What a song. I have the privilege of growing up in the same town he lived in. What a performer. A National treasure. Possibly the best songwriter and live performer in history.

Nebraska is, in my opinion, his best album.

Bruce sang so beautifully in this concert. His tender voice delivers the tragic stories in a way that makes me cry.

The stories he tells about the songs he writes put them into such compelling context.

This hits home. I was born in central Nebraska about two years old when Charles Starkweather and his girl traveled west about twenty miles above us before he got busted in Douglas Wyoming. Talk about fate.

That’s incredible man. I grew up swimming in the same river as Bruce. I listen to the river, where me and my brother drive to with our sweethearts as teens. Nothing like a song you actually lived or understand on a life level.

Yeah, please upload Brilliant Disguise if you have it! I'd never heard an acoustic Brilliant Disguise before I heard the recordings from these two shows. Thanks for putting these up!

I think what you are looking for is the spoken intro to The River on the Live 1975-85 album.

    • @Toriv-dq3dt
      @Toriv-dq3dt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It's the spoken part of The River on the lives '75-85. (He used to go stand in a phone booth for hours because his dad hated him and wanted him out of the house)

My favorite version of my favorite Springsteen tune. It's too bad that he skips a verse though:
"The jury brought in a guilty verdict and the judge he sentenced me to death
Midnight in a prison storeroom with leather straps across my chest"
    Still great though.

  • @josephmillermusic

This song is about a 50's Spree killer named Charels Starkweather Who Killed 11 people in Nabraska with his 14 year old girlfriend.

The movie Badlands is also about that and that's where the Baton thing at the start comes from.

Not to be horrible or anything, but when Bruce sang in Olso at the anniversary of Utøya massacre last year, thought he might have sung this one - of course he didn't.

First off I'm a Bruce fan and I think The "Nebraska" album is by and large a masterpiece "My Father's House " par example
But this song is as awful as Dylan romanticizing "Crazy" Joe Gallo. Nothing to empathize with. They were murders plain and simple
