Without this music, I wonder how I could overcome the depressions brought by Covid pandemic.
Rachmaninoff, who once suffered serious depression too, left this beautiful work for us as a kind of
    spiritual cure. God bless him!

Undoubtedly one of the best interpretations of this melodic adagio.

Well the LSO is one of the, if not the best Orchestra in the World.

    ラフマニノフ交響曲第2番の第3楽章は、様々な指揮者で聴いてきましたが、このプレヴィン指揮の演奏が一番好きです。

The Adagio here is 17'44''. Previn's LSO 1973 (remastered 1999) was 15'45''. Perhaps like many conductors (such as Klemperer), he slowed down as he aged. I take no position as to which version is "objectively better".
However, IMHO the 1999 remaster compressed the Dynamic Range a little too severely-- open it in a "peak file" one can see that the quiet parts are too loud and the loud parts are not loud enough. Good dynamic range makes the music come to life, as is evident in a live concert. I'm not saying I'm a better remaster engineer (I'm sure I'm not). But time was on my side-- I spent over 20 hours making this remaster, whereas, if the 1999 remaster engineer did the same, he'd likely have gotten himself fired for wasting his company's time and resources.

The 3rd part of S. Rachmaninov's e-minor symphony is one of the most amazing. It seems like a big room, where many windows open one after another, revealing a melodic line (a view) quasi "ad infinitum", in a kaleidoscopic manner, if you prefer. Along with Mahler's adagietto (5th sym.)& Tchaikovsky's "andante cantabile" from 5th symphony, in my opinion are the most expressive & sentimental slow movements ever composed.

Wow!!! This is the best version of this movement!

Great, but too slow to hear the melody properly, plus the brass section overpowers the strings halfway through the piece (7:40 >), and drown out the main melody.
The #Previn/#LSO 1973 version (1999 remaster) is the definitive one:

@@goatlps I agree 100%.The Previn 1973 recording with the LSO is my favorite recording of this. I heard him perform it with the Pittsburgh Symphony in 1974 or 75, when he was music director of the Pittsburgh, and have a signed copy of the vinyl recording, which I cherish.

Beautiful rendering of Rachmaninoff's ' loveletter' by the RPO under Previn....

I thihk that the quality of the sound & the "dynamics" of this recording have surpassed even the L.S.O's (for EMI), under the baton of the same conductor.
About 43 years ago, before a tour in U.S.S.R. with the London S. O. performing Rachmaninov's 2nd sym., A. Previn asked the 1st solo clarinettist of the London Philharmonic,if he would like to join the team,in order to perform the astonishingly beautiful solo from the beginning of the Adagio. The symphony was such a big success, that some moved russians from the audience offered Previn apples to thank him, after the end of the concert.

@@yp3424 well, it is a 1985 DDD (fully digital) recording (plus a remaster), versus a 1973 analogue one, only to be expected.
However, the superior 1973 performance was remastered in 1999:

To enjoy the rich harmony behind the first Clarinet solo may I suggest using headphones + headphones amplifier.

Kurt Sanderling / Leningrad & Andre Previn / London Sym Orch best recordings. All other recordings can be dumped into the wastepaper basket.
