something I especially miss from 90's anime, is that soft-glow effect they add to electronic lighting

ive been rewatching this anime and showing it to people since i first found it in middle school. It's just so uniquely weird. It feels like watching a dream.
I do love Bolk Crank as a character, and wish he was in a story that made sense (the manga doesn't make any sense either).

Fan of the manga and I have no problems with the '97 show. Since the source material is just as episodic as the anime it always felt that the show was just extra stories in the life of Bolt Crank. Sure, the anime alludes to Bolt's connection to the ever flying airship and what his origins are but part of the charm of the manga for me was that Bolt had multiple possible origins presented throughout the story but the audience was never given a clear answer until the end of the series. The only reason I prefer the manga over either of the anime adaptations is that I'm a big mech nerd and Akihito Yoshitomi does absolutely gorgeous, detailed, full spreads focusing on the tech when Bolt pulls out the ridiculously big weapons and I never got that from either show. (Also, he has a youtube channel where you can just watch him draw, cool stuff if you are into that)

I remember watching Eatman casually cause it was bad scheduled on the TV... and I didn't understand anything apart from "guy eats metal" and badass openings (chiisana koi no melody is god tier)

Irresponsible Captain Tylor is the show that desperately needed sequels, because it felt like the beginning of a greater thing.

I liked both the 1997 anime and the parts of the manga that got official English translations, and I think you summed up what makes the anime enjoyable pretty well. Part of what I liked about the anime was trying to figure out what the hell each episode was supposed to be about. I really like that dreamlike quality to it, and that's what has attracted me to Akihito Yoshitomi's work so far, after reading a scanlation of Lilly System. Well, that and the mechanical design.
Anyway, if anyone knows where I can find an actually good scanlation of the parts of the manga that are not officially translated, point me in it's direction.

i don't know what part is the official translation but i think is complete in comick

@@monioelniomo2837 I've seen that translation before, it's not good enough for me. Their decision to not translate words like Kawaii ruins the tone of it for me- it feels like a bunch of characters in it are weebs when they should not be.

The only reason why I like this anime is because Murata Toshiharu did the character designs. Aside from this he also worked on character designs for Hellsing 2001

I watched all of Eat Man. I’m sorry to say it was pretty boring for me. I thought it would be like Outlaw Star or Trigun or Cowboy Bebop.
As you can tell by my username, I’m a massive Gundam fan.

I get that. It's a show that I still don't understand why I like so much but it's definitely not for everyone
