The Lab Los Angeles is Mixmag and Smirnoff Sound Collective's weekly post-work unwind where we stream only the finest American and international DJs, live and direct from our Downtown LA office.
London born and Los Angeles-based Mat Zo joins us as both the label head of his own Mad Zoo and a talented producer of his recently released 'Self Assemble' album. The March 2016 release is what he describes as a "cinematic assemblage of all the varied influences of his childhood" and serves as a follow-up to his Grammy-nominated 'Damage Control'.
This year, Mat Zo plans to continue the legacy of his 'Self Assemble' release with the Self Disassemble Tour, a series of shows that'll each be a showcase of different genres that he loves, including drum 'n' bass, house and classic progressive house and trance sets.
After releasing three singles to their anxious fanbase, The M Machine are now celebrating the recent release of their debut album 'Glare', released on Mad Zoo in late February. The San Francisco group first came into prominence with the release of 'Metropolis' in 2011, a two-part EP that released on Skrillex's OWSLA label. - เพลง

This set is downright hypnotizing. Mat Zo will have sets where he showcases his roots in trance and DnB on the Self Disassembled Tour, but this one really highlights his ability to play more intimate shows in clubs. I honestly can't fathom another producer/DJ that has more talent than Mat. He is a living legend and his music speaks to me and inspires me on a level that surpasses everyone else by far. If you happen to read this, Matango, do know that I love you and hope to meet you someday.

Funny story - I randomly met his mom at a show he played stateside yearsssss ago in Ann Arbor, MI. I think he and/or family lived around there at some point. Took a 10-second break to chug some water at a side-table and realized in the next seat over was undoubtedly not the average party-goer... and so I just randomly threw a guess out there. And it was worth it; because not only is he musically above & beyond (pun definitely intended) the talent of anyone else I can think of, right up with the Bassnectar's, etc. of the world... but just exchanging those few words, I got the sense he comes from a positive place and is a genuinely good guy too.

Yeah just noticed that, really throws you off if you have any sort of decent headset. Love the mix, but it's hard to listen for an extended period of time without compensating with my own audio settings (which shouldn't be necessary).
