The Goose brought me here. Rest In Peace buddy. 1967 - 2022. You brought my dad and I together who bonded over our Ravens. Thank you for all the great memories you gave us.
This team brought the love of football to a city that needed it back. There were still many before the season that were missing the Colts and Johnny U. When they won the Super Bowl, that put the Ravens on the map. And they have been an annual contender ever since. No matter who they on offense, the defense will always be the focus. That'll never change. #RavensNation
In my opinion the 2002 Buccaneers, 2013 Seahawks, 2015 Broncos were great, BUT the 2000 Baltimore Ravens was the greatest. I've never seen a defense so dominant and intimidating. That will always be the greatest raven team of all time.
I'm a Bills fan but the 2000 Baltimore Ravens are the greatest single season defensive unit I've ever seen...better than the 69 Chiefs, 71 Vikings, 76 Steelers, 85 Bears, 86 Giants, 91 Eagles, 2013 Seahawks, and 2015 Broncos. The late 50's Giants defense, coached by Tom Landry, was great too along with the 62 Packers and the 63 Bears defenses. Kinda strange how 3 of the best defenses in NFL history didn't even make it to the Super Bowl...the 71 Vikings, 76 Steelers, and 91 Eagles. Offense wins games but defense wins championships. The #1 defense is 5-1 in Super Bowls against the #1 offense I believe
@@liberalmadness7248 2000 Ravens gave up less points during a time that favored the defense less, and they did it with one of the worst QBs to ever win a superbowl. Bears had a better QB, and arguably the greatest RB of all time. Ravens D was better.
The Divisional playoff game between the Ravens and Titans in 2000 was the real Super Bowl. The winner of that game would have beaten every other playoff team.
They allowed less rushing yards than the 2000 ravens which is unreal. Just think they allowed less yards than the steel curtain and the played more games
This entire tape brings me so many goosebumps and I tear up every time I watch Jermaine Lewis return that second punt against the jets. Such a well done Super Bowl Tape

Well, they're not really a "by the book" expansion team, the Cleveland Browns ceased operations in 1996 because of the decline of their stadium and relocated to Baltimore and became the Ravens.. When the Browns franchise was reactivated in 1999, the NFL held and expansion draft for them and, by a legal settlement with the NFL, retained the Browns logo, history, stats, legacy, etc.. (I still think the 4 Super Bowls that those pre-1996 Browns won should be attached to the Ravens) and are the Browns we know today... But in the end, I totally get what you're saying, just that in my mind, legally the Ravens might be an expansion team, but morally and logically they're just the relocated Cleveland Browns.. Vinny Testaverde is a perfect example, he played with the Browns in 1995 and in 1996, when the whole staff, coaches and roster moved to Baltimore, he played with the Ravens, that doesn't sound like an expansion team to me
They werent an expansion team. They were the Cleveland Browns from 1946-95. They moved to Baltimore after the 95 season and renamed the team the Ravens. But the Browns name and history stayed in Cleveland and the Ravens started fresh as far as their history and team records. Same with the Tennessee Titans. They were the Houston Oilers from 1960-93 and moved to Nashville for the 94 season I believe. But i believe all the Oilers history and team records are listed in the Titans team record books unlike the Ravens. But the Ravens are not an expansion team
The 2000 Ravens are the model of how the ravens always build their teams. Dominant defense, grind it out running, strong tight ends, qb that likes to air out the ball.
Pretty funny the Titan in the video saying it’s party time baby is Derrick Mason who would go on to become the Ravens all time leader in receptions and receiving yards years later.
Awesome team that year. 2000 Ravens were far and above the most dominant defense in the modern day NFL. Their offense got better once Dilfer took over as QB. If the Ravens were a little better on "O", they might have went 15-1, possibly undefeated that year.
I’ll never forget the impact this team/defense had on me when I started playing football. In 2000 my team (11-12 years old) had 6 shutouts. That was my 2nd year playing middle linebacker. I was definitely doing my best impersonation of Ray Lewis every game lol. Every week our motto was (PARTY ON THE BALL). Our defense was ridiculous that year. People were calling us the “Baby Ravens” 😂😂 We went 10-2 overall and won the championship 🏆. Great memories. I still have the games on VHS 😂😂
The knock on this defense is that they didn't play any great QB's that year but look at the HOF caliber RB's they shut down. Jerome Bettis Curtis Martin & Eddie George for example
+Ryan Herich aikmen had starting declining hard by then he wasn't elite anymore, Rich Gannon had a great run game only great year he had was 2002 his MVP season & In 2000 Eddie George was a top 5 RB easily
And they shut down Corey Dillon a week after he broke the rushing record. Mike Anderson ran for 1500 yards and he got nothing going in the Wildcard game. Tiki Barber, Fred Taylor, Stephen Davis, Emmitt Smith...none of them got 100 against that D.
What if Jamal Lewis didn't tear his ACL in 2001 training camp and Drew Bledsoe didn't get hurt against the jets. There's no Patriots dynasty and there's a ravens dynasty instead.
ericradford2142 Even if your Ravens get their dynasty, it would be for five seasons, three titles, at MOST. With no Belichick's genius and a perfectly complementary gridiron general Brady, the Ravens definitely would not be relevant for more than five years -- instead of the 15 for the Patriots now.
This is one my favorite teams. Their D was KILLER! Told every one, watch the Ravens, they're gonna win it all.(so many friends said "Man stick to guitar, you're crazy!" LoL) A great defense, great running back, their QB played well enough. I consider them one of the Great teams. I'm NOT a Ravens fan, bit I love me some Ray Lewis, Goose, etc.
Closest we got is the 2001 matchup between the two in Tampa. Close game but the Bucs pulled out the win mostly due to have superior offensive talent at QB, RB and WR that season.
One thing that team didn't lack with Ray Lewis leading the way was KILLER instinct. Amirite? They were a cut or two above the rest. They'd make you bleed to get their point across.
Trent Dilfer was average. He did what he needed to do. They should have kept Dilfer. You guys went through a plethora of different quarterbacks since 2000
@@tballgame43 we didn’t just lose Jamal but also Priest Holmes in one offseason! Think about if we had kept Priest when Jamal went down I think we could’ve been able to handle it. Terry Allen and Jason Brookins weren’t able to handle the load.
If the Ravens had kept Trent Dilfer, I have no doubt that they would have repeated as champions, since they managed to keep the majority of the rest of their players along with their defensive coordinator. But their head coach really wanted a flashy, high scoring offense so not to rely on their defense so much.
Grbac was Blake Bortles before Blake Bortles. Most of his yards came in garbage time when he was in KC. What team let’s their pro bowl quarterback go for nothing in free agency? One that wasn’t a winner which Grbac wasn’t. I mean they went 4 - 12 with him in 2000 when he was in KC. Not sure why Billick wanted him.

So odd that the Baltimore Ravens defense wasn't top-ranked at regular season's end in 2000. That honor was actually bestowed upon the Tennessee Titans instead.
They probably WOULD'VE been #1, no question about it, if it hadn't been for their second game of the season against Jacksonville when they gave up 36 points in a 39-36 win. Still, they may not have been #1 all year, but they were #1 when it counted.

To be fair they couldn't score a touchdown against the Browns who were horrendous. The Ravens had the ball on the one yard line at one point and couldn't punch it in.
I've always wondered why they cut Dilfer for Grbac the following season.. He was good enough to win the Super Bowl but not earn enough respect to be your starter? Nick Foles probably feels the same as Dilfer lol.
Joshua Thomas Because Grbac had a ton of garbage yards that padded his stats in KC the prior year. Not to mention he had a great O line and Tony Gonzalez. When Elvis got to Baltimore his O line wasn’t as good and there was no Jamal or Priest Holmes. Plus he couldn’t handle the toughness of the Steelers defense who just devoured him.
Dilfer wasn’t cut. When the Ravens signed him it was only a one year contract. He fulfilled his duties to his contract. The Ravens just chose not to resign him. I’m with you though they should’ve kept him and resigned Priest Holmes instead of signing Grbac. Can you imagine if we still had Priest after Jamal went down? It would’ve really helped us.
