I'm also 6'2" on an XL 2021 instinct, Was so freaked out when the reach numbers were released before I had the bike in my hands. However, riding it, it doesn't feel big. I echo your thoughts that it fits like a glove. Have had mine since April and its been the most fun bike I've owned. I have settled on Position 3 (Nuetral Geo, Progressive Shock) setting for terrain in my area and love that I can toss it in full slack on steeper terrain days and or even throw it in full steep mode on flat xc type days. The ride9 makes for such a wide range of adjustment and bike feel. My only regret is that I just couldn't afford the Carbon model. My A50 still provides enough fun even with the slight weight penalty. Absolute blast of a bike to ride. So nice to hear your review on how it stacks up against the rest of the pack. Cheers.

Super stoked to see you guys get Rocky! I have a 2020 Instinct and absolutely love it. I tried several bikes and the Rocky was the one that immediately felt "right". The geo, the agility, the playfulness of the bike, all make for an incredibly capable package on any trail I ride.

I like that you talk about smooth climbing efficiency and tech climbing traction as two different things. I have this bike, LOVE IT, and you nailed the review. It is also cool the Rocky specs their bikes with parts that you actually want. Aside from putting a smaller chainring on for my Dad-legs, and adding Tannus inserts, I left it stock. Nothing else needed to be changed.

Bought an altitude and I'm about to turn it into a instinct. That along with the ride 9 and chain stay flip is like having 4 bikes in one. Excited to see how the instinct compares to the alitutde on the local terrorsled laps.

I have this bike. Upped the fork to a 160mm. Added the different shock mount for the Altitude and a Fox Float X2 160mm shock and now I have an "Institude!". Basically a 160/160mm Altitude. Since the Altitude and Instinct share the same frame, it's almost like getting 2 bikes in one. I switch back and forth depending on where I'm riding. Only takes me about 10 minutes to swap. Either way, Rockys are excellent and super fun to ride. Great review as always and excited that you're carrying them now!

I have a 21 Instinct C90 and setting 9 (steep/progressive) is my favorite by far. The bike is most balanced in this position IMO. Also a huge selling point is that the Instinct/Altitude frame is the same. 2 bikes in one👍🏻. I really love this bike and look forward to buying shock/fork at some point to swap to the Altitude. I also have a Ripley V4.

Hey Conner. This is great news. Great review as always.
So I ended up buying a home in Santa Clara right near the trail entrance to Barrel Roll, Sidewinder, Precipice, etc. I now need a longer travel bike than my Transition Spur for the ST. George area. I am torn between a few bikes, and this Instinct and the Altitude are on the top of my list.
My main goal is a bike that can climb really well as I will be riding right from my house up all these trails, and even over to and up Paradise Rim, over to Zen, etc. I am not a young man and just don't have the ability to climb like a young man so it is important to have a great climber, and something not too heavy as well.
I could really use your expertise and experience with all the bikes you get to ride as to what couple you would recommend for riding up all the hills in the St. George area, and coming back down as well. I already have a 2021 SC Hightower that I want to leave here in Phoenix as it works great for the trails here. So other than the excellent Hightower, what are a couple of recommendations? Instinct? Altitude? Ripmo? How much travel do I really need? I am thinking 140 minimum, 160 maximum. Again, I am not a young man.
Also, I love the Sentinel but, Both my Hightower and Spur are greyish and a dont want another greyish bike. And I just don't like that Honey colored one at all. Also, i think the aluminum versions are a little too heavy, (I do like the blue though). Oh, and I kinda got my eye on the 2022 Mondraker Foxy as well.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Thanks for the review. I'm a travel nurse and looking for a bike that can handle a wide variety of trails. I'm 54 y/o and a good rider. I'm not looking for big jumps and massive drops, just like to go fast and stable, rail some corner etc.... without being to bogged down on the more XC/ flow trails. I'll most likely be traveling Midwest, south, and south east states with my home base in Michigan. The Instinct sounds like it could be the bike. Wondering if you had any suggestions especially with availability? Love the channel, thanks.

The Instinct would be awesome for a fo everything bike if you're not getting after it on the DH. If you want a more stable bike, I"d recommend the SB130 or Hightower. The Instinct isn't the most stable option. It's the most fun on that list, though.

With your knowledge of the trails there, which one of these bikes would you buy as the best all arounder for the area, and for riding to and from the trails, and all the ups and downs? There are a couple options here. Personally, I like to ride the tougher trails (Grafton and Hurricane Area). I want a bigger burlier bike for that kind of stuff. I think the Sentinel is perfect for being able to ride every trail in the area. It will still be fun on the easier stuff too. You'll pay a bit of a climbing penalty, though. If you're avoiding the bigger trails and mostly sticking to the Santa Clara stuff, I think an Occam, Trance X, Instinct, or Ripmo would be great. You could even get away with a Ripley or Tallboy if you're not getting after it on the DH. Those will climb better but will sacrifice DH capability.

So for me the climbing is most important, especially when it is hot. As I said, I know all these bike will go down hill great, but I am looking for the one that stands out on the uphill's, as that is the hardest part for me.
The Spur works great, I just get a little over my head at times with how good that bike goes downhill, and just want a littlie more forgiveness on the steeper more rocky stuff. Without getting to ride any of these bikes before we buy, we have to try to pick the brains of guys like you who have ridden many different bikes as to which one dose these certain things the best. So I apologize for all the questions, but I feel you are an excellent discerner of these things, especially as you have ridden these very trails.
So, let me ask you this, if you were kinda sick one day, and had to pedal uphill a lot when you weren't feeling 100%, which one of these would you grab that day?

Not sure if you are still looking, but I had the Ripley AF and I own the Element C50. Both are very good bikes. I sold my AF as they were both too close in capability. The AF is more efficient with less pedal bob, but the Element is better in steeper, loose, and rocky terrain when climbing, as it has more traction. You do feel the weight of the AF when climbing. I think the AF goes downhill better. The Element is more balanced when jumping and in the air. Both are great bikes, I just sold my AF as I do prefer the Element. My AF was the NX/GX with a few upgrades. To me the 35mm wheels don't belong on the AF. Too much wheel for the bike. You do feel the long wheelbase of the Element but most of the time that is a good thing. When climbing steep terrain, the front wheel doesn't come off the ground as much on the Element and you don't have to scoot forward to the nose of the seat as much. So much traction on that Element., The AF does the downhills better overall. I am riding my Element in the neutral position 3. Haven't tried any of the other settings.

I respect RM rigs. Could never afford a FS rig from'em. Carbon has been around since 1983, and it keeps getting more expensive. Someone(the carbon manufacturer), is making a huge profit. And most carbon frames of brands,, are built at the very same facilities in China. And if China can sell these carbon frames for a few hundred dollars, then what is it with the over one-thousand dollar deals? Ya not saving much on weight nor comfort, getting carbon. If ya weigh over 200 pounds, you'll break the carbon. thank RM, for making the Growler 20. Affordable. And now less than the GT Zaskar LT. Problem is, everyone is out-of-stock. Gonna be the same as 2020 & 2021, with inventory.
