I know this is not a topic, but I have to ask why I have disalighment between the two pulleys? I removed VW stock pulley from my 90mm generator and added a new Porsche three-part pulley (hub, inner and outter half of pulley). I thinked that is the same thing. Now the generator pulley is more forward than the crank pulley ... Do I have to change the lower pulley too? Are there more types of crank pulley? Please, somebody help! Thanks in advance.

I own an Industrial powder coating plant ,and also apply Cerakote ceramic coatings. For my car engine parts I prefer the ceramic coatings for a few reasons. The film build for powder is 3-5 mils on average. Ceramic coatings are less that 1 mil. Powder needs this to perform .It is very durable and depending on the type of powder can be very resistant to fuels, oil, etc. They have their applications, and are less expensive. Ceramic coatings off the same performance and more at a very low film build. Ceramic coatings are more thin that most paints. As am example on wheels, powder will not have the appearance that ceramic coatings offer. Powder also normally has an orange peel look, and ceramic coatings do not. .

I have a serpentine system (engine hasn't run since forever), and now that I've added an a/c compressor the belt slips when rotating the engine by hand. You just gave me a possible solution to that problem, I'll use my Dremel with a wire brush and remove as much of the powder coating in the grooves as possible. Thank you for the video.

I would have never imagined that this would be a problem.

Where can I get one of the "D" plates that ties into the rear bumper?

Isn't the torque on that nut 42 - 47 ft lbs? I think it's the same on the fan in the back. I had some bug guy torque my fan so hard it cut the metal. I had to get another fan and put it in myself.

Would an external oil cooler help? I ran a degree pulley on my bus and same problem belt was slipping and not cooling and oil cane out through flywheel seal

You can also ask your powder coater to "NOT" do the belt area but powder the rest of the pulley.

What are your thoughts on the serpentine systems and daily Drivers? I understand they may not be good for high rpms but I think as a daily driver it would be nice?

An easy way to remove powder coating is to drop the part in a bucket of brake fluid, and leave it over night. The next morning, anything left should come off with a bristle brush and a shot of brake cleaner.

Shouldn’t you use a torque wrench so it’s tightened to spec? The engineers spent the time and effort to determine torque specs for a reason. The stock vw engine really is pretty isn’t it?

We have known about it, but when you work on so many at one time, you sometimes miss certain things. These pulleys got lumped into a box going out with other parts to get powder coated. It was a good reminder to do a video on it when we installed it.
