Billing itself as the 'Land of Fire', Azerbaijan is a tangle of contradictions and contrasts. Neither Europe nor Asia, it's a nexus of ancient historical empires, but also a ‘new’ nation that has undergone an extraordinary transformation from the post-Soviet 1990s to an oil-enriched host of Formula 1, Europa League football, and UEFA Euro 2020.
The Culture and History of Azerbaijan developed under the influence of Persian, Turkic, and Caucasian heritage as well as Russian influences due to its former status as a Soviet republic. Today, western influences, including globalized consumer culture, are prevalent.
The climate of Azerbaijan is very diverse. Nine out of eleven existing climate zones are present in Azerbaijan from alpine to subtropical.
