of money. When money gets tight it’s the first thing to go. I feel people do their research before buying one but they don’t take in account for all of the extra cost of owning a rv.

Sandra Westley from the UK I don’t think there will be loads of RV s back on the market, just because COVID-19 seems on the wain, I think you will find a new variant will be here before long, we have had boom sales here in the UK of anything that is suitable to camp in, because you do not have to mix closely and you have your own space. I think we will be dealing with this for years to come. All our camp sites are booked throughout the summer, and once you’ve tasted freedom in comfort with all your own things, I don’t think many will go back.

If you can keep up with the raising cost then your ok.
Living in Canada yes we have lots of places to camp but only a short time .
But if you want a privilege camping spot with all the comfort, like swimming pool and bigger showers they are booked so far in advance you just can’t go when you feel like. That’s what camping is all about.
      But to each is own.

I am fed up with not being to go camping. Think I have an answer to the problem but don’t know how to move forward. All across the nation there are churches with big parking lots that are only used two days in a week. I would gladly pay $5/a night to park . Both parties could benefit and who knows if churches could be attended on Sunday. This could be run a lot like Boondockers welcome. How could we unite all these churches so we could attack this problem?

I’m with you on the glut of RVs. Last year we had family members quarantine in our travel trailer. This year we will not travel til near the end of the year. I can’t believe people bought without knowing what they are doing. I researched for over a year before we bought our first. We were long time tent campers

  • @mhspear
    @mhspear 3 ปีที่แล้ว

we bought used before covid. Several years in the looking, but we had specifics we wanted. We weren't looking for "camping" but living. So while waiting for hubby to retire we are adjusting fifth wheel for ourselves, I.E....getting rid of rv finishes, carpet, adjusting batteries and electrical. We are nerds and needed space for our puters, every item we put in there has to be forever. We own our base camp, planning to boondock down south in winter....yeh I know we'll join the herds of snowbirds, but for us...it just works. We actually see a lot more class a's and fifth wheels on road this year, our local camping world and other dealers have inventory, but doesn't seem a lot more than usual years. As we drive around we see plenty of open spots in local camp grounds, we are a big destination vacation area and tourism supports our local economy. People should take time to research before they buy, but I'll probably not live long enough to see it. If you're set up with good tanks and solar there are lots of places, if you're long like we are, truck and rv push 60ft or so, you're gonna be limited. Tho I noticed this year our national park camp ground has several 80' slots. People using said a lot of shade so I guess solar is a pain. People need education before they buy something as expensive as any kind of rv.

I am expecting there will be a lot of Rvs for sale as well. My husband and I were in the market this year but realized the cost was too high without discounts so are holding out until the market is more reasonable. We realize the folks that purchased thinking RVing sounds great but didn’t research will be selling next year. Also the RV manufactures have amped up production and the market will eventually drop which will allow for discounting again which is when we will buy.

I think a number of used RV sales will be related to the poor build quality. A lot of the new RVs spend their first months getting repairs. Those new to the RV community are extremely frustrated learning that warranty work on an RV isn’t as easy as with a car.

My wife and I bought a 2016 Winnebago 36’ class A as a full time “home”. Sold our house & hit the road 2 1/2 years ago.
Volunteering at a camp in FL during the winter and visiting the family and friends during the summer.
Due to health concerns, we’re considering a park model or a mobile home. Is there anyway you can recommend someone who deals with selling a RV for owners that’s trustworthy and reasonable for both parties?

I think many predicting the coming glut of RV units on the market are overlooking some of the key reasons that RVing has appealed to so many new buyers. I think Covid played only a small role. People are wanting to avoid the big cities. Weekend jaunts and family vacations in big cities have become less enticing with the recent violent riots and protests that we’ve all watched over the last year. Likewise, even airline travel has become risky with outrageous inflight brawls. After watching enough of that, RVing seems much safer and more relaxing. But I must add that, as RV newbies, it’s a little discouraging to hear all of the long-timers criticizing anyone who has chosen to join the RV world during this time, while also assuming that new buyers have made terrible financial decisions. It may cost more for someone to get started now, but how can you assume everyone of us is going to be “upside down” or desperate to sell but won’t be able to? Do you somehow have insight into every buyer’s finances? When I hear former salespeople make statements like that, I know why they are “former”. Every person who bought a new RV during this time negotiated a price that they found acceptable in return for the value they saw in owning an RV. That price didn’t have to be acceptable to anyone else. Lighten up, people!

With regard to people scalping camping reservations, wouldn’t it be as simple as the campgrounds checking the name of who made the reservation?. You show an ID when you check in and it has to match the reservation.
