There´s actually a cool story behind that repair. I did it for the son of a WW2 Fallschirmjäger. The knife was about the only item that had remained from his dad´s wartime. I gave him back a working piece of family history !
Great Video! I have 2 Luftwaffe knives in need of similar repair coming up in my January 29th Military Auction. Maybe someone will snag them and then use your video to bring them back to life
I have a type 2 that my grandfather acquired among many spoils of war. He gave it to my dad who carried it in the gulf war, it was then given to me and I carried through OIF. Probably not the best idea to carry a vintage knife like that as a duty knife but never the less. It’s not like you actually use a knife much anyways. The spike does make a pretty handy gun tool.
This, my friend, is a truly excellent video! You are a real craftsman and watching this video was so educational. Watching someone pound rivets from an original paratrooper knife was a little disturbing at first, but then it became a joy to see your steady hand and careful work. Well done! How can I get a green lanyard?
Very nicely explained. I have one of these which my late father-in-law "found" during the action on Monte Cassino (he was 2 Korpus Polski) but the blade has been snapped. He was found in possession of it in the late 1940s in London. Explained how he got it and was allowed to keep it so long as the blade was removed or snapped. I can see now why he chose to break the blade. The bloodstained fingerprints on the blade are allegedly those of the original owner. Would have it restored but they're illegal in the UK so . . .
I found your video and repair very informative. I live in Scotland UK and collect WW2 German items - for years and years I have been searching for one of these paratrooper knives to add to my collection - sadly to no avail but my quest and search will continue until I find one of these elusive items
How much are they worth I have one that was given to me buy a friend of my that sad he found it in a old house when he was small .saw me a video on how to take apart it is 3 serial number needs to be restored.what are your recommended. Looking to sell it
An excellent video and I admire your knowledge on these knives , I also have one of the gravity knives in your video unfortunately the trigger and spring is missing . I live in England and it's been in my family for 75+ years (for obvious reasons maybe) , would you know if the spares needed are available to me in the UK ? , and also details for your "accessories" ,,,,, thanks for any help and advice .
Hello ! Thanks for the great info. I have recently inherited one of these. Would you be able to point me in the right direction for a repair. The spring and latch have broken off. I am in the US Thanks for your help and wisdom in advance.
Hallo. MfG

Great info you make it look easy! Iam trying to work up the courage to replace my spring on mine
A very interesting video. I'm not sure that I'd use a Dremel cutter with my thumb so close underneath the blade though!
