Pete Rose is like a politician. His ability to interact and communicate is exceptional. It is just unfortunate that he has the character issues he has. His knowledge of baseball and love of the sport is clearly undeniable.
BTW, Dave was a pitcher with the White Sox and very good as he also played with the Pistons. In 1964 he decided to stick to basketball and was the Pistons player coach at age 24.
Watch Pete Rose’s face light up with a big smile whenever Stan spoke highly of him. Getting compliments from someone he admired must have meant a lot to Pete. In fact getting complimented by a baseball legend is just as meaningful as getting inducted into the Hall of Fame. So though he was never inducted into the HOF, at least Pete got the satisfaction of receiving the high honor granted to him by Stan the Man Musial.

Pete had to face some of the best pitchers that ever lived,KOUFAX DRYSDALE GIBSON SEAVER RYAN CARLTON and others the National League's pitchers were very dominant during Pete's playing years and still had 4256 hits just amazing.

When he had to have a smoke, he never smoked out in the open and in front of fans (ala Keith Hernandez) but, he would go under the bleachers so that the kids never saw a professional baseball player smoking. After what Rose has gone through, it would be real easy for him to be bitter about the game, yet his love for it is evident if you watch his recent interviews. People today in their 50s and 60s look younger then people in their 50s and 60s from 40 or more years ago. Some of those old black and white movies the actors might only be 35 but they looked 20 years older. As humans continue to evolve they are living longer and looking better and better for their age.

The consistency of Stan Musial was amazing. Of his 3630 hits 1815 were at home and 1815 hits on the road. Stan is still The Man.
I was fortunate to see Musial play once in 1960. Super player and a better man.
