Shekhar Sir, i gave NEET in 2019, and shall finish my mbbs next year. I wish to point to a tragic reality of the exam system. Sir, for example, the 67 students, who all rank 1st, will be allotted seats based on alphabetical order, that is, the first letter of their name shall decide whther they can enter aiims delhi, or not. In spite of ranking 1, there will be 21 people who cant get a seat in aiims delhi. When this phenomenon occurs at lower scores, say at 650 or 630, parameters like spelling of your name, and date of birth, come to decide whether you get a seat, or shall have to repeat the exam after 1 year, which is just tragic. The cause behind this is exactly as you mentioned - " rank inflation", but we need to realise the reason for that - the consistent lowering of the difficulty level of the exam. Unlike board exams/subjective exams, in objective exams like NEET or JEE, the tougher is the exam, the higher is the probability of someone getting a seat based on their merit, and not luck. I have attempted all the exams (for practice) from 2013 till 2019, and starting 2016, there has been a constant decline in the exam difficulty. This rot in the system is something not many are willing to talk about. I am where i am today bcoz of the seamless manner in which the exam is usually conducted, and strongly support neet exam and its organisers for the way they maintain integrity of the exam. Last time such a controversy arose was in 2015. Neet is not a disputed exam in general whereas, as stalin proposes, use of class 12 exam marks in the calculation of merit os perilous as there are rampant dummy schools in india whoch will happily award you full marks in practical exams, to tilt the scales in your balance in the class 12 exam, cbse as well as state boards. Where as neet eleminites most such human involvement by using OMR and a uniform exam pattern. But NEET needs improvement, not cancellation. 1. NEET needs to be organised multiple times a year to reduce the stress and correspondingly hogh number of suicides related to the exam, since the stress of a just 3 hours of an exam which can make or break one's future, can easily cause a mental breakdown. 2. Difficulty levels need to be seriously ramped up to restore balance and stop the extreme rank inflation which has happened messively over the past 6-7 years. 3. Grievance redressal is a big weakness of NTA, for which they need to be further pressurised, just as they are being done right now.
Something shady is going on in NEET. This needs to be fixed asap otherwise imagine the kind of doctors you will get in the future. Surgeons who don’t know the liver from the heart! Exams are the bedrock of India’s education system and must not be allowed to degenerate
It is still better than individual state exams.. Such issues may happen in states as well but not get noticed. But since it is a common exam the processes will get better as all eyes will be on it... Over a period of time it will stabilize and be good. Having said that it is surprising that grace marks were given without anyone knowing.. It looks like they were awarded grace marks based on some Supreme court formula..
There nothing wrong in accepting a mistake and rectifying it. But BJP leaders never accept their mistakes and become angry when anyone questions them. Smriti Irani, Nirmala Sitharam all are the same.
There are modern ways to randomize the questions from a large pool and conduct the test multiples times a year under video surveillance and biometric verification. The western world including America and Europe conduct countless exams using such technologies. Its a shame our babus and politicians are sure to mess up simple things beyond hope!
There will be no test paper at all. Questions will be randomly displayed on the spot. Have you ever given CAT or GRE ? There is no preset question paper in that.
This brings up flashbacks of the mess up by IIT Madras in the IITJEE 2010 where they issued the key and then followed another key while marking. This also had rank inflation as same marks in IITJEE 2009 that would give 1000 rank were giving 5000 rank in this. All the coaching institute rank predictors were wrong but funny thing was all just accepted their fate instead of going to courts
Grace was never the problem ... It was the rank inflation .... My friend who got 614 marks last year got 14k rank but this year he would have gotten 65k rank .... Even if we took out the 1600 people who got grace marks, it would still be 63.4k rank which is alot. I don't understand why no one is talking about the increased competition and lack seats !! We might be a young country but we are destroying the youth by these exams unnecessarily !!
it actually was even more difficult. The topper in our local class in Pune got a rank of 62k. He had given multiple pan India mock tests and his rank was always around
@@krishnam1 no actually he had given it last and got 614 ... We saw this year's paper, he felt the paper difficulty was slightly easier and that's just for a couple of questions not much .... But still he said that he would have increased his marks by 15 - 25 marks Max ... That still is about 40k rank which is bad !!
Similar mess up happened earlier this year for CLAT 24. There were many ambiguous questions. Ranks went for toss and lot of students had heartburn. Volumes are low and hence it didn’t get media attention. Strike rate for CLAT is less than 3% since available seats are very low.
I don't know how the poor students and students who live in hilly regions of NE would pay such high tuition fees to become a doctor? It appears these exams are designed to benefit only the street smart students of mainland india.
Shekhar ji, many congratulations to giving opportunities to young bright female reporters. Your young colleague covering this story and who was on this video with you, has inspired me and I am sure given hope and inspiration to many young girls who do not necessarily come from south Delhi English schools but are as good if not better than anyone else..
The cut-offs are getting ridiculously high. I remember 6 years back, when I scored 524 and thought I could get into the best medical college of my state, since the previous year, around 520 (should be around 5k-6k) was enough. But in 2018 I secured a 13k rank. Nevertheless, I could manage a seat in one of the newly established Government Medical colleges of my state. To see students not being able to secure a college even after scoring 650, that only toppers could bag, sounds outrageously improbable. If the questions are getting predictable and easy, an overhauling in the pattern is the need of the hour. Students wasting so many years in preparation, the looming uncertainty in the drop years and the gruelling mental burden is too much for the young children, many of whom are taking the first competitive exam in their lives. The least that could be expected is a fair examination.
UPSC conducts two 6 hour exams and 1 interview (total 12.2 hours) for Rs 100. And also checks subjective papers in Mains. NTA can't conduct just one 3 hour exam that too without subjective checking
NEET is a case of all the eggs being put in the same basket. It is a very high stakes examination as it is a single entrance test for all the UG medical courses in the country and held only once in a year. I do not envy the NTA guys with so many vultures waiting to get share of the benefits that such high stakes can lead to. To overcome the problem the stakes must be reduced. For the state quota seats the respective states should conduct their own tests as used to be earlier. NEET may be used for admission to the central govt medical colleges and for the all India quota seats in the state colleges. For the non-state quota seats in the private medical collages there should be a separate test. With such an arrangement a candidate will have the option of sitting in 3 tests. If s/he is not able to do very well in one test s/he will have the chance to do better in another! The number of candidates whose fate depends on a single test will definitely be much lower.
NEET 2024 must be conducted again. And going forward (i.e. from 2025 onwards), NEET should be made into a two-tier exam, wherein the 1st tier would have all ~25 lakh (2.5 million) odd aspirants nationwide take the exam (NEET 1). Then, NEET 2 should happen shortly after NEET 1 (like, in a month or two), for which top 1-1.5 lakh students should appear. NEET 2 should be a bit more strict exam. There should be select centers for NEET 2 in select cities, and those should have strict security norms (CCTVs, etc.). That way, it would be ensured hat only truly ensured students finally make it to the MBS colleges. This is basically the same model as as followed for JEE, i.e. admissions to various IITs.
Govt of India should take this #neet2024 scam seriously. Use these allegations seriously and investigate the entire matter. Future of India depends on students worth becoming good Doctors ❤
Your reporter is suggesting re-neet which appears to be little understanding of the issue. After, several years of hard work, students get to a good college after securing a right kind of ranking.why should all the children be punished for the unethical means adopted by some students. They should be found out, action should be taken on them.
To compare rank inflation due to increase in number of applicants, why can't you simply compare with the earlier data. Every year applicants increase in al most every exam including UPSC but that doesn't reflect in Ranking of cut off. Cut off actually depends on the number of seats and the level of difficulty of the Qs paper.
The government and the NTA have a “Mai nahi manta kar lo jo karna hai “ attitude. Best of luck for the re examination ,I heard that star lawyers are batting for the students.
That's the government response to any problem whether it is demonetisation, badly planed lockdown, Manipur and now NEET. BJP leaders are extremely arrogant and never accept their mistakes. Be humble accept and rectify your mistake that's all the people want. I am sure that they will be taught a lesson by the people in the upcoming Maharashtra state assembly elections. Jaisi karni waisi bharni.
Middle class is biggest supporter of BJP and competitive exam is biggest thing in the life of a middle class family. If BJP will not take serious action and arrest the culprits then it will suffer very badly in the Maharashtra state assembly elections due in a few months. I have been BJP supporter all my life but I will not vote for BJP henceforth if they do not rectify this.
The truth is that nearly every serious aspirant whether he or she will admit or not has scored 30-40 above what he or she used to get in mock tests and that's why the cutoff has soared so much. In my own coaching centre in Durgapur (West Bengal), last time just 3 students scored 700+ but this time it's 12 so 4 times rank inflation is justified. Most aspirants have forgot that rank (percentile) is what that matters and not numbers. If Re-NEET is conducted again, genuine hard working aspirants like myself from Bengal will have to go through the enormous mental pressure of NEET once again for some f*cking Bihari cheater and I AM NOT READY FOR THAT. (PS:- I have scored 691 marks in NEET 2024 with a rank of 4082. Though I am DISAPPOINTED with my rank but bearing the mental pressure of NEET again is UNBEARABLE)
Give UPSC to conduct all government examinations, after all why not? A clean government organization with no stains on it's collar, efficient management, low cost of operation, credible and transparent sop and national trust. It must be entrusted with all all India level examinations and given the authority to overlook the state level examinations.
Very good episode... summarising the message in a clear way...my niece is a sufferer....she has got 670 and hardly any good colleges...it is tragic...then we say why our bright minds go outside
As someone pointed out, one very important issue is the declining difficulty in questions which leads to inflation in better ranks. Questions should be such that not a single student must get 720/720 in my opinion. Not exaggerating. I'm a PhD student in NIPER, an elite national pharmaceutical institute. Even the best student will have a lot to study even if he/she is doing a single speciality course in just one sub-subject in science. Here are four science subjects. How come students score 720/720?!
Very inspiring to see someone as big as Shekhar Gupta is mentoring and young people , others who are as experienced as him or even less should also give back to society and mentor youngsters .its very very important to pass on your knowledge and experience to next generation . Just like passing on genetics is a duty passing on knowledge is also equally important .

GLARING ABNORMALITIES MISSED IN NEET 2024 RESULT Year 2022- No. of candidates appeared - 17,64,571 Year 2023 - No. of candidates appeared - 20,38,596 - an increase of 15.5 % from the previous year Year 2024- No. of candidates appeared - 23,33,297 - an increase of 14.4% from the previous year. Then why such a huge jump in All India Rank of students when paper standard was almost same as of 2023? Also, why this huge jump in cut off marks for MBBS in All India Govt medical colleges? The average has increased by just 27 marks which normally distributes more in marks range between 300-500 and less in extreme ends. But this year strangely, this has distributed heavily in the upper marks range i. e. between 550-720. So much so that almost 75% of 1,51,632 additional qualified candidates than previous year, have come in the marks range of 550-720 which is abnormal because it did not happen in 2023 when similar jump in total candidates was witnessed. Also, the 50th percentile marks range in 2022 was 720-117 and the candidates qualified were 8,81,402. In 2023, it was 720-137 when 10,14,372 candidates qualified. In year 2024, it is 720-164 and 11,65,904 candidates qualified. It means 1,51,632 more candidates have qualified in '24 and should distribute evenly as per previous years’ pattern between marks range 720-164. But strangely, students’ ranks have risen in the marks range of 600-720 from 28000 to 81000. This further tells us that out of those extra qualified students of 1,51,632 approx. 53,000 students have come in marks bracket of 600-720!!This is highly unlikely and questionable. A thorough analysis and inquiry by an independent team including statisticians of high credibility will corroborate the paper leak apprehension completely.
Time lost in an offline exam in one center. The head of that center can on the spot give extra time. What's the point of giving grace marks? There's is a scam looks like the education minister needs to keep his bags packed. And say good soon.
UPSC is written by students from poorer sections of the public with little capacity to pay their way through it. NEET is written mostly by rich - particularly sons and daughters of doctors with a capacity to pay. That is why NEET is a such a rich haul for the corrupt
Will like to point another on how these exams are being conducted, For example I live in Gurgaon, there 100s of well reputed schools in city, around 4-5 in the sector I live in , they will need around 10 to 20 schools for exam conduction however they choose some shady private schools in remote Suburban areas of Gurgaon like damdama lake or Manesar etc where they so poor access to everything. mind it these are not public schools or government schools these are some private schools where this exam is being conducted . I don't know if is to facilitate some kind of malpractices as the schools in themselves are quite shady with inappropriate invigilators and poor accountability. Why I am pointing out this is that Mr Shekhar Gupta correctly pointed to the fact that a high amount of examination fees is being charged compared to UPSC and despite that they are not able to conduct a fair exam so is it a deliberate action from the side of administration to rig the exam and not let the right candidates get into the right colleges
There is a MDCAT exam in Pakistan like NEET with similar complaints from time to time . With AI coming and robots doing operation may be doctors demand may decrease . Private medical colleges have become a leech it seems on both sides of border . After 50 years I doubt people will become doctors . It is becoming more difficult , less enumerative with every decade
Corruption in North India shouldn't ruin entire India, hope there is upsc level scrutiny, as this is related to lives, medicine and lives, as imp as civil service if not more
Ye sab to thik hai but why no one is asking the question why students are so desperate to crack this exams. The answer is our education system hi aisa hi you literally get no skill after years of padhai. The whole education system in india is scam. Agar koi 3 saal mechanic ka kaam karega then he would have more knowledge and information than most of mechanical engineers. People are fucked if they don't get into good colleges. Abhi to thik college se bhi placement nahi mil raha. I don't know kya nya education policy laya aur kya hi kuch thik kiya. Also when people are educated they feel ashmed to job like carpenter or this kind of job which again created educated people sitting in homes. Amount of fee for mbbs is absurdly high ki abhi garib ka bachha to galti se bhi mbbs banneki kosis nahi karsakta.. and i see no one questioning this to government even opposition bhi agar galtise karbhi de they usually do only for their politics. my cousin left India after 12, 3 years ago and now is earning himself paying his college fee and supporting himself. In some month he will get his degree and most probably get a job that too almost insured and here i am giving entrance exams parse exam still a 12 class pass only.. this scam was the last straw which break my rastra prem ka vab now i will be leaving this country soon..😢. Good luck guys fighting the shit system and shit government and governance. Goodbye..
Does anyone know in 2016-2017 NEET PG was conducted for 7 days with 2 sessions each day , that is 14 different papers for the same batch and they got away with it telling they used some psychometric analysis for that. There was not much active social media news or outrage that time , students suffered and nothing really happened. Imagine yourself 14 different papers for same exam on same batch u can get any one of those papers your may be easy or difficult no one knows and you have worked hard for years to write these.
SUPREME COURT SHOULD ASK FOR A REPORT FROM PATNA POLICE REGARDING PROGRESS OF INVESTIGATION. WHETHER ALL CANDIDATES WHO GOT THE LEAKED PAPER COULD BE IDENTIFIED. WHETHER NTA HAS HELPED PATNA POLICE.
Scoring low in a lower class examination but topping University at higher classes, like Shekharji says about himself can also be due to the subject you select for further studies. I can give my own example. I scored just 50% marks in my interscience. Then I opted for Microbiology for graduation and I topped the ranking at the final year BSc (and later at Masters as well) examination. I fell in love with the subject I studied. Similarly, my daughter did poorly in her 12th and the entrance exam but later topped at the Masters degree in veterinary science, her passion!! 😀
The paper did leak.. my sins friend's sister got it in a whatsapp group..she never solved the paper thinking it was fake..but she came home and compared and it was the paper..this is really pathetic..the kids really work hard 😢
Sir, I am pretty sure this time the deserved ones like Surabhi are thrown away may be because of manipulations.. Irregularities.... not taking fare decisions like cancelling the exam ones it was known that paper leaked on 4th may. Everything looks fishy and now trust has been lost when they were denying that grace were given by them through normalisation by looking at the time loss, now they are reconducting Reneet for the same 1536 students.. Again how is it fair doing the same to them... The whole exam system was totally failure.
Its shameful for the government and the concerned authorities that they can't come clean and satisfy the people regarding the xam been conducted rightly, without any wrongdoings. If a national level exam is facing such issues, no wonder that many states cancel the exams or nullify the results with allegations same as that against NTA. Saddening to see the aspirants go through all this after preparing all these sleepless days and nights.
Only solution is retest for All Students. But for students who really did well fairly, it will be a heartbroke. Present NTA should be dismantled for this fiasco, Education Minister should take the responsibility.
Explain very NICELY. & CLEARLY..THANKS FOR GOOD NARRATIVE.... EVEN THOUGH I AM 76..I UNDERSTAND LUCKY WE HAD INTER SCIENC , MUMBAI UNIVERSITY.. WITH PCB FOR MEDICAL & PCM FOR ENGINEERING.. NO GRADE..DIRECT MERIT NUMBERS...🎉
A student can study medicine in government college with low fees and then go abroad as doctors. The students studying in government college must not be allowed to take jobs abroad and if they want they have to pay fees of private colleges.
This is not the 1st time the scam has taken place in NEET . In 2019 my son gave the exam and when the key was out we were sure he would get in a college in Kolkata (govt). Suddenly the NTA found that 3/4 questions had 2 answers were right and the ranks went hayway many parents went to court but as the magnanimity was less everything was shut down . As there was no answereablety then the NTA did this in larger scale this time . Hope this will stop after you taking this up thank you .
Frankly am amazed. Is it senior editor LIKE SHEKHAR who is discussing perils of medical students with such amazement...without discussing the core problem on hand...as if he has ZERO CLUE ABOUT WHAT A MEDICO GOESTHROUGH IN INDIA..I.e Reservations...WITH OR WITHOUT PAPER LEAKS...THIS IS THE REASON WHY THE SO CALLED INTELLIGENT GIRL DOSENT GET TO GET INTO MEDICINE
Just saying while comparing UPSC & NTA it's important to remember that UPSC is a constitutional body like the election commission & the CAG & doesn't fall under any ministry.
I remember I appeared for medical entrance test long back. I never dared to attempt again. I feel sad for the students who are deserving and worked hard for the exam.
NTA should check all NEET score > 600 and total 12th marks in PCB. < 200 NTA should release how many peoples got this scenario and any mal practise happened in this pattern marks
Beautiful reporting Mr. Gupta… thank you… one small request, please do not call students going to the court demanding their rights as cry babies (even if you did not mean that)… it takes courage to fight the system to make the world better… 🙏🙏🙏🙏
In reasonable limits it is nearly impossible that there will be 6 toppers all India rank number 1 from a single centre in Jhajjar versus nearly 4700 centres all across the India .All they say that the paper has not been leaked as the police has not really caught anybody at that centre but that does that means that this entire neet exam was so beautifully rigged up that people are not able to catch the depth of malpractice in conduction of the exam. Probably there is a whole system of admin and government involved in earning money from the desperate parents and candidates to secure a medical college seat
Public Service examinations are 'subjective' answer types where there is a lot of freedom for assessment by assessors. Moreover these examinations have been conducted since ages literally, right from British times. Therefore the machinery there is settled and well oiled. Besides, the candidates appearing are also adults. The NEET is fairly new and is completely 'objective' where the result is either + or -, no two ways about it. No middle, unlike in the UPSC. This, is the problem. That's also why we see this 'rank inflation!'
I thought NEET was supposed to solve issues such as this! 😅... But also PM is quite worried about exam stress and everything, right? Why didn't he say anything about this yet? At least assurances from him! Oh wait, he is now in transit... Well let's just enjoy Melodi memes for now! 🤷🏾♂️
Nootan! You did a wonderful job explaining this issue. It would be useful to learn why states like Tamil Nadu with exceptional educational infrastructure is opposing this examination! Thanks

Unjust to compare charges, the type of exam centers one get with UPSC is pathetic mostly government schools/colleges. Even then, UPSC is definitely being subsidised for conducting exams.

Maybe the exam this time was too easy? That leads to rank inflation...But then a tougher exam would have resulted in
it actually was even more difficult.
I feel that the big corporate coaching centers have somehow cracked the Q bank from which the NEET test may have been prepared.
Why students who got delayed question paper cud not b given extra time
Very refreshing, candid tone and responses from Nutan !!
Loved to see someone who can match the spontaneity of Shekhar 😊
Excellent CTC, clearly articulated the issues and concerns. Mr Gupta, your protege did well!
67. toppers. ? @720 thats a nonsensical exam desighned badly ...
If students and parents are ready to pay for re- examination why Government is not allowing it. Government should give other agencies to conduct exam.
How do you think the sons and daughters of ministers of India gets admission in premium institutions
Forget about grace marks for 1500 people and shit, explain me this astronomical increase in rank?
there was a paper leak & re-examination in UPSC mains in Ranchi in the year 1989.

Shame on NTA and on the current government
Modi seems to be in a blissful ignorance mode
Modi is not ignorant, he conveniently ignores.
Great no nonsense well researched video that explained the mess!
Give UPSC to conduct all government examinations, after all why not? A clean government organization with no stains on it's collar, efficient management, low cost of operation, credible and transparent sop and national trust. It must be entrusted with all all India level examinations and given the authority to overlook the state level examinations.
Paper has been leaked across the country in widespread scale 😢
Paper was easier this year, which could lead to a higher cut off score. 650 is nothing this year 😂
Very good episode... summarising the message in a clear way...my niece is a sufferer....she has got 670 and hardly any good colleges...it is tragic...then we say why our bright minds go outside
Next to be asked USPS interview question is 'What part of the system in India has Remain Un-scammed?'

GLARING ABNORMALITIES MISSED IN NEET 2024 RESULT
Year 2022- No. of candidates appeared - 17,64,571
Year 2023 - No. of candidates appeared - 20,38,596 - an increase of 15.5 % from the previous year
Year 2024- No. of candidates appeared - 23,33,297 - an increase of 14.4% from the previous year.
Also,
the 50th percentile marks range in 2022 was 720-117 and the candidates qualified were 8,81,402.
Correction 24:22 UPSC charges ₹100 for OBC and General Male candidates

96k seats also include private college seats so for govt college we have only 50k seats plus reservation in it, so the general success rate is just 1%
Corruption in North India shouldn't ruin entire India, hope there is upsc level scrutiny, as this is related to lives, medicine and lives, as imp as civil service if not more
Ye sab to thik hai but why no one is asking the question why students are so desperate to crack this exams.

Well said S G
Explanation is too good
Thanks
Thats why paper should not be conducted during elections
Such a shame for the authorities who are tossing and playing away with the fortunes of students.
Great to see Shekhar mentoring young, passionate journalists.
Thank you shekhar ji for raising this topic
❗️❗️❗️❗️ What if it is proved on 8th July that paper got leaked . Will they have a 3rd ReNeet ?
The paper did leak.. my sins friend's sister got it in a whatsapp group..she never solved the paper thinking it was fake..but she came home and compared and it was the paper..this is really pathetic..the kids really work hard 😢
What are the credentials of boss of NTA … ?? I hope SG would have critically analysed
Nutan’s work was amazing.
Thank you 🙏
Sir, I am pretty sure this time the deserved ones like Surabhi are thrown away may be because of manipulations..
Such an important issue, please keep the discussion in English so everyone can understand.
Very balanced analysis as always.
Only solution is retest for All Students. But for students who really did well fairly, it will be a heartbroke. Present NTA should be dismantled for this fiasco, Education Minister should take the responsibility.
States will have to protect their medical seats against this hopeless NEET agency. Farce cram exam where student cram for years like sports training.
NTA EPFO SSA recruitment exam ka bhi doubt hai... Original score was not declared, they gave only normalised score
Explain very NICELY. & CLEARLY..THANKS FOR GOOD NARRATIVE....
EVEN THOUGH I AM 76..I UNDERSTAND
LUCKY WE HAD INTER SCIENC , MUMBAI UNIVERSITY..
WITH PCB FOR MEDICAL &
PCM FOR ENGINEERING..

Beautiful reporting Mr. Gupta… thank you… one small request, please do not call students going to the court demanding their rights as cry babies (even if you did not mean that)… it takes courage to fight the system to make the world better… 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Completely messed up by NTA. The person heading this organization should be taken to task.

Why mr SG is not lambasting the Minister and PM for such incompetence
There is no need to white wash ECI here. Justification of ECI better do with analysis of their deeds.
