La chica que canta “Un Bel Di” de Butterfly tiene la voz súper afuera, pero claro, escuela de Kraus, escuela perfecta, la misma maestría que tuvo al cantar “Celeste Aïda”, es un aria que canta como Kraus, no busca ser Del Mónaco o Corelli (como muchos que son ligeros y ahuecan el pecho para hacer sonar más oscura la voz), Kraus fue una voz increíble, posiblemente una de las más perfectas de la historia.

A. He is demonstrating and B. subjective abstract images work for lots of singers, and even though he talks about piu ciaro, he does get a more released sound from crazy Butterfly singer He's trying to get them to raise their soft palates and roll their sound up from a released jaw, using images and vowels to help them. The enor is execrable! Don't know how he managed to get a place singing in this class.

Who advised that tenor in the blue sweater to sing perhaps the most difficult and demanding Verdi tenor aria??? These young singers need several several years of singing art songs and practicing scales before they move on up to the demanding repetoire. Cutting corners in training only leads to more issues later on and bad habits.

That is a baritone aria in French. And he's right. The baritone was singing in the back of his throat. He wasn't sliding into his head voice. Kraus was right.

Le pasó que NO entendió bien lo que Kraus le dice...y si lo entendió no pudo realizarlo porque no es facil. Lo que hizo el maestro fue ilustrarle con su voz lo que le estaba pidiendo que hiciera. No hay mejor manera de aprender que por medio del ejemplo practico.

Kraus asking him to do that was like asking a dog to do it, though the dog would likely sound more pleasant, with whatever noises it made.

e perché scusa? Non si dovrebbe mai umiliare un ragazzo che sta cercando di imparare qualcosa. è troppo facile insegnare a chi vocalmente è già messo a posto. Il difficile arriva quando devi insegnare a chi ha una voce bloccata come in questo caso. Al massimo dovrebbe cacciare a pedate l'insegnante di quel ragazzo.

Beim Tenor zeigt sich dann sehr deutlich der generell große Nachteil der einseitigen Vordersitzfixierung der Stimme durch Resonanz- und somit Stimmblockaden in der Höhe. Kraus selbst hat großes Glück, dass er nicht auf einseitige Vordersitzfixierung der Stimme geprägt ist und deshalb immer von früher her genauso nach hinten öffnet, wie er nach Vorne fixiert. Er bemerkt aber die Einseitigkeit nicht bei Sängern und somit kickst in dem Fall der Tenor. Die Frauenstimmen haben Glück, dass sie aus der Tiefe schon mit Kopfresonanz mischen. Nur das verhindert bei ihnen Kickser. Das ist kontraproduktiver Gesangsunterricht!!!

De acuerdo. Si llegó a una clase magistral es porque el chico ya tenía fundamentos técnicos vocales. Con una mejor instrucción, estoy segurísimo que el muchacho podía ser un barítono, tenía la voz, la afinación e incluso la colocación. Un barítono bien instruido puede llegar al La o al Si B con un conocimiento de la técnica del paso de la voz. No toda persona puede obtener resultados con la técnica de la voz en la máscara.

The danger with people who do what they do so naturally, and in such an idiosincratic way, is that they say it the way they feel it, wihtout giving context.
I can understand what he means when he says that they are darkening too much, or letting it drop down the throat, but I fear that more often than not Kraus gave those he was teaching the impulse to sing an open passagio, rathar than a vibrant steely forward sound, which is what I hope he mmeant.

Er erklärt genau das Falsche. Dieser hohe Ansatz möglichst noch mit Kraft geht nur, wenn die Stimme richtig geöffnet ist.
Und dann erklärt er nichts, sondern demonstriert nur und lässt sich beklatschen. Genau so wie ein Unterricht nicht sein soll.
Außerdem war er bekannt für seinen näselnden Klang, das ist Geschmackssache.

@@jesusmunoz2400 pretty much the same thing. There's always gonna be some nasality if you sing in the mask, wherever you try to place the sound (cheek bones, forehead etc). He'd telling them "think higher think higher" but higher than the jaw it's the nose!

I've understood that it doesn't refer to nasality at all, but that, as there's actually more space in the back and top of the pharynx (high and horizontally expanded velum) the propioceptions of high harmonics gives a sensation of vibration in the face, because of sympathetic vibrations. Is the same as Volpi means when he says that, if one wants to sing a good EE vowel it should be inside an AH vowel, it's the same space configuration. That's why Kraus insists to his students to go towards a more bright (chiaro) AH, instead of an arrotondamento that could be not well done if it involves closing horizontally the pharynx. Nasality could happen if, by trying to attempt this same thing, you lower even a bit the velum and, to help getting high harmonics, you kill your lower harmonics by closing even more horizontally your pharynx, and changing squillo for twang. That's what JDF does. In the voice, those minimum changes make the whole difference.
