Mate I'm new to DCS, F-18 first module, working my way through tutorials and free-flying to get used to things, but I was struggling like mad with on-speed, pattern landings, and carrier landings - several weeks where all of my (fairly limited) time was spent on them, and time not able to play I'd fire up TH-cam and try to understand what I was getting wrong. I had managed two carrier landings in this time, neither remotely pretty, and I reckon one of them the server just felt sorry for me after I didn't even make contact with the deck in four attempts and it caught a wire while my PC was locked up displaying a frozen screen. I landed but I can't say I knew much about it. And then I found your video series on it, broken down, stressing the importance of each step. Couldn't play for a week at the time, so every night that week I'd go over them again, slowing them down, watching and rewinding and seeing what you're doing with your controls at all the key moments. Finally got to fly at the weekend. Buddy, I fucking nailed it, 3-wire first try, plane might have been safely down but I was bouncing off the fucking ceiling. That kinda unlocked something for me and I finally joined in with some guys I met flying and trying out A2A on a PVE server, and scored my first kill - and now feel absolutely hooked on DCS. That's my very long-winded way of saying thanks fucker, for me your videos are the best out there.
You’re welcome mate!!! So stoked the videos made sense for you and you have gotten into DCS because of them ❤️ thank you for the kind words, it good to know that my teaching style is understandable to new players to flight sims, I wish there was videos like these when I first started because the learning curve is huge as you know so I’m glad it has helped you out mate 🤞🏻🙏🏻
Wow, just found you yesterday and I like your videos. I'm currently learning the tactical brevity to step up my simulation play a bit and your videos are very helpful & entertaining. If you're interested in what happened at 34:18 , tomcats are able to download INS information of other fighter aircraft on the same freq & datalink. The STT lock is required to calculate the offset between the planes, because otherwise they would have had to fly in close formation with you. It's a super cool mechanic.
im quite a fan of the tip i had got, that you should set your aim 7 a/a mode to 140 degree 6 bar interleaved at 80 miles, and sit in rws mode when not engaging in combat.(remember to set elevation to see from 0 and above at 40 miles) this gives you a better chance of spotting something that your allies didnt, and then you still have amraam set for when you want to engage with them, where you just press amraam then tws i mostly recommend this because you werent ever using your radar to search, you were just watching datalink the whole time. where you couldve been double checking that there arent any migs sneaking below the awacs vision
FYI at 10:40 all of those AMRAAM functions are unimplimented and do absolutely nothing. S Mode specifically is a classified function and we have no clue what it does.
Nice video. Your countermeasures dispenser (ALE-47) is switched off! It's an important procedure when entering the combat area to "FENCE in" your aircraft i.e. ready it for combat by extinguishing lights and enabling defensive systems arming weapons etc. Your master arm was also turned off until right before you fired. I'm surprised this server allows such use of the F10 map and external views. Most have these set so you can't just see where everyone is and their loadout and everything.
I use counter measure override, not a fan of setting up programs for it. Good pick up on the master arm, I’ve been caught out with that far too many times before, you’d think I’d know better by now 🤪 They only have F10 and allied aircraft viewable, I guess they are trying to strike the balance of making it challenging yet still accessible for newer players wanting to come do some sorties 🤷♂️ I really enjoy the mission and how they have set things up in there, my favourite multiplayer server by far atm.
Can we have the backstory of that lady in your kneeboard. I’d like to think she was a drunken one nighter in some far off port during a night of shore leave.
Really good vid thanks. Love the insight it gives me into the thought/work process of other pilots leading up to, and during, the attack. Hopefully I can use all that info to trim out my own in-combat frantic brain fog. How cool were you when you got buddy spiked? 😎 Yeh I could do with more of this, you are obviously very capable and I need guidance on the processes of an attack rather than just what the buttons do (although very useful at the beginning too obvs), so I look forward to any more like this. The other point is, like many, I'm Public Server shy but this helps to build confidence of what might be expected should I take the leap and um...join and shoot all my flight down 🤠. Cheers Torni.
38:23 fighters you can see at 48nm just fine if you don’t have that damn look down penalty. It *should* be about 55nm, but I digress. We be lucky if ED ever changes the RCS modeling.
I’ve got it bound to my HOTAS, it is the push button keybind that if you hold your mouse over the TWS button it will show you the name. I bound that so I don’t have to use the mouse to switch between modes if that makes sense
I love your videos! help please. not related to the video I am new in DCS I am practicing carrier landings but during brake turn I get a MC1 failure and sometimes pilot dead after that is really hard to control the F/A 18C. ( this doesn't happen during ground landings) any ideas ?
I have tried 15, 30, 45 degrees with and without pitch. I think it might me a bug because it doesn't happen with the first landing but when I restart the mission it happens every single time.
DUDE I just got on multi for the first time yesterday! Do you have favorite PVE servers for noobs? I was on the Hoggit At War servers but open to see what else is out there.
Hoggit is good, the 4YA servers are pretty nice too for beginners to multiplayer. Hoggit had a good range from training all the way through to full PVE campaigns 👍🏻 Used to fly Hoggit A LOT 👌🏻

Very good points mate, relying too heavily on the SA page has gotten many a hornet pilot killed… myself included

great vid dude
Gr8 sortie-Bonza mate-love the vids-thx
Glad you enjoyed it mate
54:08 FPAS can’t calculate above Mach .93, this is also indicated by the FPAS ADV
Makes sense my man 👍🏻

Haha you’ll have to ask graywolf that one mate, I don’t even know who the fair maiden is so I’m with you on the back story too 🤪🤪
It's Penny Benjamin! Y'all need to watch 104th Maverick on Twitch.
@@Lochaby 104th maverick is a legend ❤️ I’ve learnt soooooo much from him about the hornet, one of the nicest people in the community

Fingers crossed mate 🤞🏻is there any actual documentation on the radar operation open source that they could use to model it better do you know??
@@TorniQuetHD A1-F18AC-742-100 can be found on the internet which covers the radar. I don't know if it's useful for this though.
What key do you have bound to switch your TWS from manual to auto? Saw you switch it but didn’t use the mouse.

Hmmmmm I’ve never had an MC1 failure ever in the hornet?!? How hard are you pulling into the break turn??
