- The Gili Islands in Indonesia are famous but most people only know Gili T the party island. But I loved the chill vibes of Gili Air and the best beaches on Gili Meno.

If you've never heard of The Gilis they are coral islands off the coast of Lombok Indonesia. It's an easy ferry ride from Bali or a 5 minute local ferry costing on 18000 IDR from Lombok. As soon as I arrived in Gili Air I knew it would be amazing and immediately booked extra days. They are known for the best places are for diving and snorkeling but really you can also just laze around and take it easy. After a few days relaxing I went on a snorkeling tour that included stops in Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno.
While everyone wants to see the beaches in Bali, I must say they have nothing on the Gili Islands, I thought I was in the Caribbean or Maldives, they were that gorgeous.

I have not been there except when the boat stopped to pick up some people on our way back to Lombok from Gili Trawangan. But I am going to make it a point to go to Gili Air next time.
As an American, I don't much like their food. I did at first, then it got old fast. Didn't like having rice 2 or 3 times a day. Nasi Campur got boring fast for me. But the Mangosteens, Dragonfruit and Rambutan were amazing. I really miss them. Thanks for posting the video. Brought back some good memories.
Oh you’re so welcome. And there are lots of western spots there too, but Alan is Indonesian and I write about traditional food so we mostly eat local food 😊
We will be there next week ! Was there last July just after reopening from Covid. Hoping the weather won’t be too rainy. 🤞🤞🤞Think u did a great job representing the island.

Got chills just to see pictures ! went there because I won 1 week in the ocean 5 hotel with free padi certification and 3 day in a private villa in the center of the island (yeah not kidding, luckiest night of my life) that i won at a bingo in Ubud 😅 and... I fell in love, the ocean 5's team almost got me to stay with them to become a diving instructor, this place is something special, the community is awesome, everybody know each other, local and tourist are open, lovely... I've been to many places in many countries, this one is THE one, if one day I feel depress, I definitely move there. I didn't try Travagan but I went to Meno as well (yeah I won a divin session with Mantas in Meno that same night too, like I said "luckiest" 😅) but definitely difficult to be better than Gili Air

Ahh if you have an opportunity to go back I loved Gili Air and it was so cheap
I was just in Indonesia and I went to almost every island and gili air was by far my favorite!
What other islands did you visit?
Indonesia has 17k islands in total and 6k inhabited islands. Do you mean you visited all 17K islands 🥴 or you visited the biggest islands?

@@ayngelina Good news. If you go to Kalimantan you can see native animals that come from Kalimantan. such as OrangUtans, Bekantan(Gold monkey) Pesut (freshwater dolphins) and many other species. There are also tours that can spoil the eye
any special foods you recommend I try?

Many episodic cases of DENGUE in LOMBOK . My girlfriend caught dengue sickness in GILIS . We went in emergency to hospital , and after 3 days , and confirmation of Dengue ,
we came back to Europe .
We enjoyed totally 8 days in Lombok . 3 days in Sengigi , 5 days in Gili , the fifth day she had fever , and 3 days in hospital .and finish .
Our plan was 1 full month .
She caught dengue in sengigi , just before Gili .

So we stayed on Gili Air, it’s a ten minute boat ride from Lombok on a public boat. Once you get to the island there are lots of tour agencies and different tours you can take. Oddly enough the one close to the port was the best deal in terms of how many people were on the boat, which I think is important to ask. But the prices are pretty standard with a bit of room to negotiate but not much.
Next exploring to, skywalk Senayan park of Jakarta city, skywalk Centeral park Neo Soho, mount Rinjani Lombok, mount Bromo East Java,raja Ampat Papua, Toraja Sulawesi,lake Toba Samosir north Sumatra,bukit Lawang see orang utan north Sumatra and labuan bajo komodo dragon island in Flores INDONESIAN.thanks for coming here,I hope you're happy here👍🇮🇩🙏

@@ayngelina absolutely.. beyond words. Even Bali when I visit it in early 90ish is really different than what it is now
When people say Lombok is what Bali was 25 years ago do you think that’s true? Because when I was in Kuta I thought there’s no way this was all just farmland 25 years ago and is now a mess of tattoo shops, convenience stores and traffic jams.
This is my first trip to bali, after 6 days in ubud, we are thinking of going to Gili air, its me and my daughter, and she is 11. do you reccomend this bungalow with children? or should I up the price a little? how do we get to that place when we arrive from boat? and how many days? we are not in a hurry :)
Everything on the island is max 20 minutes walk and the horse carriages can take you. This is like a motel type area with a pool but they do have bigger rooms so it depends on what your daughter wants to do. We spent a lot of time exploring the island and didn’t really hang out at the hotel a lot but if you think she needs a big pool there are other spots too.

I hear it’s eat go get food poisoning, how did you avoid any food related problems?
I only eat local food in places that are busy.
Spent last Dec/Jan in Indonesia including a week on Gili Air - ate in all kinds of places from slick resto in glitzy malls to street food to places with packed earth floors thatched roof and waiters who were barefoot - Never got sick once. The thing to be conscious of is the water. Avoid drinking tap water - always drink bottled water - in remote areas don’t get ice in your beverages.
gili air is wonderful for rest and relaxation but the beaches of gili are not blue and clear. they are murkey - i stayed for 2 months and so it’s not a matter of the way or wind or rain
it’s not hawaii for sure but its so low cost so it’s good for that type of trip on a rugged infrastructure place - budget vacation to just relax - the nicest people
All coastal living depends on the wind, air and currents but when I was there the colour was lovely.

Just back from all the Gillis and Lombok. Those islands are highly overrated.

I totally agree. I am also a bit disappointed. The natural beauty of the island is there, but something just does not add up. :/.
My biggest dissapointment were the islands around bali. I thought it would be thailand vibes but i was wrong.
It’s a nice place Asia, but those roosters …… they can ruin vacation !!!!!
I’ve spent so much time in Latin America I never even hear the roosters anymore 🤣
