Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, it did! Simply superb engineering, hand in hand with camera and editing work, not a second wasted but every detail captured. A joy to watch and marvel at.
Dang Paul, that is one NICE seatpost, great, simple design, executed with so much skill and precision, beautiful piece of functional art. Also, the guy who made the saddle, definitely knows what he's doing, beautiful piece of functional art again.
The Allen Millyard shout out made me smile, i have followed you both for years. I am convinced that you must share a common ancestry with your talents or as some might say engineering alchemy 😁. Always enjoyable to watch and learn.
Alan M. cuts EVERYTHING with a hacksaw. He makes V engines and six cylinders - crazy stuff - and they run!!! And he makes amazing jigs to align and time the cranks.
This is a crazy good video. It's just a seat post, that has been completely re-imagined, designed and made in one video. And absolutely, expertly made as well. I agree that the modern style seat post would not look right on the giraffe bike. This looks right. Thanks Mitch for videoing all this so expertly.
I think my favorite part is that you picture the object in three dimensions and work out the details while you’re lying in bed late at night so that by morning you can sketch it out and know exactly how to go about it. And then your machining experience allows you to streamline the process. And the result is art.
I love that you're going with Nickel plating! So many ppl who do restorations or old school period builds like this incorrectly Chrome plate everything when the vast majority of plating back in those days was actually Nickel. That and a Nickel finish just looks so much cooler than Chrome does. 👍👍
Fantastic seat and top notch seat post! Any tips, tricks or methods to remove a seized one from one a frame? I’ve got a battle worn (93ish) expresso dying to be ridden by a Brit in Vancouver before being taken home🇬🇧 haha. Love the videos!
Thanks BG. Try penetrating oil. Get the frame upside down and squirt through the seat tube bottle bosses. You may have to use heat, which will probably hurt the paint. And "careful" force in the right amount. Good luck!
I do like your taste in seats. I too had wondered what i could do about a seat with some suspension. I had already just put one of those old school banana seats and sissy bar posts because i wanted a bigger seat, also for some storage area underneath the seat. Still not sure what ill settle for, but i like watching your videos and i think you have some really good ideas. Thank you Paul and Mitch for the videos 😊
I find the inexpensive 5C square/hex blocks are a bunch easier to use than setting up the rotary table for small stuff like the bolt heads. An old-school four-point wrench would be a sweet accessory to make for such a nice post.
Hey Paul & Mitch, I totally agree with @thmawhirt. Paul, your design work is exquisite. Then comes your execution. Stunning. It's such a joy to watch each episode. And Mitch, your camera work is top notch. OK, I don't think you can top this one..(and then you do!)
H Paul nice saddle an nice job on the stem. I hard you say about Alen Millyard you wont to see the Norton he's rebuilding at the moment its a V8 engine from factory what a way to build a bike crazy✌
Thanks. I think the angle was 22 degrees. Setting the compound was a bit of eyeball, but I used the same setting for inside and outside cones.... Perfect Match...
Great stuff Paul, cant believe you just made that seatpost more or less by eye. It's a work of art, and functional too. Thanks for the video. What is the bike in the shop with the polished rims & red tyres, i am intrigued, i think you put these things in the background to keep us looking 😊
Impressive. That would make a great seatpost for either of my Moulton AM7s and a stretch version would be good for a Schwinn Runabout which I no longer have. I didn't know that a RapidTap could be used like that so Thanks for that gem. Also, what the hell with the price of bronze? You'd think Copper, Brass AND Gold!
I must admit that I did not think those cone angles would help in any way, they just looked far to steep. Anyway the end result certainly seemed good, the seat seemed to be locked into position very well, the whole setup looks great too!
Had to laugh about laying in bed thinking about seat posts.. I think most people get a brain wave while waiting for sleep. Keep a pen and paper by the bed or its gone in the morning.
Love watching. That came out spectacular :) The guy who is doing the leather work also is a true tradesman as well. I too admire Allen Millyard The man can Hack saw in a straight line better than any one ive met lol

Thank you very much. Very nice comments...
Great crafting!
Glad to see your happy face when you are working on it.
Thank you...
Really nice!
Thank you much!!
Always awed by your skill and artistry! Seat is stunning and the engineering of the post does it justice! Go Paul and Mitch, keep moving forward!
Thank you very much. We will try to make our channel last!
Paul this is beautiful work, a super long one of these would look amazing on a brompton!
Thanks, you are probably correct!
Awesome you are a master. I revere your imagination and skill. Thank you so much
Well that's a very nice compliment... Thank you!!
Dang Paul, that is one NICE seatpost, great, simple design, executed with so much skill and precision, beautiful piece of functional art. Also, the guy who made the saddle, definitely knows what he's doing, beautiful piece of functional art again.

Excellent !!!!
Thanks Ray!
That turned out really nice. I really like the square headed bolt.
A beautiful post for the most comfortable seat that ever graced a bike. Paul you are one in a million. thank you
Love the free hand lathe work!! We had to do alot of that in die sinking 😊
Thank you. I have had some practice...
Brilliant details and an amazing result⭐️⭐️⭐️I like the combination of seat and seat post very much and your drawings are awesome👍🏻😎
Thank you very much!
@@paulbrodie you’re very welcome!
That seat is pretty awesome!
Greg Hunt is very good at what he does!

Thanks, maybe I will meet Allen one day?
19:35 between yourself and Allen Millyard, you are THE ONLY TWO with all the knowledge. All the knowledge. 💪💪👏👏👏
Thank you very much. Appreciate your comments!
Yep and it’s time for another collaboration in that case. Bring it on.
Yes, and we are 9000 miles apart...
such a beautiful thing!
Thank you...
A piece of art... That's amazing ❤
Thank you Gabrielle!
Alan M. cuts EVERYTHING with a hacksaw. He makes V engines and six cylinders - crazy stuff - and they run!!! And he makes amazing jigs to align and time the cranks.
Yes, I have watched!
You sir, are a true craftsman! I enjoy watching you do your thing each week. Fantastic!!!
Thank you John. Appreciate your comments...
Mr. Brodi,,so good seeing you back to health,,you've been a great encouragement to me ,,thank you kind sir,,many blessings to you and ,mitch..

Very nice comments, thank you very much! It did take 2 days to make and film..
Great crafting!
Glad to see your happy face when you are working on it.

What a masterclass of design and machining!
Very kind of you.. Thanks!!
Brilliant 👏
Thank you Keith..

Make no mistake Paul, you are absolutely right up there with Alan in skill and engineering royalty. Cheers from down under.
Thank you Damien.. You are very kind...
Fantastic!!! Love the way the roundness of the clamps match the circular springs.

Thanks. I think that chrome plating really started in the 1920s with a car bumper...
Art in the making, filming and presenting. Best wishes, Dean.
What a simple but elegant design for that seat mount. Great job on that mount and nice shout out to Allen.
Thanks Tom. Cheers!
Absolutely love your videos. Seeing a work of art come together is a privilege.
Perfection as usual Paul 👌 , great camera work from Mitch 👌
Cheers Chris
Thanks Chris. Big Greetings to Australia...

Paul the seat post bracket was brilliant.
Pleasure watching a craftsman at work👍
Now that is the sweetest seatpost I've ever laid my eyes on 👍👍😎👍👍
Thanks Joell...
Super neat seat ,,, love the wee tab for holding the drill when drilling offsets , very very tidy.
Brilliant lathe work 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you much...
Awesome workmanship, thanks for sharing your videos. 👍
Thank you very much.
Great work Paul!
Really great freehand turning Paul..
Thank you Jack!
I bet he’s really good with an Etch-A-Sketch.
Beautiful!
Damn Third! Keep up the good work Paul & Mitch
Thank you...
Most definitely ,,,,,you shine more than the seat post,,,,c😊ongratulations MR Brodie ,,, job well done
Simple....it's a Brodie
Thanks for sharing
Cheers
What a beautiful project, thanks for sharing with us Paul! Loving the updates from the UK.

Another great video. The skill and knowledge of making quality items by hand is diminishing fast. Looking forward to the next one👌
Thank you Mitch and Paul. These vids are always over too soon.
Thanks Don... :)
Nice...very nice! Gonna look suitably "period correct"

Yes, Allan Milyard ❤
Amazing.
that's a cool looking seat
H Paul nice saddle an nice job on the stem. I hard you say about Alen Millyard you wont to see the Norton he's rebuilding at the moment its a V8 engine from factory what a way to build a bike crazy✌
Elegant.
High Class work !!!
satisfying, thank you.
beautiful work
Definitely a bit of Steampunk going on there. The Giraffe's rider will need goggles and an over-sized pocketvwatch. 😄
The bike is too small for even a medium sized rider...
Very nice!
Awesome!!!
thank you
Beautiful work!
Did you just eyeball the cones?
Thanks. I think the angle was 22 degrees. Setting the compound was a bit of eyeball, but I used the same setting for inside and outside cones.... Perfect Match...
LoL... yeah Suntour XC seatpost hasn't been available for a bit. Great vids.
Hi Paul and thanks for the video. I had to look up Greg Hunt online and found a Hunt’s Harness. Is this the same guy who did work for you? Thanks. 🙂
Thanks. Yes, we put "huntsharness.com" up on the screen. Did you not see it?
@@paulbrodie I didn’t. Which means that I’m going blind. Insanity will follow soon.
I certainly hope not. Never give up!

Paul will have to grow out a handlebar mustache for riding this bike! & Don't forget your leather helmet!
nicework!
Thanks dudes. Sneaking in some reverse turning there.

Davenport Iowa ? Swap meet? ....That's close to my area. Greg has a Wisconsin area code phone number........Your TH-cam channel is very underrated. 👍
Free hand lathe work - inside cove... "That's not bad."
I'll say!
Thank you gents!
Amazing what they sell in post offices these days.
I'm not sure how that relates to this video....
@@paulbrodie I think it relates to your opening statement "Last Thursday I went to the post office and I got this seat..." 🤣🙈
@@paulbrodie You said you got the saddle from the post office!!!!!!!!!😄
Yes but ALL packages for me come from the Post Office, I try to never use UPS or Fedex.. due to huge fees for crossing the border...
@@paulbrodie Paul it was just a little joke, my crappy northern humour.
In the words of Allen Millyard, "Just perfect"
I must admit that I did not think those cone angles would help in any way, they just looked far to steep. Anyway the end result certainly seemed good, the seat seemed to be locked into position very well, the whole setup looks great too!
Paul, are you cutting those radiuses freehand, using both feed wheels simultaneously?
he is
As a 6 foot plus rider - that's a tiny short seatpost :)
Had to laugh about laying in bed thinking about seat posts.. I think most people get a brain wave while waiting for sleep. Keep a pen and paper by the bed or its gone in the morning.
I didn't have a pen and paper but I remembered all of the details...
Instead of CNC we get to see PBC. 👍
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍
Every time I use my hacksaw, I think of Allen Millyard crying in disappointment. 😅
😎👍☮
Very nice work. I see that you cut your afro
😚👌
The Brodie and Allen Millyard got to get together and collaborate on something.Collaborate and elaborate.
Why do you avoid parting off so much?
FIRST 😮
FIRST. No prize....
Very nice and the anti deflection tool too.
L cheapo hahaha
