Is it metre bridge or potentiometer?
Are both the same apparatus?

Meter bridge is not same as potentiometer. We did not use potentiometer. We used potentiometer wire. It is same as resistance wire. Meter bridge happens to have resistance wire in its setup.

In place of the 2V accumulator or 2 x 1.5v dry leclanché cell, can one use normal dry cell battery 1.5v?

I think yes, 2 x 1.5v

Yes you can use two 1.5 V dry Leclanché cell. Do note that the value of the e.m.f. does not determine the readings.
