    I used this line in 1958/59. What changes there are:
    1. No Citylink overpasses then.
    2. The bridge over Racecourse Road for stock going from the railway to the saleyards is gone.
    3. The then separate tram and motor traffic bridges over the Maribyrnong are now combined, isolating The Anglers pub from passing trade.
    It is a fascinating trip. Errol Street is well worth browsing, as is Racecourse Road near Flemington station, and Union Road.

    I've ridden the 57 too many times to recount! That and the 82.

      I don’t think you would have ridden it much last week, not without a ferry along the way…

    Great Video. That's one of a few tram routes that i did not take a ride on live. When we visit the Melbourne Show we used the train. What is in the box on the roof of the Z Class trams?

    • @arokh72
      @arokh72 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm going to guess it's the a/c box.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter Leidgen It is probably the air conditioner for the driver. The passengers just suffer the heat.

    • @peterausfranken
      @peterausfranken 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tressteleg1 In the old days we had no a/c😉
      And about hot. We have now in Germany winter but with 15 to 20 grads plus it fells like spring🙂

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter Leidgen Maybe there is too much air con these days.
      No matter what summer months I come to Melbourne, I will freeze. Only 21° today, less on the last two days.

    Great video. Why have so many Stops been eliminated?

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably to save money on the number of raised stops they have to build.

      Looking at the locations I’d say it’s a safety reason. Potential conflict between cars and pedestrians.

    When was this filmed?

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A couple of years ago it was filmed. I can’t remember exactly when, I usually put the date right near the start of the video.

      Tram noise is louder on the sections of track set in concrete. They are now using bitumen when renewing tracks instead of concrete which makes the sound from passing trams much quieter. You can hear the difference at the start of the video at 0.28 when the tram travels briefly on a bitumen section of track.

    I thought talking to the driver was a no no. Good customer service from the driver though.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      arokh72 As I used to drive there myself, most drivers will ‘Talk Shop’ with me, but I don’t want them talking when the tram is moving.
