You can save money by buying septic safe toilet paper. It dissolves in water and is more comfortable to use than the expensive RV & marine stuff. Jon in rural BC, Canada
I use my hand held vacuum for insects especially flys. Just turn on and slowly move the nozzle to a fly. They don't see it as a natural enemy by the time they do they get sucked up. This leaves no insect guts splatter from swatters.
You have great followers... there's lots of excellent suggestions :>) My only additions are, your drill should have a switch (gear shift) on top so you can put it into 2 and it will go slower and have more power. That will help save the battery and you can adjust the stabilizers more precisely. And, Torque Wrench care and maintenance. When not being used a torque wrench should be set to its lowest setting. This keeps the spring from stretching out (the thing that determines how hard it's working) over time. When you use the wrench you only push until it clicks. Really, the torque setting for any nut or bolt is for a moving torque. It takes a bunch more torque to make something move after it has been torqued. But, that doesn't mean don't check the torque on the lug nuts regularly. Now that you're a camper owner you'll notice all the wrecks on the Freeways from tires falling off and hitches not latched, etc., so always keep an eye on the important stuff so you can enjoy camping... not waiting for the wrecker to show up :>) P.S. If you ever find a lose lug nut make sure and have that looked at. Something is wrong if one comes lose. P.S.S. Leveling your camper is super important. Remember, you're freezing your ice cream with a flame. (I'm assuming you have a 110v/propane fridge). That little flame that makes the fridge cold needs to go straight up to work the best. Short periods of time unlevel isn't the end of the world but if you're going to be going in and out of the Fridge the camper really needs to be level on all axys. Love the videos!!!
Good episode! Only thing you’re missing that I think is essential is Air filter purifier(Happi brand), after spending all last summer trying to avoid forest fire smoke in the Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah and Colorado, it made days tolerable!
Sarah, use that water pressure regulator. Summer '23 I was at Top of Georgia Airstream Park in GA and arrived late at night so I rushed setup in the dark. I hooked up without mine on and the pressure was so high that it blew my Airstream regulator and flooded my floor which I noticed the next morning! During my cleanup all day the next day, I learned that two neighbors had the same thing happening to their Airstreams. I do not have snap pads because I almost always have quite a distance between the stabilizer and the ground. I ended up making portable wooden platforms. That way I have the height and the platform insulator from ground to jack too.
Walgreens carries a brand of TP called “Big” that’s designed for RV & septic systems. We discovered it years ago when we found out our cast iron plumbing to the house was failing & haven’t looked back (even after having the plumbing upgraded). IDK if it’s possible to attach a bidet attachment to your camper toilet, but it would save on the amount of TP you use. There are 2 types: one that attaches under the seat with the controls on the side (Tushy makes a good one), or one that is a handheld sprayer that you aim at your essentials to clean. You can then dry yourself with a hand towel (just don’t confuse the hand towel you use on your face & hands…although if you clean your essentials right, or use a small wad of TP to be sure it’s clean, you won’t have to worry too much if you confuse them). I’ve recently gotten the camping bug again after more than 20 years (we had a Jayco pop-up camper when our kids were young & went camping a lot but as they grew older we went less & less & ended up selling it) & opened the shed that we stored all of our old camping gear to find 20 years of storage isn’t good for camping gear (duh, lol). So we would really be starting from scratch. Your videos are so informative & like having a checklist of things that are needed on top of buying the camper.

Good video. Thanks. I was around for a 'surge event'. They are indeed rare. $40,000 in digital gear all plugged in, power company sent 500 volts through the building. Two surge protectors a $10 cheapy and a $45. The $10 smoked and died, the $45 just made a click sound, no smoke. All the gear was protected! both protectors were toast. Well worth having. I like GFIs as well. (And in a thunderstorm - meaning if you hear thunder there is lightning close enough to wipe out your electronics. Unplug your electronics. You can still use WiFi, Starlink (works great btw) but your laptop etc won't get fried. I was on a sailboat this year, lightning strike hundreds of feet away, temporarily scrambled the autopilot, a little closere and we could've permanently lost expensive gear.) That filter, pressure regulator is a lot of weight on that hose connection. What might be prudent is to pop-rivet a D ring onto the side of your trailer and then just tie a string to take the weight off the connector. (Best knot would be the Magnus Hitch. It would support the weight and always be easy to untie. A simpler method would be to just add a small carabiner to the end that hooks to the D-ring.) Water connections like that tend to degrade from any movement, which definitely includes surges caused by turning taps on and off. And my long experience with plumbing is that if it does it'll be at night when no one is using water and the pressure peaks. Scissors. If you ever have trouble cutting anything, look up kevlar shears on Amazon. I've got a couple pairs of Claus shears (one at home one on my sailboat). I learned about these trying to cut Kevlar. They're great all around including dyneema string and that mattress vent-pad. (I've got scissors, kitchen shears, tinsnips, knives, etc... these shears definitely fill the gaps.) You could probably chase off a bear with a good fly swatter if you've you've got a fast swing and get its nose. And remember flies always take off backward, so come at them from behind.
Just started watching, and although I have been rv'ing for years it is fun to live vicariously through your adventures. Couple comments to this list. For sewer add a clear extension that goes between your sewer outlet and sewer hose. Makes it easy to monitor color of water as you flush tanks. Next get a 90 degree brass elbow for your water line that goes between the hose and the camper. It takes the weight pressure of the hose, filter, and pressure regulator off the i let threads. Third levelmate pro device, best invention ever. For your black tank go with happy camper powder. None of that horrible formaldehyde smell. Use borax and dawn to further flush your blackwater tank, you wont have to use perfume to cover smells. Lastly, stay safe out there, you are a very cute young lady. Be aware of your surroundings and have a plan to defend yourself.
An “L” attachment for your water hose to reduce torsional stress on the connection at the trailer. And put the pressure regulator next to the source/spigot. Makes things lots easier.
This helped me a lot when I first got my Airstream. I initially set it up like in the video and water went everywhere. I moved the spigot, the regulator, and the filter to the source and it went well.
Always torque wheels and check tires before every trip. 1 mile to 2000 miles. Lastly always do a complete pre trip inspection of veh & trailer, it’s the safe thing to do.

I wanna recommend something fun. A salt gun! You put regular table salt in the chamber and it shoots out salt to kill flies, works better than the swatter and its fun too.
My wife & I purchased a 2016 Classic. We had sold EVERYTHING we owned and went full time in the Airstream. I had a huge pool of money and was able to special order an F250 and fully decked out the rear of the truck as an additional "room". Sadly, that lifestyle only works for some, not all. The only thing I have left is 1 Airstream pillow. Worst time of my life....
Very nice video ! Your Airstream looks like a 22 footer ? We have a 2008 Safari model that's a 22 footer , & the thing that we like about it is the full width dry bathroom at the rear ! You did a great job covering everything you need for your travel trailer ! The only thing that will vary is your weight distribution , & anti sway system , & that will be based on your tow vehicle ! I have a full size p/u truck that handles towing the camper without the need for all the previously mentioned items. & don't forget the trash receptacles indoor , & outdoor , My wife found a really neat one for outside that gets strapped to the outside awning brace that collapses flat, & has a zipper at the top ! & is water proof , & holds a 50 gallon trash bag inside. Thanks for the video ! & have fun 😊.

Torquing your wheel lug nuts is not necessary with each trip being mechanical. Tire pressure can change with both weather and atmospheric changes - excellent idea to monitor. Love your channel!
Great video. As you travel, you will discover more that you do not need. As far as TP, we use regular good old Charmin. Also, black tank deodorizers can be a DIY. Cheaper and no harmful chemicals. Safe travels
I never hitch up without clear Gorilla duct tape in my tool bag. Great for temporary repairs of broken toilet seats, leaky windows and hanging wires. Clear because it's esthetically (pathetically) neutral. Love your videos!!!

I will be going off grid at some point and will spend a year learning to live in park service first as am newbie, and it is not my intention to rely on others for repairs.
If you are moving alot, you might want tire pressure monitor for inside your tug. keep an eye on them tires. you will have a flat/blow out sometime. You also want to change them tires every three years, especially if it is sitting for a bit. worth it.
Think I noticed on your first AS vid.......you have 20 gallon LP tanks but they are stored in a 30 gallon container. That big leveling kit you store in your trunk would probably fit beautifully..........unless you already have 'stuff' in there.
We were in Colorado at the Great Sand Dunes and the mosquitos were so bad we literally thought it was raining outside. We realized it was just the bugs hitting our camper. We opened the door for just a second at night and must of had 300 mosquitos fly in!!! Turn on all the light and fire up the hand held vacuum and within 15 minutes they were all taken care of. It was the only time in my life that I thought vacuuming was fun! lol
We have a Caravel. A year old now. Curious if you’ve checked out a front hitch pad? Many people I’ve seen use blocks (it may get stuck in the mud) we use a red bucket thing specifically designed to lower that front hitch onto so it won’t get stuck in the mud.
Also, a good TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) is extremely valuable. And get a rider replacement kit to replace any rivets that have sheared heads.
Found your channel today and have been binge watching it. Excited to continue to watch your journey!! 100% agree with the fly swatter! 😆 We're only part-time RVers but in the summer we've found that our black tank can smell in between dumping, especially while boondocking. This simple step we added to our "get the RV ready to travel" checklist has been a game changer! We carry a jug of laundry detergent. Pour just enough to cover the flap in the toilet and flush it down. When you're traveling to your next site or even to dump, it helps break up/suds up the contents of your black tank as contents are moving around in there anyways as you're driving.
Hi Sarah, great video as I am looking at Airstreams as well. Very helpful. Regarding your water filter. I have heard negative things about “zero” filters. I have heard you need some mineralization in the water, otherwise the water can actually leach mineralization from your body. Also need it to make good coffee :). Just other opinions I have heard. Hope you continue to enjoy this experience!
The story about needing minerals in the water is false. RO home water filters remove all minerals and are consider the best form of water purification. The leaching bit is a falsehood propagated by alternate purification techniques. The amount of minerals contributed to the body by water is a tiny fraction of what the body gets from food. Also alkaline minerals are the ones you want, but there are no economic systems to filter only the acidic minerals, however there ways to add alkiline minerals to filtered water if that’s what you want to do.

Try to stay away from Travel trailer dealers for things, check online and at stores like Walmart and Target. I love the torque wrench, just make sure it is calibrated and you use the proper torque for your wheels (and you can never check them enough) Fly swatters, you can never have enough. You are looking good and have a good mindset with the trailer.
Cool video. Have you thought about Apple Air Tags hidden in your airstream. Just in case some worthless person does the unthinkable and steals your airstream somehow.

Like what are we talking about? Lots of spiders and garden variety flies? How are those little creatures getting in? I was thinking the aluminum solid structure would be tight fitting so sealed pretty good.
Thank you!! Yes, mostly spiders and flies, but sometimes other bugs too. Something has to be open and not sealed properly, I just can’t locate it. There’s lots of potential places like under the bed, behind the cabinets, etc. Places that are impossible to reach/look due to the cabinetry.
Is that a 2022 Caravel 22 FB? If so, watch your laminated cabinets carefully. In April pretty much every single white panel in my Caravel started peeling off.
I've developed a touchpad lock specifically for Airstream. It installs easily without requiring ANY modification to the door or strike. Would you be interested in giving it a fair review? I think it's really slick, but who ever thinks their own baby is ugly?
At 2:27 you seem to be running your emergency breakaway cable down with your safety chains. I don't think that is wise...could be "hooked" and the pin would pull. Consider another place...up on the tongue for instance.
Used dryer sheets and water easly removes bugs from the front end of the camper along with the front of your vehicle. No need for chemicals or power washer to remove dead bugs.
RV toilet paper is murderously expensive. The real trick to buy 1 ply TP, regular TP that most of us use at home is 2 ply. The 1 ply will not gum up your black tank sensor and is available at any grocery store.
With your brake controller, it's always a good idea to have the app open and your phone accessible whenever your driving. If the tail of your trailer starts to wobble, it can cause a wreck. Applying the brakes to the trailer only can arrest the wobble and save you from a fatality. It would certainly save you enough so that you can slow down, pull over and find out why you trailer has started to wag the dog.

If you are moving alot, you might want tire pressure monitor for inside your tug. keep an eye on them tires. you will have a flat/blow out sometime. You also want to change them tires every three years, especially if it is sitting for a bit. worth it.

Think I noticed on your first AS vid.......you have 20 gallon LP tanks but they are stored in a 30 gallon container. That big leveling kit you store in your trunk would probably fit beautifully..........unless you already have 'stuff' in there.
a portable vacuum works good on dirt and bugs! You can pluck them right out of the air! lol Great List!!
We were in Colorado at the Great Sand Dunes and the mosquitos were so bad we literally thought it was raining outside. We realized it was just the bugs hitting our camper. We opened the door for just a second at night and must of had 300 mosquitos fly in!!! Turn on all the light and fire up the hand held vacuum and within 15 minutes they were all taken care of. It was the only time in my life that I thought vacuuming was fun! lol
We have a Caravel. A year old now. Curious if you’ve checked out a front hitch pad? Many people I’ve seen use blocks (it may get stuck in the mud) we use a red bucket thing specifically designed to lower that front hitch onto so it won’t get stuck in the mud.
Also, a good TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) is extremely valuable. And get a rider replacement kit to replace any rivets that have sheared heads.

We're only part-time RVers but in the summer we've found that our black tank can smell in between dumping, especially while boondocking. This simple step we added to our "get the RV ready to travel" checklist has been a game changer!
We carry a jug of laundry detergent. Pour just enough to cover the flap in the toilet and flush it down. When you're traveling to your next site or even to dump, it helps break up/suds up the contents of your black tank as contents are moving around in there anyways as you're driving.
Dawn is for ducks and Black tanks. 1/8 cup after every dump.

Hi Sarah, great video as I am looking at Airstreams as well. Very helpful. Regarding your water filter. I have heard negative things about “zero” filters. I have heard you need some mineralization in the water, otherwise the water can actually leach mineralization from your body. Also need it to make good coffee :). Just other opinions I have heard. Hope you continue to enjoy this experience!
The story about needing minerals in the water is false. RO home water filters remove all minerals and are consider the best form of water purification. The leaching bit is a falsehood propagated by alternate purification techniques. The amount of minerals contributed to the body by water is a tiny fraction of what the body gets from food. Also alkaline minerals are the ones you want, but there are no economic systems to filter only the acidic minerals, however there ways to add alkiline minerals to filtered water if that’s what you want to do.

Sarah, when u get a chance to explore central WA state, put Lake Chelan on top of your list.
Try to stay away from Travel trailer dealers for things, check online and at stores like Walmart and Target. I love the torque wrench, just make sure it is calibrated and you use the proper torque for your wheels (and you can never check them enough) Fly swatters, you can never have enough. You are looking good and have a good mindset with the trailer.

Another totally excellent informative video by Sarah! Just love your personality, makes your vids fun and well as informative. One question I have is about those pests you swat. Like what are we talking about? Lots of spiders and garden variety flies? How are those little creatures getting in? I was thinking the aluminum solid structure would be tight fitting so sealed pretty good.
Thank you!! Yes, mostly spiders and flies, but sometimes other bugs too. Something has to be open and not sealed properly, I just can’t locate it. There’s lots of potential places like under the bed, behind the cabinets, etc. Places that are impossible to reach/look due to the cabinetry.

Is that a 2022 Caravel 22 FB? If so, watch your laminated cabinets carefully. In April pretty much every single white panel in my Caravel started peeling off.

I've developed a touchpad lock specifically for Airstream. It installs easily without requiring ANY modification to the door or strike. Would you be interested in giving it a fair review? I think it's really slick, but who ever thinks their own baby is ugly?

At 2:27 you seem to be running your emergency breakaway cable down with your safety chains. I don't think that is wise...could be "hooked" and the pin would pull. Consider another place...up on the tongue for instance.

Used dryer sheets and water easly removes bugs from the front end of the camper along with the front of your vehicle. No need for chemicals or power washer to remove dead bugs.

hello Sarah. question have you registered the trailer in California yet ? If so was it a hard process
RV toilet paper is murderously expensive. The real trick to buy 1 ply TP, regular TP that most of us use at home is 2 ply. The 1 ply will not gum up your black tank sensor and is available at any grocery store.

With your brake controller, it's always a good idea to have the app open and your phone accessible whenever your driving.
If the tail of your trailer starts to wobble, it can cause a wreck. Applying the brakes to the trailer only can arrest the wobble and save you from a fatality. It would certainly save you enough so that you can slow down, pull over and find out why you trailer has started to wag the dog.
