    'Eyecrometer' 👍 love it.
    Do you bother to align the weld on the mild steel tube when forming or doesn't it make any difference?
    Do curved tubes have more flex and a more comfortable ride or is it mainly for foot clearance and aesthetics ?

    I love this videos, I don´t have the tools but I have order a custom frame (Yo Eddy Ti ) and this videos sow us how much effort is required to make a frame and that is why I have decided to go custom: custom to my size and ride. The design is not easy nowadays. The geometry is a chaos ... 66.5º front angle for XC ... Not easy task to find the perfect ride but I think I will have it.

  • @helvettefaensatan

    Can you talk a bit about what considerations are done in regards to angles when in comes to frame size? What stays the same, what needs to change, are there any relations that need to be within tolerances?
    I'm a rather short roadie, and I've always liked responsive bikes, as far as to them being twitchy. But whenever I take my MTB off road, I'm out of my comfort zone fast as ever.
    I know this can be compensated with slacker angles, but how much is cracy?
    The reason I ask is because I want to build a gravel bike out of an MTB but I don't know what to look for. I'd rather go a little bit slower on gnarly tech than to have a sluggish bike.
    I am also not used to calculating with stack & reach as measurements, are there considerations to make with type of bicycle here? Finally, I have no idea how to compensate for the extra reach of a drop bar, how should I dial my position.

    Hi Paul I hope that you are well, I have a quick question for you. I am from the UK and a long time ago trained in all the aspects of welding soft soldering and brazing, as I understand it when creating fillets with brass rods you cannot build up material with a brazing rod because it flows like lead solder, you have to use the bronze rod to achieve the build up, and is called bronze welding not brazing or are you using a new rod that has a mixture of the two ? love your work great skill.

    How much would a lack of bridge tube affect the character of the bike? Would it be a minor change in rigidity and feeling, or major? Can’t wait to see the finished bike.

    • @andresarregui3417
      @andresarregui3417 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      imagine you have really small diameter SS. Without the bridge, under compression (the main force that SS will have), these SS will tend to bend. If you put a bridge to those hypothetical SS there are less likely to bend, hence you will have a less vertically compliant bike. But if the SS are big in diameter and thickness they would almost feel nothing, so putting a bridge there will have no effect. Having said that i saw MTB without bridge frames failing in the inner part of SS in the ST. Compression forces in SS in MTB (as in big jump bikes) are way higher than in road or gravel. Makes sense?

    • @hordboy
      @hordboy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andresarregui3417 makes sense but I’m referencing the chain stay bridge Paul installed. I don’t have a steel frame to look at, but I think most steel have them. My aluminum frame Trek does not. My carbon Giant, that area is boxed in. I think it would most affect bottom bracket sway when pedaling.

    • @andresarregui3417
      @andresarregui3417 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hordboy Same principle but think of a sideways (rocking movement of the BB in a perpendicular axys to the plane of the frame) force. If not done correctly (big fillet or another way to not have a step angle of the bridge with respect to the CS) you have a big stress riser. If you have massive CS bridge wont affect. Even with old school steel small diameter tubes it will be hard to say how much stiffness the CS bride will provide. Unless you want to use fenders it could definitely be avoided. I saw lots of frames cracked in fatigue in the CS bridge at the side of the drop outs.
      So going to your original question depending on your set of tubes but probably you wont feel anything. Think of all the other factors that you can actually feel, like pressure of the tires, thread of the casing, type of wheels, type of cranks, henadlebar, etc... CS bridge influence in character of the bike will go in the lower part of the list!
