    I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone else say the PDK is more engaging than the 6 SPD. A touch faster on some tracks -yes, but more engaging? not in this lifetime unless “more like a video game” is someones idea of engaging. Otherwise great video of two amazing rides

      I have driven a 992 GT3 manual and PDK at length. I have also filmed with a 718 GT4 manual and PDK at length. I also share a 718 Spyder PDK with my brother. I can assure you , that if you drive back to back, you will find the PDK better suited to the engine and chassis. I prefer a manual gearbox on earlier models, and I love the manual gearbox on my 997 GT3 RS.

      @@888mf4 I’ve owned Porsches with both PDK and MT and have found PDK boring after a few hours. It is certainly a great transmission technically, maybe the best double clutch available, but more engaging than the sublime 6 Spd? Unless we have a different understanding of the word engagement, I just don’t see it. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why some would prefer PDK over the 6 Spd. And yes, in the GT4/Spyder the shorter gearing of the PDK compared to the 6spd is arguably more optimal but in an ever more digitized world, the MT connects me to the car in a way no automatic can. Anyway, I certainly respect your impression and will subscribe to your excellent channel

    at the end it depends on choices and choices are preferences: i for one hate it when a typical model like a GT3 goes through changes to .1 or .2 for me i don't look for perfect handling GT3 i would rather sacrifice a little bit of that with the 4RS and have everything joyful rather than time attacking + i love rear mid-engine, compact feel and appeal, has a clear raw character and it challenges me to drive rather it drives itself and corrects me street or track + it wouldn't have revisions... this is it
    The 4RS will be remembered in Porsche Enthusiasts

    I think that the McPherson struts are the 718 GT4 RS 's Achilles heel and cause for more unsettled handling, even with a longer wheel base than the 992.1 GT3. Plus 255/35r20 on 9's and 305/30r20 on 11's and with 27 more BHP from a aftermarket exhaust system including 200 cell HJS catalytic converters(130 BHP per litre). These would be my three changes.

      @@888mf4 The front suspension isn't the issue. The issue is the REAR STRUT of the GT4 RS, while the GT3 has a multi-link. While the 992 front double wishbone makes for a grippier front, the rear suspension is where you make or break it for stability and confidence and in that area, the GT4 RS can't hang with a GT3

    Regarding the steel brake: I have tracked numerous Porsche on their Hockenheim facility and never experienced a single slight fading from the steel brakes. Only reason for me would be yellow calipers and a better bite at high temperatures. That's it. But to say the steel fades and is not as good, is not really true. Especially if you compare the pros and cons of both - especially considering price.

    • @888mf4
      @888mf4  ปีที่แล้ว

      Porsche themselves state that the PCCB are 50% lighter than the steel brakes, which is already a big weight advantage. Porsche also state that they are more effective when braking from high speed. These are facts from Porsche, not me.

    Just the video I wanted to see since I drive in mountains and not on the track. You mentioned your preference for PCCB over iron brakes on both cars and said the GT3 steers better. Do you feel the 17 kg lighter PCCB and 10 kg lighter magnesium wheels on the GT4RS would make the mountain driving experience in terms of steering feel, acceleration, braking, and ride that much better to make the extra cost worth it on the GT4RS?

    • @888mf4
      @888mf4  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great question. I think it will improve the steering as you have less unsprung mass, and of course you'll have more confidence under heavy braking. That said, I still think the suspension set up on the 992 GT3 is better and can't be matched by the GT4 RS.

Even if this is a track toy and you lose time w the manual, the main objective is to enjoy the ownership experience. Compete with your personal best and make progressively better ones.

    On another note: the GT3 has enough more trickery to be a superior machine (reflected on track times), agreed, but in terms of dynamics, balance, neutrality and forgiveness (the impression the 911 gives you will disappear fast in a snap unprovoked oversteer exacerbated in the wet...) I would bet on the GT4 for better handling from what I know from having driven previous generations of both. The GT4 superior rawness does the rest. For the ones who can only afford one or the other (rather than both...) the differential decision would be on usage frequency: occasional - the GT4 / frequent - the GT3. The GT4 is too raw for a regular use

    @4:06... allowing you to focus on the driving and not having to change gears..... Huh??? Maybe something you are not aware of: THE DRIVING IS CHANGING GEARS. You can leave that PDK for the one's that cannot drive properly with manual gearbox.

      I just purchased a manual 718 Spyder as I like changing gears. However, when you’re driving a car along mountain roads at 80%, it helps to keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times and focus on the road, brakes, motorcycles!!

      Congrats on your purchase.
      However on a Mountain road is exactly where the driving is. And driving is changing gears. Like in a motorcycle changing gears doesn't interfere with the attention to your surroundings. And if it does, one needs to get that PDK because one's certainly cannot drive manual.
      PDK is dead. No connection with the car and only good for the ones that cannot drive manuals or racing for sure.
      The ONLY argument for PDK is that it makes the car faster.
