  • In this video I show you how I installed cabinet lighting using LED light strips. It was pretty easy to do and only requires a few tools. Using the soldeless connections makes it super easy for pretty much anyone to wire it up.

      @@DIYReid or Andy Espenan what was the other kind of wire that you used that went through the cabinets? Do u need anything else to hook it up to be able to jump it like 4 ft beside what you showed in the video? I also have lights on top of the cabinets, and did it with no outlet at all. I actually had to run an extension cord right along the seam of the cabinet where no one sees it all the way to the outlet behind the fridge. At the end of the cord I plugged a smart outlet and have them so they will automatically go on and off at certain times. They could also be turn on or off using Alexa. I really love the vibe it gives.

    Holy shit I have the same back splash and white cabinets the only thing I have different is the color granite counter tops haha . Your window fridge stove and microwave are the exact same layout as mine like exactly the same . I thought of doing this with hue lights and for the cabinets that are separate on the end of the window I’d just add the hue stand alone lamp although I already have hardwired lights under the cabinets so idk it’s a tuff decision. I actually thought they’d be the round lights so I literally thought I’d have to redesign the bottom of the top cupboards just to hide the round lights 😅 that would’ve been way too over complicated. I put RGB LEDs on the top of my new cabinets and just use the remote to turn them off and on. My wife wasn’t impressed with the colors, until she saw them being changed. Now, I will go in the kitchen and she will be sitting at the breakfast bar drinking a glass of wine with the room lights out and the LEDs on the color of the day! Now I have to add more to the bottom. I have been trying some rechargeable ones, but the motion sensors are not working correctly, so a better solution is needed. If anyone is installing new cabinets, I suggest having wiring done during the install, just in case you want to add them later.

      would be in parallel. if in series, think old Christmas tree lights. if one light is out, they all are out.. In parallel, all lights between the plug and the last one are then just "tapped off" the power run. :)

    • @illestofdemall13
      @illestofdemall13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's parallel. They are made to be connected and wired in parallel. Series would mean connecting your positive to one end of the LED tape and connecting the negative to the other end. In a series circuit, if one bulb fails, it will make the whole section turn off since the positive and negative have both been broken by the failure of that bulb's filament.

    Very helpful and thanks for sharing. Question: I would use white lighting 90% of the time; however, thinking it would be a nice "option" to be able to change colors once in awhile. Is the color light able to look white with a setting and would you recommend the color lights you provided link to in your post?

      Trust me, you don't need the RGBs. You already said, "white 90%." Every time I buy an appliance I think, "oh, nice option" and I NEVER USE IT!
      The dedicated white LEDs are a much better way to go, color wise, intensity wise, etc.

    This looks great, but I'd do what I did and leave the wiring but tear out the LED strips and transformers and spend a few hundred bucks and get the more powerful ones. One thing I am not clear about is how you ran 110v from existing socket and I presume an already finished backsplash on the backside of the wall. Think you said using fishtape or golden rod fiberglass rods. Was it just luck you didn't hit anything else in the 110v extention above the cabinets.
    When (and they will) start to come unglued if nothing else but gravity acting on them, use Weldwood Contact cement. Blue tape about 1/2" wide gap, brush on both light strip and the 1/2" wide gap between the two rows of blue tape. Use cheap Paint brush on contact cement.. let dry to touch, then stick um on. They'll never come off easily. Don't confuse Weldwood Contact Cement with Rubber Cement.

      In a simple two wire strip all the leds are wired in parallel. Each led is connected to the plus and minus side. if you cut the strip and then and put it back together, they'll still be in parallel. When leds or any bulb are wired in series (which is one path) if one bulb burns out, they all go out.
