This discipline (show, don't tell) is one of those lessons that are *basic* for us artists that rely on story telling, but are so easy to dismiss somehow, and specially when one is the kind of artist that doesn't fully realize what they want to convey with the drawing fully, before puting pen to paper.
(I'm so pretentious calling myself an artist that relies on story telling even though I'm not a concept/fine/comic book artist, I just draw and want badly to create a comic but hold myself back because I'm *that* kind of perfectionist artist and just keep watching videos on writing and visual storytelling, character depth etc, but never have I drawn a single page of the comic 🤦‍♂️)

Sounds like you're a Storyteller at heart! I know what you mean about feeling like you hold yourself back. Brian says in one of his books: "You have to love this enough to be bad at it." Artists often forget that every craft takes time and focus and lots of failure. They don't realize that, as a culture, we wouldn't value professional Storytellers like we do if it wasn't hard to become one. As my friend Mike always says: "You can't steer a parked car."

@@ChrisOatley thank you for the encouragement, with how things are going and not being able to truly see a more stable timeto begin writing/drawing, I think I must start asap or I will not do it, and I gotta do it, so I will do my best effort and things done and not planned, again thank you for the advice and encouragement. ♡
      Sensei noticed! (^u^)

One show that has unbelievably good visual storytelling is Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Being a show that explores themes like isolation, personality disorders and connections between people, the audience can really feel the pain that characters like Shinji and Asuka experience throughout the show.
Not to mention the religious symbolism throughout and how that ties into the conflict between humanity and The Angels.

Hi, @Phillip! The course I mention in the episode is open 24/7 so, if that one appeals to you, just visit ChrisOatley.com/TellMyStory/ and you can enroll any time. If you have any tech issues, just email our support team (support@chrisoatley.com).
My Mentorships are only available a couple times a year because I teach those in “real-time.” I can only give my best to my students when I’m focused on one course at a time. But you can subscribe to our email list at ChrisOatley.com/subscribe/ if you would like to receive an announcement when the next one becomes available! Thanks so much!!!
