As a life long Orioles fan, we always feel the same way about Brooks Robinson. It's a shame today's players don't act like these heroes of yesteryear.

Mike Shannon said it best: "Not only is Stan a Hall of Fame player, but he's also a Hall of Fame person." #6 is the extreme opposite of Barry Bonds.

The standard against which all other players should be judged against. His Cardinals beat DiMaggio's Yankees and Williams' Red Sox in the World Series. Seven batting titles. A .331 career batting average. A speedster? Well, he hit over 180 triples. Held by himself or shared 17 major league records when he retired. We won't see too many like him in the future.

What a great down to earth guy. Never heard a bad thing about him. Ty Cobb had him at the top too, of latter generation ball players.

I always wonder why there weren't or aren't Stan Musial's like him. I think about Fred Lynn and after his great year of 1975, they all started to compare him to Stan. There is only one Stan and trying to get players to be like him, just can't be done. I do think in terms of talent, Fred was a better defensive player but Stan just had that charisma that his teammates respected.

@44Snyder i played high school ball in Maryland (i'm from Toronto), my coach always called me Brooks, i played 3rd base and he would tell me that Brooks was a great defensive player...to be honest i was only 19 and dind't know who Brooks was... but once i did some research i realized it was a very high compliment. i remember the O's from the late 70's - Jim Palmer, Eddie Murray... Earl Weaver as Manager .... What happened to the once great Orioles? Why do people like Peter Angelos so much?
