PBI Battle Report: Somewhere in Malaya | Storm of Steel Wargaming

PBI is a WW2 company level game by Peter Pig played on a grid. The rules are quite simple and make for a fast play game that is a lot of fun. In this video I try out a scenario based in Malaya 1942 with Japanese infantry attacking a force of Ghurkhas.

Glad you enjoyed it. Grids are a great way of gaming, there's no arguments about where something is on the tabletop, you don't need measuring tapes, so much to like!

Love PBI!!! Use it in preference to any other WWII rules. You don't want to use tanks! They are a bloody nuisance to everybody, both to the "owning" side and the "enemy". You'll use too many of your infantry protecting the tanks.

It's a good game, I really enjoyed it, but then I like Square Bashing a lot anyway. Noted about the tanks!

@@StormofSteelWargaming easy is good when you're old like me only trouble is I've got so much stuff going on and I'm behind in so many unplayed games and unbuilt miniatures... Heck the only WW2 figures/troops I've got are 3 Falschimjaeger motorcyclists built n another 3 not touched. Was going to use them for Gaslands...

The rules don't look ugly to me… I prefer black and white text over the full colour "magazine style" rulebooks popular these days as the former is much easier for me to read!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, to me they look dated and not very attractive.

As I own the PDF versions, plain black and white text is welcome -it's a huge amount to print out. Enjoy many WWII rule sets; this one is comprehensive, mindful of space available, and has some interesting mechanics. One very small example is the added cost to leave cover (vs. to enter it) - not seen that in any rule set before but is quite logical from an infantryman's standpoint.

@@oblomovbruce9979 you're welcome. As I said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Having it black and white for printing is one thing, but even the font choice is ugly IMO. It just looks cheap. But that beside, it is an excellent game with lots to like in there.

So opportunity fire when being assaulted but no opportunity fire when enemy units move into (clear) terrain 1 square away? think I'd house rule that.
