You're making a point that I really believe in. Everything I've purchased has been main stream stuff. For gold, that AGE's, Buffalos, or Maples (usually Maples for the lower premiums). Anything else was a sovereign minted coin that I picked up next to melt. For silver, it's name brand 5oz bars, minted coins, or basic rounds. I buy no "collectables" or items with numismatic value. (Well, in fairness, I did buy one 5oz round because it was just so cool and I wanted to use it a coaster in my man cave - in a capsule of course.) I always plan to sell at local LCS's or dealers at coin shows and I never plan on getting more than spot for my metals - anything extra is gravy. Steven Covey said to "begin with the end in mind" and for this PM enthusiast, it means "buy with the sell in mind" on every purchase. I also do not buy online; leaves too many footprints in the sand.
Like you, I have bought and sold 100s of ounces of gold. I attribute my losses as the tuition for the education on what to buy, and what to avoid. I owned a 2017 Dutch Mint Lion Dollar (coin of the year) and the 2018 Dutch Mint Lion Dollar. I paid about $3,500 over spot for each coin. I quickly learned that it was impossible to sell these coins. It took almost 3 years. I found buyers when the USA government gave every poor citizen a $1500 stimulus check in 2020. (I did not qualify for stimulus, I earn too much). The buyers told me that they wanted to buy something “real” with the stimulus. I lost about $500 per coin after shipping, insurance, and eBay fees. Never again will I buy something that expensive. Another painful loss was buying gold coins that were minted from the Scottsdale mint. The dealers refuse to buy them, and the on-line guys will only buy them at melt. Now, I only buy buffaloes, Brittanias, and Maples. I only buy 24 caret coins. It is all about liquidity. Gold is money, it is not a play-thing.
Thank you for convincing me to continue to stack Cdn Gold Maples. I don't want to go through the hassle of finding a buyer when it's time to sell or trade.
My problem is the more I get, the more I want. The more I don’t want to sell. Going to have to be something really great, or really bad for me to sell.
The farmers that I buy from here in middle Tennessee will only take American coins, junk silver, American gold or silver Eagles. I usually pay with silver eagles since I have lots of those.
OH! I am so bad! One buffalo, a couple Eagles, and a whole bunch of beauties. So Bad... SO HAPPY! I'm not selling so no loss. My cousin bought the other way as you suggest and made a nice profit selling. But she intended that all along. Me, I want a beautiful unique collection to give to my wife's daughter later. But to all others, I suggest listening to your advise, unless you're sure it's a keeper.
You made some excellent points here... Since, I plan to hold my Gold until I really need to sell it, I don't intend to flip for profit and I would most likely sell to an LCS. This further reassures me that I'm doing the right thing sticking to recognizable Gold coins like Maples, Phillies, Britts, Buffalos and of course Eagles and staying away from Semi's. Thanks for sharing!👍

I've been a fan of keeping things as simple and reliable as possible and this is a theme that runs through my life. The more complex something gets, the less reliable it tends to be and usually at a time when life provides plenty of unwanted complexity all on its own. So, in terms of gold stacking, I only stack AGEs, Maples, and some Britannias. I like the Britannias a lot so will be adding more as I close in on my gold stacking goal. Hopefully, that will occur sometime in early to mid-2024 but it's one of those wait-and-see types of things. Because of this, I don't have any exotic / fun / weird gold in my stack and have no plans to add any. I might add some pre-'33 gold at some point but am not in any hurry to do so at the moment.
I’ve thought about picking up the 1/4 and 1/2 oz 2016 W walking/standing liberty gold coins, but fear I will have buyers remorse. I love the design, but I feel like it’s the “wrong gold”, even how attractive the coins are.
Always best to have an exit strategy. I usually stay with pre-33, AGB and AGE. Maples would be good also. I don't have much experience with anything else. Great advice!
Yeah I was trying to sell a 1/4 Queens Beast Unicorn the other day. Had no luck for cash offer so i opted to accept some silver maples plus cash. It worked out to be roughly the same as cash value but definitely selling numismatic coins are more difficult, takes more time, and hurts my heart a little more than genetics.
That's exactly why I stack strictly bullion coins when it comes to gold ( except for pre 33). I occasionally splurge on an expensive premium silver, The last high premium gold piece I purchased was 2009 UHR DOUBLE EAGLE.
I’ve been getting into the American Liberty high relief gold series. I mainly stack them to hedge against gold spot. I try not to have them take up more than 10% of my gold stack though incase I have to liquidate some in a hurry.
Yes, the painful truth, limited doesn’t necessarily equal rarity or value. What an eloquent way of destroying the myth that you will get back your premiums from purposefully limited mintages. 👍👍

Belonged to my mother and I love the coin except it is held in place by 4 tiny tabs than likely damaged, to some extent, the reverse rim. It should be sold as jewelry and remain in the setting. I would likely replace it with a mint state coin.
I could be missing something. But it’s seems like if you are stacking gold or silver you would always want to pay the lowest premium possible. And if you want to play the collectibles game buy at the best price you can and sell at coin shows.

The problem is the bullion dealers. Those same people who sold you the coin for well over spot because it is a special coin, will not recognise it as such when it comes to buying one, but then instantly mark it up with high premiums when selling it on again because it is a special coin. The dealers are ripping us off. In the UK, we have Back Yard Buillion, who is acting as in intermediary selling his subscribers gold and silver for a small fee. The seller gets a better deal than if he or she went to a dealer and the buyer gets lower prices too. This is truly needed in the UK, where dealers will offer hundreds below spot for your oz of gold. You can always get your worth in weight of gold, or close to it. Depends on what you’re stacking it for. Things change over the years. We never know what 20 years from now will be like. Easiest to sell are AGE & Buffalos, then Canadian maples in the US. If you’re stacking long term, don’t worry about selling now. there are a few certain coins that if the time should ever arise, that i would sell before i would sell any other coin, but i am trying not to go down that road as of yet, as for strange coin purchases, if you were to look at my stack as a whole, you would possibly question what my intentions are, i seem to be in between collector and stacker sometimes, while i do agree with your points on simply going to the favourite in your region, which is what i plan on doing eventually, i just gotta get a few coins from around the world first. i hope it wont be my downfall though haha, as for the Perthmint series coins like the Lunars 3 and myths and legends..... i have the home advantage
When selling to a on line dealer, do you insure your metals? Just curious, because that can be expensive. That expense alone makes me go to my lcs. Thanks!
And yet still won’t feel near the sting selling those as some of these guys buying MS70 ASE’s for over double spot because they are in plastic 😬 EXTRA SPECIAL!!!
Hi just stacking buffalos and eagles here. Though what is your opinion on the Mexican Libertad? They are pricey but I’d like one someday just because of the artwork.
Some dealers will make the swap, others won't. Might be worth calling around. (And there will be people here telling not to give up the quarters.) Good luck!
@@2is1gold that you again for your response.... & there are SO MANY Auction houses (both national & international) picking the most appropriate is crucial for these "weird coins".
I buy for my Son's future .. yes .. I have some for me ... but I don't plan on selling , and hopefully will never have to .. but full ounces are very hard to sell in the UK .. people are going smaller these days ..
Sometimes I feel like the only people that can afford to save are the people that make so much money they don't even need to save. Obviously anything could happen to anyone where they are drained of all their funds but I think in general I'm right.
Another great video with good information to contemplate. The Betty Boop gold coin at my local coin shop comes to mind 😂 I wouldn't touch that thing with a 10-foot pole.
Ha! There was a Homer Simpson coin at mine for a long time. You always hear how well they do on eBay based on ask price, but that thing sat for quite a while. 🍩
I like to buy fun silver rounds for my grandkids (colorized Paw Patrol, Barbie, Baby Yoda, etc.), but otherwise I only buy vanilla bullion. I only get Maples for gold, and in silver I have both ASE and Maples, a pile of 90% junk coins, and a few 10 oz bars. I'm not smart enough for numismatics and collectables. One of the key advantages of precious metals is liquidity; why wouldn't I stick with choices that emphasize that advantage?
Question is out of topic little bit, but i would like to know your advice for buying these gold coins as a savings, for next 2-3 years for a house purchase, what you think, is it good idea? if you can please answer as soon as possible, thanks.
I see coin collecting/numismatics/exonumia as an endurance run. I enjoy seeing numismatic coins I got in high grade time to time but also understand playing around with them too much accelerates their aging. The one area of weird gold/silver/copper that seems to do better than most is the Dan Carr issues over at Moonlight Mint. Dan comes up with some artistic and novel work. Maybe not as intricate as some of the larger mints but still aesthetically pleasing and interesting.
I have the Myths and Legends series, they're my "never sell" coins. A guy on facebook offered me spot + 40% for the 2018 Dragon/phoenix. I said no 😁. That beings said, semi collectable stuff is easier to sell on the secondary market than standard bullion in my experience. Everyone is always on the lookout for the Myths and Legends while no-one wants a Kangaroo or Britannia.
I’m looking to get a 1/4 Yale Tudors Beasts currently one of the cheapest Gold 1/4 coin do you think it’s a good buy or gor for the cheapest Britannia or pay the premium on some eagles

I looked up the word weird the other day. It didn't mean what I thought it did. I've been using it wrong for decades. It's a word for witches and/ or supernatural or unearthly. I will not call another thing weird ever again in a joking way. Or a person. I used to jokingly call people weirdos. I didn't realize I was calling them a witch. I got the definition from my 1984 Websters dictionary. It has the word history with the definition also. I'm not judging your title. I'm saying, I am embarrassed by my own ignorance. Another example of a word or name I didn't understand is the band Incubus. It used to be my favorite band until I looked up the meaning of the name. It's a male sex demon. Opposite of the succubus, the female sex demon. Guard your hearts. This world is not our home. 👍💪🙏
i used to collect coins in a series. If you miss one, it sucks. especially if its a homerun coin. so for me coin series are a "all or none" venture. kinda sounds like that is where you're at. you can always sell and load up on something better or more comfortable. btw I used to sell on ebay a lot before the 600.00 tax bs kicked in. Ebay was always around 13%. so i'd mark things accordingly so I could make something, but I would only break even at time.

there are a few certain coins that if the time should ever arise, that i would sell before i would sell any other coin, but i am trying not to go down that road as of yet, as for strange coin purchases, if you were to look at my stack as a whole, you would possibly question what my intentions are, i seem to be in between collector and stacker sometimes, while i do agree with your points on simply going to the favourite in your region, which is what i plan on doing eventually, i just gotta get a few coins from around the world first.
i hope it wont be my downfall though haha, as for the Perthmint series coins like the Lunars 3 and myths and legends..... i have the home advantage

Good thought exercise 👍

When selling to a on line dealer, do you insure your metals? Just curious, because that can be expensive. That expense alone makes me go to my lcs. Thanks!
They tend to have deals with shippers. They send a label that includes insurance.
Reading between says stack dont collect😢
My US Art Medal and most of my lmu’s were hard to sell. Sticking with the home team

2is1... whay are your thoughts on Au perth dragon bar coin??? Pass? Concerns about liquidity down the road. Thanks.
And yet still won’t feel near the sting selling those as some of these guys buying MS70 ASE’s for over double spot because they are in plastic 😬 EXTRA SPECIAL!!!
Ha, true.
All gold (no matter how weird) will sell. the only hangup is getting more than spot for its weirdness
And the effort it takes to sell it.
Hi just stacking buffalos and eagles here. Though what is your opinion on the Mexican Libertad? They are pricey but I’d like one someday just because of the artwork.
@2 is 1: I am torn, have three ounces in 1/4 oz maples and want to turn them into three gold Buffalos but I am going to lose in that trade, am I not?
Some dealers will make the swap, others won't. Might be worth calling around. (And there will be people here telling not to give up the quarters.) Good luck!
@@2is1gold thank you for the response, much appreciated. I enjoy the content.
Thanks for explaining ⭐QUESTION: What about selling through reputible Auction Houses?
There's a huge spectrum for time and difficulty, but auctions are options too.
@@2is1gold that you again for your response.... & there are SO MANY Auction houses (both national & international) picking the most appropriate is crucial for these "weird coins".
I am a queen dealer in California. I am interested in purchasing your gold dragon coin.
Coin
I'm not too worried about it, but if you're interested in that particular coin, hit me up with an email 2is1gold at gmail dot com. Cheers!
I buy for my Son's future .. yes .. I have some for me ... but I don't plan on selling , and hopefully will never have to .. but full ounces are very hard to sell in the UK .. people are going smaller these days ..
Should I put 2 different coins of the same size that fit in the same tube?
Sovereign bullion ounces of one's country are key
Although ONE proof .99999 would be nice :)
Excellent shit

Sometimes I feel like the only people that can afford to save are the people that make so much money they don't even need to save. Obviously anything could happen to anyone where they are drained of all their funds but I think in general I'm right.
@@DrSchor if your worried about them going broke what do you think about the people that can't afford to save and will be broke?
Good job with the myths and legends. I know a guy that collects kangaroos. Particularly back-year kangaroos. Be well.
Hello 👋
Excellent 👌 video
I am Saving these days 3 Months then I invest in Gold Builions.
Thanks Arafat!
I’m looking to get a 1/4 Yale Tudors Beasts currently one of the cheapest Gold 1/4 coin do you think it’s a good buy or gor for the cheapest Britannia or pay the premium on some eagles
Brittania would be a better buy.
What if you would sell to a highly rated buyer. Is that even an option. Prob not
I am sorry I can’t afford to buy your cool gold, but throw in an autograph and maybe the incentive is there.
Nobody really needs a Lambo....
It's true. 😅
Government issued coins only for me.
Simple really, just set up your own trading option, we can all join in 👍
Nice pocket knife. Online retailer or custom? Stick with coins primarily from your country of origin.
The exit thing is my Achilles heel 😊
Ha, most of us can relate.
I feel like the Scrooge 1oz gold coin is involved in a lot of people's silly gold purchases.
Ha, that one always comes to mind for me too.
@@2is1gold I still want one 😬
Ahh, "First World Problems." Thank you for the video.
😄
You have an audience you could totally do whatnot.
Have you used whatnot? They’ve reached out.
To buy some fancy silver yes. The live action of it may please you. Plus its a video streaming platform so as a TH-camr totally your thing. @@2is1gold Its fun you could get engagement from your existing community. You just setup a set like you have throw some tunes on and hangout with people and sell some stuff.
Gold and silver American Eagles for the win...
You'll get bored without the weird minted coins.
i should of bought more gold instead of that usgold stock 😢😅
So the question is, will we see $200 a barrel for oil and $5 pears before the president decrees no oil will be exported? Yes, he does have the authority.
I don’t get it. You knew when you bought it you’d have to flip it on eBay.
Not always. But it's a reason to limit that kind of purchase.
The current vernacular on the internet of the word "weird" is not as extreme, but interesting
i used to collect coins in a series.
Ebay was always around 13%. so i'd mark things accordingly
so I could make something, but I would only break even at time.
All or nothing on a series and then I also try to only focus on the best series. I don't always get it right. 😄
can't win them all and that is ok.@@2is1gold
Gold for property at a peak. Hmmm.
You need two more oz of weird Gold to equal a Kilo of fun 🤩
😄
