Your absolutely right! As a matter of fact, I had one a little over a year ago when my colon failed. When I first started feeling some discomfort in my right side it was relatively mild so I just figured that I was a little backed up ( constipated ) again because I’ve always had that problem. But when my mom and I noticed that the pain was starting to get worse and worse my mom and I decided that at the very least I should go to the nearby urgent care clinic and get checked out. Which in my opinion is were divine intervention took over ( if if hadn’t happened already) because when the dr at the clinic couldn’t get a blood pressure reading he insisted on sending me to the er in ambulance immediately! Anyway long story short, I had become septic as a result of colon failure and the doctor (the one who treated me at the hospital)later told my parents that I came within 2 hours of not making it.
Jude Law is so gorgeous in this movie, and his acting, particularly with the children, is so natural, and the children are just so talented and adorable
Had it for years! I personally love listening to Iris and Jasper on a morning flight during takeoff and seeing the the morning sun over the clouds! So damn good
Seriously though there are at least 10 times in this movie when Kate Winslet blew me away. I heard her heart breaking at the beginning when the guy announced the engagement. I felt it.
Eli Wallach has a huge filmography, but when he died in 2014 I swear I immediately thought about his Arthur Abbott character. I really think he should have won an Academy Award for his role, he was so good in portraying such a sweet, weak yet strong old fashioned man. To me that character was real, and we should all have a person like that in our lives. Thank you Eli, RIP.
I love the scene when Kate tells Jack she actually knows what he feels like and proceeds to uplift him by being so pathetic and he says Damn! You need this more then I do, the vodka, and he proceeds to uplift her with some Christmas fettuccine. Brilliant acting by both.
For those of us who love the pure rom-com of the 80s and the 90s and the early 2000s there is a definite sadness in realizing that this era is closing or already closed. Nancy Meyer, the Beloved Nora Ephron who is already gone, James Brooks who I don't think is making movies anymore, Gary and Penny Marshall who are both gone, Rob Reiner... these are the really fabulous romantic storytellers and they're just not making these movies anymore, and the gaping hole that has been left is so obvious it just breaks my heart because the rom-coms of today's generation are vulgar, they're not intelligently written but rather formulaic and it's just a great loss not having these people making movies anymore.
The best ones involve transatlantic relationships as in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually, The Holiday and Notting Hill. And the Merchant Ivory ones are nearly always set in Primrose Hill or the Cotswolds.
Agreeing with you completely... Nora Ephron's "You've Got Mail" is one of my favorite ones, I watch it at least once a year (around christmas) along with "The Holiday". Side note : totally in love with Arthur Abbot, he is a gem ! :D

My solution is watching British Period Drama most of the time. And I totally agree, the trailers of the current "romcoms" either give away the whole story or clearly suggest the relationships will be weird, not straightforward, people not being honest with each other etc.... Fortunately, Britain still keeps making new "old films" so there's always more to watch, and I haven't even gone through all the really old ones yet! :-) Who knows, maybe this strange time that we're living will make people want for such positive movies again...
One of my favorite film moments ever is when Cameron is breaking up with her guy. She says "just tell me honestly, did you sleep with her? The gardener looks at Ed and just with his eyes and one little head shakes is saying "No man, don't do it!" Well he does it and is sorry. I love that gardener's moment!
@@jow6845 I agree that Jack Black was badly miscast. Never in a million years could he be classified as an attractive, eligible man, and putting him as Kate Winslet's love interest was terribly wrong. He spoiled the whole film for me, even though all the other characters were perfectly cast.
I loved him in this film. It’s my favorite role of his. This character was meant to be the opposite of Kate’s love interest at home. Warm, funny, relatable, caring and charming, which he was on all counts.
Totally agree is incredible in this role. For me it is perfect for Iris they have a lot in common. They are made for each other. Since the first time you see each other, you can already tell that something jumps between the two. He composes a melody for him. I love that part. It does not have to do that it is attractive or it does not make you feel butterflies and makes you laugh for me it is perfect. It was made for Jack Black I can't imagine another.

My Favorite Christmas movie EV-ER!!! I had lived the scene when the British character runs into the lavish Los Angeles home and cannot believe her eyes and she has all of this to herself. She totally nailed the feeling when she jumps on that bed!! For me , it was my first medical travel assignment. It was at a hospital in Honolulu. Well, my appartment would not be readu in time so they put me up in a Waikiki Hotel. I was traveling alone, first time ever to Hawaii. I was in my mid forties. I arrived innthe hotel lobby a bit after 11pm. It was fine, i was tired but the city was still bustling with tourists and nite life. I guess it is a common practice, the hotel upgraded my room ( which I was not paying for in the first place) to the PENTHOUSE on the 14th floor. It was massive , as was the outside patio where ia reveled in the beautiful skyline. I knew not a soul in the entire state. The livingroom was larger than my own living room. I had no one to invite over to my pad. I just kept repeating outloud to myself “I’m in Hawaii”. It was an extraordinary solo experience for one nite, two days, and then my apartment was ready. Unexpected amazing experiences DO happen!

One of my favorites of all time. The final scene between Kate, Jack, and Eli gets me every time. I love that look of triumph from Eli followed by that "Thank You God" look from both Kate and Jack for New Years

I just go to netflix and rewatch the Iris and Miles part again and again. It very beautiful for me. Its very warm, cozy and happy life for me. And there are many people saying they hated Jack black as Miles. But i loved it. I guess i am an old soul.

Like so many others, this has become an all-time favourite of mine. It’s impossible to focus the accolades on any one of the actors as they are all so very, very talented and the comedy is so very natural yet laugh-out-loud funny. Please, Nancy Myers, don’t stop now. I did fall in love with Jack Black because of this film but the whole of it has me watching it time after time.
This film is just fabulous! Hans Zimmer should have been knighted for the film score. I managed to find the complete 56 soundtrack cd -words can’t describe the sheer brilliance of each and every track. I play it in the car, in my art room, at work and through headphones whilst walking the dogs, it is just incredible! And that cottage...oh wow, so gorgeous. The acorns hanging over the fireplace are so great, I had to paint some and hang them over ours lol . Such a shame it isn’t real.

I adored the storyline with Arthur. Iris/Miles was nice, but I love that her story was more about finding herself/taking control of her life and how Arthur helped her do that.
I watched so many times that I can't remember the number... And still Love It! The best cast and I love Amanda Woods and the fact that she isn't abble to cry - I can relate with that.

My absolute favorite Christmas film❤️ I watch it every year, usually on Christmas Eve and actually prefer to watch it by myself.. it’s such a bittersweet and personal film and I always feel like it’s telling a part of my own story so it’s always sort of cathartic to watch alone. I make a plate of fettuccine and have a glass of wine in honor of Iris and Miles Christmas Eve epiphany. Doesn’t hurt that the soundtrack is just *perfection.* 2006 was a very happy time of life for me..this movie was the cherry on top💕

The guys Jude and Jack Black are so met for these characters. Miles is funny and endearing to Kate. Jude made a wonderful dad the little girls were so natural. Too bad they didn't talk about the soundtrack. This is one of my favourite movies! Although I mostly skip Diaz's scenes on rewatch, Kate's are pure gold, especially the one when she understands the crushing devastation of unrequited love.

I love this film. the dialogue can be a bit cheesy in places though. One thing that elevates it is the musical score throughout. No one ever seems to mention the music in these films, and it is so important to the fabric of the whole thing. Was beautiful.
Watched this dozens of times since it's release. There is something for everyone with brilliant dialogue, amazing cast, fantastic sets and direction. It's now a classic and rightfully so.

For me is one of the top 10 best movies ever. The cast more than amazing, the plot so genuine, the script excellent written even the children was super natural and sweet with excellent performance. Bravo to all. I wish we had more movies like this!!!
The tiny country cottage of the film was erected in a field adjacent to one of our favourite walks, in Shere, near Guildford Surrey, England. For a good while there was a small sign pointing out the connection with the movie set, but it has gone now.
Some of the best actors and actresses I absolutely love this film,the women beautiful and intelligent jack Black is brilliant and jude law has so much charisma he's gorgeous. The whole film is brilliant and the old guy is so lovely he's like everyone's grandpa ❤

I watch this movie all year round...not just only at Christmas because it's timeless. You would never put Jack Black with this type of film, and person he portrays, but he is perfect. And the chemistry between he and Kate is magical and perfect, and a joy to behold. I've seen it maybe 50 to 60 times. All the time....💖💖💖. It's my go to movie of all time...
I’m here in September 2024 thanks to my recommendation feed. A little too early but I don’t care. I discovered The Holiday almost two years ago. I felt in the mood for some modern holiday cheer. This is a surprisingly funny, sweet sentimental film. But in terms of Nancy Meyers filmography, my heart belongs forever to The Parent Trap.

It’s impossible to focus the accolades on any one of the actors as they are all so very, very talented and the comedy is so very natural yet laugh-out-loud funny. Please, Nancy Myers, don’t stop now. I did fall in love with Jack Black because of this film but the whole of it has me watching it time after time.
Nancy Myers is a gift. She has that wonderful way of capturing every emotion.
This film is just fabulous! Hans Zimmer should have been knighted for the film score. I managed to find the complete 56 soundtrack cd -words can’t describe the sheer brilliance of each and every track. I play it in the car, in my art room, at work and through headphones whilst walking the dogs, it is just incredible! And that cottage...oh wow, so gorgeous. The acorns hanging over the fireplace are so great, I had to paint some and hang them over ours lol . Such a shame it isn’t real.
This movie is EVERYTHING!!! It's like my icecream of Christmas movies! All of the elements and caliber of the different flavored characters..... C'EST MAGNIFIQUE! Love Lady Nancy's work! Thank you to Netflix and absolutely love this movie. I actually lost count how many times I watched it. Great story, so much relatable and wonderful cast. Can't believe it was realised on 2006! I just got know it now 2020!! Anyhow enjoy every bit of it....

I adored the storyline with Arthur. Iris/Miles was nice, but I love that her story was more about finding herself/taking control of her life and how Arthur helped her do that.

My sister said she had a great film for us to enjoy, then was so amused that I knew all the dialogue, word for word.
I watched so many times that I can't remember the number... And still Love It! The best cast and I love Amanda Woods and the fact that she isn't abble to cry - I can relate with that.

My absolute favorite Christmas film❤️ I watch it every year, usually on Christmas Eve and actually prefer to watch it by myself.. it’s such a bittersweet and personal film and I always feel like it’s telling a part of my own story so it’s always sort of cathartic to watch alone. I make a plate of fettuccine and have a glass of wine in honor of Iris and Miles Christmas Eve epiphany. Doesn’t hurt that the soundtrack is just *perfection.*

The guys Jude and Jack Black are so met for these characters. Miles is funny and endearing to Kate. Jude made a wonderful dad the little girls were so natural.

This is one of my favourite movies! Although I mostly skip Diaz's scenes on rewatch, Kate's are pure gold, especially the one when she understands the crushing devastation of unrequited love.

I love this film. the dialogue can be a bit cheesy in places though. One thing that elevates it is the musical score throughout. No one ever seems to mention the music in these films, and it is so important to the fabric of the whole thing. Was beautiful.

For me is one of the top 10 best movies ever. The cast more than amazing, the plot so genuine, the script excellent written even the children was super natural and sweet with excellent performance.

That’s one thing I love to do here after I watch a movie.
The tiny country cottage of the film was erected in a field adjacent to one of our favourite walks, in Shere, near Guildford Surrey, England. For a good while there was a small sign pointing out the connection with the movie set, but it has gone now.
Some of the best actors and actresses I absolutely love this film,the women beautiful and intelligent jack Black is brilliant and jude law has so much charisma he's gorgeous. The whole film is brilliant and the old guy is so lovely he's like everyone's grandpa ❤

Yeah I watch this every year at least once. There was so much heart in this film, a true and magical escape. I wish films were like this today. The romcoms are just lacking heart. The thing that makes them magic.

I never understand that tendency for films set at Christmas to be categorised as Christmas films, I watch this one all year round.
I think this has surpassed Love Actually and is now my favourite Christmas film. Its just very sweet and charming.

I’m here in September 2024 thanks to my recommendation feed. A little too early but I don’t care. I discovered The Holiday almost two years ago. I felt in the mood for some modern holiday cheer. This is a surprisingly funny, sweet sentimental film. But in terms of Nancy Meyers filmography, my heart belongs forever to The Parent Trap.
This movie I watch every Christmas. And have my daughter hooked on it as well by now. Simply love it. It’s a fun part of this time of the year.
