How was there anything not "good" about what Paris did? She is 18, they used protection and it happened with someone who genuinely cared for her. As far as there is a right or wrong, Paris did everything right.
I think it was also about Rory waiting till it was right for her and not doing it just because everyone else was or anything like that. I get so frustrated when people, even well meaning friends, put rules or their own goalposts on a relationship. People are different and each relationship goes its own course. Not kissing on the third date should be just as okay as sleeping together. As long as both people are happy with where they are at, leave them be.
rory wasn't a good person in season 2 and 3. She cheated on dean with jess on sookie's weeding, she knew that she liked jess but stayed with dean and pretended to love him, she went to ny to see jess... she wasn't a good kid

Thank you guys...someone needed to defend Paris. I never had sex in high school but a lot of kids do...only problem is they can’t get birth control without telling their parents. So it’s really risky. I think spoiler alert Lorelai just didn’t want Rory to make the same mistake she did. That’s why she said that Rory was good. It wasn’t a judgmental thing I think but who knows. So many things the Palladinos did with the show I don’t understand at all so I could be way off here. I really liked the last episode that the other guy wrote. It was a happier more hopeful ending than Rory getting pregnant would have been. I will probably watch it if they have another revival but I didn’t like the revival except for the wedding. I like Milo a lot. I think he’s a great actor but I don’t think they should end up together. I think Rory needs to get her act together. She was a mess in the revival. I was okay with her not having a job and writing s book but she did not even try sometimes. That online magazine job would have been fine but she acted like she was better than them. Not cool.
ilovecakexD I don’t think Lorelai’s comment was, in any way, meant to shade Paris or make it seem as if Paris’ actions were “bad.” It’s just... no parent is exactly thrilled when they find out their teenager is sexually active. But multiply that times ten for Lorelai because she was a teenage mother and she has a built in fear about Rory repeating her mistakes. I think her reaction was reasonable. She knows teenagers have sex, I think she was just trying to protect Rory for as long as she possibly could.

Karasuno Spaghetti I agree the only reason she chose Yale was because of a pro con list but what she forgot was that Harvard was her dream school ever since she was little. I also think lorelai is partially to blame since she always babied Rory in a way that made Rory really dependent on her mom and so she had felt that she would see her more often if she went to Yale. Rory really relies on her mother and you can see that since when she moved into Yale she called her mom to come back because she was homesick. Logan was the worst thing to ever happen to her too, I mean he brought Rory
I’d say ironically she showed horror at mention with Dean rather than when Paris said Jess lol. Honestly hate both Lorelai and Dean. The only two characters on this show I hate. Love Jess and Luke. Rory should’ve ended up with Jess and stupid Lorelai and Dean were always standing in the way of that.
The irony of Lorelai saying “I’ve got the good kid” when Paris slept with someone who loves her and was responsible, while Rory ends up losing her virginity to a married man, never escapes me.
Rory was the good kid until she went to college and thought morals and values don't apply to her when it comes to the things she wants or thinks she is entitled to. Like sleeping with a married man, stealing a boat because someone hurt her feelings and think she is entitled to something because she thinks she's special. And how they made Paris look like a bad kid. She did nothing wrong. She's 18 at this point, right. She used protection and with a guy who loved her and she loved him. She is not a bad kid. Bad judgement on the writers here.
Not to mention she then slept with an engaged Logan after deciding she was too good to marry him a season earlier. Oh and wanting to write a personal book about everyone in her life.
Well to be fair Logan's Life and Death Brigade did emphasize money talks. I know it was to drive the plot but Logan did say his lawyer would fix the boat situation and Lorelei declined. He would have spoke to Rory directly about it, that was implausible tbh
"why did you use this font?" "cause i was on the crack" "it wasnt exactly a come and get it topic, but nevertheless, he came and got it." gotta love this show!
Until Rory decides to lose her virginity to Dean who's married to another woman. Paris and rory have a good relationship considering Paris is like a Hyper Control Freak.
Maybe I understood the show wrong, but I always thought Lorelai meant "good kid" as in the kid who thought things through before having sex, not the kid who didn't have sex.

Yes, the good kid who sleeps with a married guy, treats the people who love her like dirt, steals a yacht, drops out of school, and is just overall a bitch. Well, to be fair, in seasons 1-3 Rory was a good kid. After that I couldn't stand her, especially in seasons 4 and 5. She was alright in 6 and 7 though. I just hate that she constantly chooses other guys over Jess....
It is hilarious to me that the first time we meet Paris she is rory's enemy and by the end she becomes a life long friend. This show got some things right on the mark.
" What are your thoughts on that?" lmbo! Who says that after you tell someone something like that?! Paris is so hilarious! No matter how much either of them try to deny it, they were best friends. Paris was comfortable enough with Rory to tell her this. I mean, she didn't even tell Madeline or Louise. I love it how they grew on each other :)
a room should never really be right next to the kitchen because of the smell of the food. But in my childhood home my room had a window to the kitchen so who knows.
A conversation between her and Rory doesn't allieviate all fears. Parents know their kids are not always honest with them. Lorelai especially knows given her relationship with her mom. But parents can more trust what their kid tells a friend.
Tbh i feel like Rory would be a good and smart person if Richard and Emily didn't get too involved in their life and treated her like some privileged, rich princess. Lorelai was raising her extremely well, such a shame.
Well I think she is gorgeous. She is smart, sassy, and fun. She work hedard her entire life and is typically a good kid. Yes, she made mistakes finally in College. but she felt bad about them and moved on. And remember, it takes two to Tango, so Dean did a lot there.
Please, we all judge Dean as well, espcielaly because we see him disrespect and yell at Lindsay afterwards trying to make her feel guilty, while he is the cheater. The way they wrote Dean was just toxic behavior... However, Rory is just as much to blame. I hate that this was her first time. I wish she had done it with Jess, she clearly had passion with him and he was her boyfriend.

You’re right that he made her feel guilty when he was the cheater, and I thought throughout the whole show he had problems keeping his cool. When Jess was dating Rory and there was something he didn’t like at least he was able to stay calm about it, which proved that even though he had problems of his own he was a better boyfriend than dean was.
I can't believe there're so many comments dissing Rory. She is human. Humans mess up. She would've been a boring character if she never made mistakes. Part of the storyline is Rory growing into a mature woman and growing up means making mistakes. She is still a good person despite her mistakes because she not only felt bad but tried to rectify them. I also understand why she denied Jess so much, he was the first boy that really broke her heart cuz he left her. In my mind they ended up together.
Tom Wotton - I really didn't like the implication that underage sex is bad when the show tries to act like they are progressive about it, but at the same time that's probably how most moms would react.
They were talking about Rory's past though, when she would have been underage. I guess it maybe isn't so much about the age, I suppose any parent doesn't want their little girl being sexually active, even when they're adults, but when Lorelai says that it just really felt very judgey of Paris and girls in general who are sexually active before marriage or serious long term adult relationships or something, and just felt out of sync with a lot of the show's message.
strong mother gothel vibes from lorelai in this scene no wonder Rory had a melt down went she went away to college, her mum was infantilising her and praising her for never trying new things or taking risks
I don't understand why Lorelai is so relieved to hear this. Her and Rory just recently discussed the fact that Rory and Jess hadn't had sex yet but that they were close. Rory also promised to talk to Lorelai about it first. So why is she so shocked?
2:50-2:52 tells you everything you need to know about Lauren Graham. She's smiling relieved and when Paris says "With Jess then" nothing on Lauren's face movies, except the look of terror in her eyes. She was robbed of an Emmy every year!
"I brought pizza in case you guys are hungry" "I have to take my retainer out first" She goes to the bathroom, to privately take her retainer out, how it should be.
I hate how she says Rory is a good kid especially because Paris did this when she was 18 with her boyfriend who is a successful student who goes to Princeton university and then later Rory sleeps with her married ex-boyfriend who is not yet divorced from his wife so it’s like who is really the good kid Lorelai not your daughter she sucks
lorelai isn't THE UNITED NATIONS speaking on behalf of world morality... its just a mom's moment and a few words she whispered to herself and it's a tv show... lol there is nothing more pure or good about a girl who chooses abstinence over sex, but come on, every mom in the world would be happier with a daughter to chooses abstinence, perhaps just so there's less to worry about? but yeah it's just a mom moment, and a tv moment.. coming from lorelai who is a bad kid herself..
Rory IS the good kid. Being good doesn't mean being perfect, not sure what being good means. We know Rory is caring, thoughtful, loving and kind. She has goals, dreams, aspirations that she works hard to. She makes mistakes, who the hell doesn't, but she tries to understand her mistakes and somehow make right what wrong she did. She, like everybody else, is growing up in a world not built for them (if you understand).
Sorry but sleeping with a married man is not a mistake, it's a choice. The same choice she makes whn she grows up and has an affair with Logan who is engaged to someone else. So how did she learn from this?..
Forgive me for being a little overdramatic but Lorelei’s arrogance about Rory really bothers me sometimes. There’s nothing wrong with Paris sleeping with her boyfriend she’s been dating for months/ one year and is in love with. And why was Lorelei eavesdropping on their obviously personal conversation in the first place? It almost makes me glad that Rory ending up losing it the way she did so Lorelei can get her head out of her behind about Rory _and_ Dean too. I’m sure Paris’ parents can sleep at night with how things turned out for Paris better than Lorelei can with how things turned out for Rory. The first time I saw this episode I was annoyed with Lorelei glowing and basically saying Paris is the “bad kid” and she has the good kid just because Paris did something that Lorelei should know better than anyone is a normal/ natural thing for a teen to do.
I love Lorelai but I don’t know why she said “I’ve got the good kid,” when she found out Rory is a virgin. I know Lorelai got pregnant at 16 and she doesn’t want the same for Rory, but if your daughter has sex, it doesn’t make her a bad kid. I personally do not want to do that until marriage and when I’m ready for kids and my husband is too, but having sex does not make you a bad kid.
I feel that Lorelai was comparing herself (= the bad kid) with Rory, not Paris with Rory. She always says that she doesn't want Rory to be like her when she was a teen, and I feel that Lorelai is proud to hear her daughter talking maturely about s*x. (Spoiler alert: yes I know this was before season 4 lmao 😭)
I thought that Lorelai was saying she has the good kid not because Rory having sex would have been bad but because Rory didn’t have sex and lie about it
@XshamosasX Yeah, I know! I actually wrote a story about a girl who chose the "bad boy," because I was so mad about Rory dismissing Jess. He's my favorite!
God this triggers me. "I got the good kid." Paris did nothing wrong! Loreali acting like her own daughter was some sort of Saint is probably what made her end up being definitely NOT the good kid. I loved this show but I couldn't get on board with the ideals and storylines sometimes. Also Rory was in no way my favourite character. Shame what they did to her as the seasons progressed.
Lorelai's comment makes me sick. I know GG is very Disney and has little edge, but this is just straight up disappointing. What kind of message does that send out to teenagers?!
No parent in their right mind would want their kid to be having sex in high school regardless of the kid's age. Someone who would claim they wouldn't mind a kid losing their virginity in high school is either not a parent or a delusional parent. While a kid is not automatically "bad" for having sex, it's not a good idea to have sex in high school since they are not financially or emotionally equipped to handle the potential consequences of sex. Birth control is not 100%. All of my friends became pregnant while using two forms of birth control in their 30s (fertility decreases for women after 25). If that could happen to women who are close to middle-age, then it can definitely happen to a fertile teenager. What would happen to Paris if she got pregnant? She is already freaking out over losing her virginity and is not even aware of how she feels. The fact that she is asking Rory to tell her how to feel shows she is not emotionally mature enough to have a sexual relationship. Paris is very much still a little girl. She didn't run to Rory saying she is so thrilled to lose her virginity; she seemed nervous and unsure of herself. Her breakdown during the debate further proves that she simply wasn't ready.
Mum always says this to me. My little sister is a bit of a brat. (She's not blood relation to me, but She feels like my sister, she lives with her mum) Whenever she does something bad, Mum always says, I"ve got the good kid
How was there anything not "good" about what Paris did? She is 18, they used protection and it happened with someone who genuinely cared for her. As far as there is a right or wrong, Paris did everything right.

The most cringe worthy line in the entire series that aged like milk and still gets crucified on current fan boards and discussion groups.
Oh you sweet summer Lorelai...
Lorelai: “I have the good kid”
Well that didn’t age well 😅
Was it something I said? Oh Rory!
so she thought so we all thought
And than the Married Dean nation attacked.
The sad thing about it is Lorelei probably wouldn’t have given her any better advice.
"I brought pizza in case you guys are hungry"
"I have to take my retainer out first"
She goes to the bathroom, to privately take her retainer out, how it should be.
lol i love lorelai's facial expressions
rory was a good kid and a bad adult.
Meanwhile now Paris a very successful OB-GYN and Rory an unsuccessful Journalist who falls asleep interviewing and expecting jobs without earning it
when rory and paris get their letter from the universities that applied to.
Paris sounds like she's crying when she talks
Paris sleeps with her professor...
“I’ve got the good kid”. Stealing boats, sleeping with married men. Yeah great job Lor.
Trust me, no you dont
I feel like Rory was a better friend to Paris than to Lane🤔
"The good kid " 😂😂😂😂😂😂 wait For it!!
Ur not going to think that when she does loses it..... lol
And then she wasn't ....
Funny how Rory ended up pregnant with no one.
Friendship Moment!
LOL Paris... " a healthy debate"
(Spoiler alert: yes I know this was before season 4 lmao 😭)
lol "Was it something I said?"
I thought that Lorelai was saying she has the good kid not because Rory having sex would have been bad but because Rory didn’t have sex and lie about it
It's weird that Paris views Stars Hollow as backwards lol. It's a small town not Amish Country or a time portal.
I miss this show !!
so many ppl are mad about this but i think it was just about how rory talked to paris & asked her the right questions
Ah yes, Paris is such a bad kid for sleeping with her boyfriend whom she loves and who loves her back.
Was he nice to you?
Yes, he was very nice to me...😂
Now Paris diss would be ill useuse a cell phone do you guys have cell phones in this town or should I use a payphone
Lorelai thought too much of her daughter
@XshamosasX Yeah, I know! I actually wrote a story about a girl who chose the "bad boy," because I was so mad about Rory dismissing Jess. He's my favorite!
just saw this episode yesterday i think it was i love this show
God this triggers me.
@8sakuraleaf9 What did Rory that categorized her as a "brat"
Lorelai's comment makes me sick. I know GG is very Disney and has little edge, but this is just straight up disappointing. What kind of message does that send out to teenagers?!
u just feel happy for lorelai
you've got the good kid becouse you are the best mom ever
"I've got the good kid." Man, that didn't age well. Anyone else remember what happened with Rory a couple years after this?
@XshamosasX You do relize this is like second season right???
lmao I love this scene
Couldn't she have said "I've got A good kid"??? Then it wouldn't have sounded so judgemental towards Paris
@LizaLermontov exactly:)
